- From Richard (Dick) MacKenzie March 2021:
On page 101 (of the MOEM book), where children of Ann McKenzie and John Mattocks/Mattox are discussed, I still believe that the Michael McKenzie Mattox who ultimately died in 1815 in Tattnall Co., GA was not the son, rather the grandson, of Ann and John, based on the discovery last year of the Probate record in Barnwell Dist. of SC, which shows that a Michael M. Mattocks/Mattox died in Nov 1802 in Barnwell, and that Ann Mattocks, Administrator of his estate, executed a Warrant of Appraisement on 6 Dec 1802, with copies to be given (sent?) to Richard Stanley, McKinsie Mattocks and John Mattox. I believe the “McKensie Mattocks” indicated is son Michael who soon thereafter moved to GA. I’ll try to get you a copy of the record.
Based on this scenario, I have changed the DOB in my tree for MMM I to 1737, which also is much more likely to be closer to the real year, since he was left land by his grandfather in 1758, and means he was 75 years old when he died – sounds reasonable. I changed the birth year of his mother to 1719 (although there is nothing to prove she wasn’t the first born of the children), and have made MMM II born in 1756, meaning he was ripe to be in the Rev. War. I know I took some liberties with dates, but I still think this is closer to truth.
