She died on 14 May 1909 at the age of 81 in Washington, D. C.. Bureau of the Evening Times, Frostburg, Md., May 17, 1909 Mrs. Jane Burton, aged 73, one of the oldest residents of this place, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mollie [sic, Julia] Gatewood, in Washington, D.C., on Friday morning. Mrs. Burton went to Washington about a week before the inauguration of President Taft, and has been making her home with the above named daughter since that time. She was taken ill on last Wednesday and continued getting weaker until her death. The remains were brought here on Saturday evening and taken to the home of her son, Jesse, at Borden Mines, from which place the funeral occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was made in Allegany cemetery, Rev. Geo. E. Maydwell, pastor of the First M.E. Church, officiating at the services. Mrs. Burton is survived by the following children: Mr. S.W. Burton [William Scott], of this place; Mr. Jesse Burton, of Borden Mines; Mr. Walter Burton, of Clarksburg, W. Va.; Mrs. Ann Russell, of Frostburg; Mrs. Mollie [sic, Julia] Gatewood, of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Fannie Merrill, of Meyersdale, Pa., and Mrs. Kate Ort, of Portsmouth, Ohio.
