9970 There are records in the Allegany County, Maryland Probate Office that pertain to John McKinsey, an old man. The inventory of his estate was signed by Daniel Mckenzie and Moses McKenzie. The authos/webmaster, Michael A. cKenzie suspects that the Daniel Mckenze listed is that of Daniel Mckenzie (b. abt. 1752) husband of Mary Chapman. The Moses McKenzie most likely is the RW Moses (b. abt. 1760). It has never been clear as to whom to tie this old man, John to. The following is an excerpt fro the McKenzies of Early Maryland outlinng the conundrum.

John McKenzie (b. unk)

Per the research of Bobbie McKenzie, a John McKenzie died circa 1792 in Allegany County, Maryland. Moses, Daniel and Gabriel signed a bond as administrators on March 12, 1792. The bond says John was very old and very poor. His inventory shows it. Adm Accounts Allegany County. The following entry appears on 22 March 1792 “John McKinsy, estate appraisers: Daniel McKenzie & Moses McKenzie, Wm Shaw, Evan Gwynne”. On 11 Oct 1796 John McKinsy estate. Moses McKensy, adm. Accounts paid to Robert Sinclair & I King, John Willuts, Daniel McKinsey, Evan Gwynne, Ezekial Whiteman . According to Bobbie, this “Moses” is most likely Moses RW (b. 1760), son of Moses (b. abt. 1720) of John. There are no other Generation 3 Moses old enough to have served in this capacity. Gabriel is probably the Uncle of John and Moses, and was the Gabriel (b. abt. 1715), son of John McKenzie (b. 1687). It is believed that Gabriel died in 1793, which explains why no further records exist showing his involvement in the handling of the estate. Daniel is probably cousin to John and Moses, son of their Uncle Gabriel, and the Daniel who was born abt. 1752, who married Mary Ann Chapman.
This John McKenzie (d. 1792) is probably one of the first born of Moses 1720. Taking into consideration the Scottish naming pattern, surely Moses would have had a son John. He is considered by the county recorder as being "old." If he were born 1740-45, he would be ca 50, a healthy life span in the 1790s. According to a 1790 study done in Philadelphia in 1790, life expectancy in 1790 for the US population was 34.5 years for males and 36.5 years for females. No information has been located indicating that he ever married or had children.

9971 There is a Jonathan Albert McKenzie listed in Western Maryland Catholics by Koch and Davidson at p. 148. He is the son of Jeremiah and Sarah McKinzie. Born 8 Mar 1843 and baptized 22 Oct 1843. I think this may be him. McKenzie, Jonathan O. (I14734)

9972 There is some question as to whether Albert Clifton McKenzie is actually a son of Leonard Owings McKenzie, despite being raised as such and someone indicating that paternity on his death certificate. In 1880, Albert Clifton was living with his mother Emma Graham, who was single, and the Graham family, while Leonard McKenzie was single and living with his family. They did not marry until Albert was at least 6 years old. Dick MacKenzie, October 4, 2012.

9977 There was an accidental shooting over at Ridgeley, W. Va., yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock, in which a girl was wounded in the lower limbs and another narrowly escaped being wounded. Frank Monnett, aged 14, son of Mr. Joseph Monnett, was handling a Marvin repeating shotgun. Several children were playing in the house of Mr. C. Moreland, track hand for the Western Maryland railroad, living on Carpenter road, opposite the round house. Sophie C. Moreland aged 10, and a younger girl of a neighbor's were in a back room, while the lad, Frank Monnett, and other children were in the room adjoining, a door communicating. The girls were standing near the door, rather to the side, in the back room. The Monnett boy picked up the shotgun that had been left standing in a corner of the front room, and approaching the door took a position at one side of the doorway on the front room side, and began fooling with the gun. In a moment there was a loud report mingled with the screams of the children, two of whom, Sophie Moreland and the neighbor's child, lay upon the floor. The younger child soon arose to her feet. but Sophie was found to have been shot. She was placed upon a couch and upon examination it was found she had been shot in both limbs above the knees. Dr. Twigg was sent for and upon his arrival it was found that the girl had received about forty No. 6 shot in one limb and about a dozen in the other, one of the limbs being badly lacerated. Dr. Twigg says the girl will recover, but should complications arise he will have the patient removed to the hospital. The other little girl did not receive any of the shot, but her clothing was burned at the neck by powder, so close had she been standing to the weapon when it went off. All that saved the Moreland girl from instant death was that the load first struck the arm of a large chair, shattering it into many pieces, deflecting the course of the shot and weakening their force. The boy who came very near causing the death of two persons says he did not know the gun was loaded. The Evening Times, Cumberland, August 19, 1907

He died on 15 Sep 1954 at the age of 61 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland.

Still under 21 years of age, the mother of two children today filed suit in Circuit Court for a divorce, asking for the custody of an infant daughter and stating she would agree to have her husband retain custody of their son, less than two years old. Mrs. Geraldine B. Nichol, represented by Edward J. Ryan, filed the action in the name of her father and next friend, Alvin Crowe, of Lonaconing, against William M. Nichol, a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad brakeman. She said they were married April 15, 1944, in Lonacoing, and charged him with cruelty.
