Born in Greenville Township, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lydia (Weimer) Wetmiller, and was the widow of Howard Counihan. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Surviving are three sons, James Counihan, West Salisbury; George Counihan, Bethel Park, and Thomas Counihan, here; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Dunlap, Euclid, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary Augenstein, Castle Shannon; a brother, Cyrus Wetmiller, Meacham, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Waldo, Lancaster, N.Y., and Mrs. Margaret Knecht, West Salisbury; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born July 9, 1938, in Meyersdale, she was a daughter of Margaret (Orner) Baer, of Salisbury; and the late Ralph Baer. Mrs. McKenzie was a member of the Greenville Lutheran Church and was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Bernard F. McKenzie; three sons, Gary F., Richard Lee and Barry Wayne McKenzie, all of Salisbury; three brothers, Carl Baer and Ralph Baer Jr., both of Frostburg, Md., and Robert Baer, Elkins, W.Va.; two sisters, Anna Mae Hochard, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Linda Arnold, Salisbury; and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Md., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Greenville Lutheran Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

SALISBURY, Pa. - Caroline C. “Carrie” McKenzie, 96, of Gay Street, Salisbury, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 1990, at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born Feb. 25, 1894, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Annie (Bowers) Merrbach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Angus McKenzie, June 14, 1950. Mrs. McKenzie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Surviving are one son, Wilbur McKenzie, Salisbury; two daughters, Leona Oester, Grantsville; and Lucille Werner, Salisbury; one brother, Theodore Merrbach, Grantsville; two sisters, Lydia Butler, Salisbury; and Amelia Valentine, Stoystown; 30 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Born Sept. 18, 1918, in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Edna (Layman) Minnick. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Chester Brant and Cobey McKenzie.
Mrs. McKenzie was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Grantsville, Md.

As a saved Christian, she was a member of Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and AWANA youth leader. Betty will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother to her husband, three daughters and her grandchildren. She was also employed as a beautician. Betty enjoyed being an artist and was honored by the sale of numerous pieces of her artwork. Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Paul J. Born Jan. 12, 1924, in West Salisbury, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Percy and Helen (McKenzie) Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Grant Milton Bowman, on March 3, 2008. Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker, a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Salisbury Firemen’s Auxiliary. Sally was born to Einer and Louise Berg
She attended Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart then transferred and graduated from Omaha Central High School before receiving her Bachelors Degree at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. In 1952 she was an Aksarben Debutant.
Sally and Jerry owned and operated Merry Meadow Farm Dog and Cat Boarding Kennel for over 35 years. Her devotion to caring for animals was unsurpassed. She was also a talented horsewoman who enjoyed endurance riding and won a Top 10 award at the 1981 U.S. National Arabian Championship Horse Show in the Mounted Native Costume Class on her horse El Rajah. She volunteered at St. Columbkille Church and School through the Art Reach Program, Fall Festival and as class parent. She also volunteered for Reruns for Fun and at the Stephen Center. In addition, Sally was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader. When she wasn't working or volunteering she enjoyed cruises with Jerry and her children - eventually traveling on 11 different ones around the world. Her most recent to the Baltic’s where she toured such European cities as St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

Sampson Gregory MCKENZIE and Barbara Christiana EBAUGH were married on 30 Oct 1884 in Meyersdale, Summit Township, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. The Daily Courier, Connellsville, on October 29, 1934, announcing the 50th anniversary of Sampson and Barbara:
The Samson J. MCKENZIE home on Olinger Street was the scene of a most pleasant and enjoyable event last Sunday when this well known and highly esteemed couple celebrated their golden anniversary. Upon this occasion their nine children, with their families, and other relatives and intimate and other relatives and intimate friends, enjoyed a bountiful feast at the MCKENZIE home, remaining throughout the afternoon and evening in the enjoyment of the fellowship of their honored parents and others who were present at the pleasant event. Also, during the afternoon and evening Mr. and Mrs. MCKENZIE held "open house" when hundreds of people from town and vicinity called upon the aged couple and felicitated them upon the celebration of their half-century of connubial bliss.
Samson MCKENZIE is the son of the late Ambrose and Lydia MCKENZIE of Greenville Township, and Mrs. MCKENZIE, prior to her marriage was Miss Barbara EBAUGH, a daughter of the late Rineholt and Victoria EBAUGH who resided on the western slope of the Allegheny Mountain in Summit Township.
They were united in marriage in the old Catholic Church edifice, a portion of which is still standing on the corner of Main and Cherry Streets, by the late Rev. D.J. GALLAGHER. Following the ceremony they located on what is known as the Gumbert farm in Greenville Township, continuing the farmer's calling until 31 years ago, when they located in Meyersdale, in the dwelling in which they now reside, which they purchased from the Meyersdale Planing Mill Company. For a number of years after locating in town, Mr. MCKENZIE followed the occupation of coal mining. Later he entered the employ of his son, Thomas A. MCKENZIE and has since been assisting him in the conduct of his grocery store.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. MCKENZIE and all were present at the celebration on Sunday, as follows: Mrs. Mollie SHAFFER, formerly of Mt. Savage, Md., but a resident of Meyersdale since the death of her husband several years ago; Thomas A. MCKENZIE, Simon P. MCKENZIE, John MCKENZIE of Meyersdale; Robert MCKENZIE, all of Meyersdale; Catherine, who is Mrs. Clarence GIPE of Chicago; Mrs. Andrew Gates of Altoona; Leo MCKENZIE of Meadville; and Edward MCKENZIE of Somerset. There were also eleven grandchildren, all of whom were present with their parents. James MCKENZIE, of Greenville Twp, a brother of Samson MCKENZIE, who served as best man at the Wedding; Mrs. Edward LORADITCH of Pocahontas, a sister; Simon EBAUGH of Boswell; Joseph EBAUGH and Miss Agnes EBAUGH of Meyersdale, brother and sister of Mrs. MCKENZIE were also present to help the grand old couple celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. br>Mr. and Mrs. MCKENZIE, during there long residence in Meyersdale have endeared themselves in their neighbors, their friends being legion. They have ever proven themselves kind and indulgent parents, helpful neighbors, the best and most loyal of citizens and they are most highly esteemed by those who know them best. It is the wish of all that they may be spared to celebrate the next major anniversary in their wedded lives.
Samson G. McKenzie, 91, died August 4, at 11:45 a.m. at his home in the Shipley Apartments where he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Rose Gates. He had been ill for about four years. Previously for many years he had lived in his home at 338 Olinger street. In his active years he was a teamster. He was born in Greenville township Nov. 7, 1858, the son of Ambrose and Lydia (Long) McKenzie, both of whom were born in Frostburg, Md. October 30, 1884, he married Barbara Ebaugh, who preceded him in death a number of years ago. He is survived by these children: Mrs. Mollie Shaffer, Somerset; Thomas A. and Simon, Meyersdale; Catherine, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Rose Gates, Meyersdale; Leo, Meadville; John, Meyersdale; Edward, Somerset; and Robert, Cumberland, Md.; also by 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a member of SS Philip and James Catholic Church where requiem mass was conducted for him by Father Raymond W. Cuples at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Samuel Albert McKenzie, 49, of 13 Oak Street, died this morning in Sacred Heart Hospital. A native of Cresaptown, he was a son of Mrs. Alice (Robinson Clayton) of Cresaptown, and the late Albert McKenzie. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was employed at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nellie Ruth (Deneen) McKenzie; two sons, William G. McKenzie, of Chillum, Md., and Freddie McKenzie, at home; three daughters, Alice McKenzie, Martinsburg; Judy and Janet McKenzie, both at home; three brothers, Thomas E., William G., and Clarence M. In about 1872 he settled in Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania.

He was a logger, part-time carpenter, grading contractor, and real estate investor. He was also a volunteer fireman, an Odd Fellow, a Republican county committeeman and a city councilman for a short time. He worked for a timber company and later owned the Westside Grocery on North Rogers Street, Olympia, Washington. They owned what is now known as "The Lybarger House", built in 1887 and located at 1056 Boundary St. SE, Olympia, Washington. This is also the reason for Lybarger Street in Olympia, Washington.

Samuel Clark died at his residence at Pocahontas, on Sunday, December 18, 1927, after an illness of four months, of a complication of diseases. He was aged 80 years, 3 months and 28 days. In 1872 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Lyberger, daughter of Joseph and Susan Lyberger, who survives him. If he had lived until March, they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John McKenzie of near Pocahontas, and Mrs. Harry Yaist of Youngstown, Ohio; and three sons, Joseph Clark, of near Pocahontas; Daniel, Finzel, Md., and Peter, of Corriganville, Md. One daughter preceded him to the grave about ten years ago. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in the Hostetler Church of the Brethren on December 21st, of which church Mr. Clark was a life-long member. Rev. T. Rodney Coffman was the minister in charge. Samuel Durbin was married to Ann, daughter of William Logsdon and Honor O'Flynn, at Saint Thomas Church at Owings Mills, Maryland, July 4, 1734. This marriage is also recorded at St. Paul Catholic Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Samuel Durbin is the patriarch of most, if not all, of the Durbins of Kentucky. Some researchers list Samuel as a son of William Durbin son of Thomas Durbin.Samuel's will, dated September 19, 1752, named none of his children. It is assumed that he died soon after the September date. Ann's will dated July 8, 1770, was probated in Frederick County, Maryland, and named all thirteen of her children. Of these thirteen children, at least four were pioneer settlers of Kentucky. John came in between 1775 and 1780; Thomas, Christopher, and Edward came in circa 1788. John Durbin, according to James Virden, was the first Durbin in Kentucky, arriving with Daniel Boone in 1775, and was one of the axmen who blazed the Wilderness Trail. Samuel Durbin, born about 1700 in colonial Maryland, is believed to be the son of Thomas and Mary Downes Durbin. It is recorded that Samuel Durbin married Ann Logsdon on 4th of July 1723 in St. Pauls Church, Baltimore, MD. Ann Logsdon was the daughter of William Logsdon and Honor O'Flynn. The children of Samuel and Ann are as follows: William, Samuel Jr., Thomas, John, Christopher, Edward, Nicholas, Benjamin, Sarah, Ann, Margaret, Mary and Honor. The last 2 girls may have been twins.
Samuel was involved in the Methodist Church of America. There are roadside signs pointing to a wonderful old home built in 1767, still standing in good condition where Samuel and Ann lived. It is likely that Samuel built the home and the nearby original log cabin where their son Christopher was born. The Durbins became interested in Methodism and the first American ordained bishop, Francis Asbury often preached in their home as well as another famous preacher, Robert Strawbridge, recognized by many as the first Methodist preacher in America. He was a near neighbor and friend. The Durbins were active in establishing Methodism in this country and belonged to the First Society of Methodism. bSam's History
/bThe family account of the Durbin family began with Samuel Durbin who came to Frederick County, Maryland at its early settlement. It was thought that Samuel came from Bristow, England. It was also expressed that the durbin homland was Ireland.
Samuel Durbin was married to Ann Logsdon of Frederick County, Maryland, 4 July 1723 at St. Pauls Parish, in Baltimore County, Maryland. Ann was the daughter of William Logsdon, an emigrant to Maryland in 1673 and Honor O'Flynn. Honor O'Flynn was mentioned in old records as an Irish girl of great piety, and it was through her that the Catholic element appeared in the Durbin line. The family lore handed down through the generations was of a beautiful Irish girl named Honor O'Flynn who was kidnapped from Ireland and brought to this country, and who was married to a Logsdon. These quotes were taken from some Catholic records pertaining to one Father Elisha Durbin, son of John D. Durbin and Patience Logsdon. This information was submitted to Mrs. Ernest F. Schuchert of Chester, Illinois from Mr. Howard steiner of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Some of the descendants of Durbins of this line became very staunch Catholics. However, Mr. steiner said that the wonderful home which Samuel Durbin and his sons built in 1767 was still standing in good condition, that the homestead had been made a shrine by the Methodist Church of America. There were roadside signs pointing to its location about two miles out from Westminster, Maryland. The Durbins became interested in Methodism, and the first American ordained bishop Francis Asbury often visited with the Durbins during three generations of that family. Carroll County was once a part of Baltimore County in Maryland. This information was submitted to Mrs. Ernest F. Schuchert of Chester, Illionois from Mr. Howard Steiner of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
From the New Winsor District in Carroll County, Maryland came a note that not far from Pipe Creek lived William Durbin who with his wife joined the Methodist in 1768. Their son, John Durbin, was a traveling preacher.

In the name of God Amen. The nineteenth day of September one thousand seven hundred and fifty-two I, Samuel Durbin of Frederick County in the Province of Maryland Planter being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be giving unto God. And calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament, that is to say principally. And first of all, I commend my soul into the Hands of God that gave it me: and as for my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner as it shall please my Executrix hereafter named.
Imprimis: I give to my well beloved son William Durbin an hundred acres of land, being part of a tract of land called Cobbs Choice in lieu of a tract of Land called the Pleasants Green of the said William Durbin to take the said Land at lower end and not to take any of the improvements of my dwelling plantation as I now live upon.
Item: And likewise I give to my well beloved Daughter Ann Durbin one cow and calf.

Samuel Edward "Sam" Lease, 84, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., passed away on Sept. 10, 2019, at home, surrounded by his family. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born Jan. 25, 1935, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late Samuel Louis Lease and Anna Mary (McKenzie) Lease. He was also preceded in death by his infant sister, Jeannie; his brother, James Lease and wife, Lois; sisters, Marie Lease and Eva Jean Goldsworthy and husband, Bill; and a nephew, Eric Shaffer. He was a graduate of Allegany High School. Sam proudly served in the U.S. Army and Reserves from 1955 to 1963. He worked at Gehauf's Restaurant, Howard Johnson's Restaurant, and then Cumberland Steel Company from 1968 to 1987. Sam was an avid cook, preparing countless dinners at the Short Gap Fire Hall, where he was fondly known as "Spaghetti Sam."
He never met a stranger and was always a generous host.
You wouldn't leave his home hungry or thirsty. He loved to pass the time playing cards and watching the Steelers-win or lose. The Western Channel was his favorite. Sam raised game chickens since he was 10 years old and had belonged to the Virginia Game Fowl Breeders Association. He enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife from his back porch during his failing health. He loved worshipping at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Short Gap Volunteer Fire Department. Sam is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Linda Lou (Shaffer) Lease; dedicated son, Timothy J. Lease and wife, Sandi, Hyndman, Pa.; granddaughter, Logan Lease and fiancée, James, Hyndman; and grandson, Cody Lease and fiancée, Hazel, Cresaptown. He was extremely proud of his great-grandchildren, Owen and Liam, with two more "dumplins" on the way; brothers-in-law, Michael Shaffer and wife, Judy, and Mark Shaffer and wife, Rhonda; nieces, Jessica Pencil and Robin Lashley; nephews, Andy, Scott and Brian Lease; numerous cousins and wonderful friends. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Knowlton officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded at the church by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

SAMUEL EDWARD MCKENZIE, 54, Meyersdale RD 3, died Sunday Nov. 25, in the Miners Hospital, Frostburg MD. He was born Jan. 10, 1897, the son of John and Amanda (Clark) McKenzie, deceased. He is survived by his wife, Irene Freeburg McKenzie and two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Foy and Mrs. Elnora Steinley, Meyersdale. He was a member of the White Oak Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Order of Owls. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm in the Konhaus Funeral Home. Interment in White Oak Cemetery. He served in the military. Samuel entered the service on 30 Aug 1918 at Rockwood, Pennsylvania in the 55th Guard Co., as a Private 1st Class. SAMUEL MCKENZIE
Logger, hunter and trapper, Samuel Emmet McKenzie passed away on Feb. 19 at G.R. Baker Hospital in
Quesnel. A resident of Schemanauer Road, funeral services were held Feb. 22 at Quesnel Municipal Cemetery.
Born June 26, 1919 in Edson, Alta., Mr. McKenzie lived on a farm and attended school in Alberta before moving to Kelowna with his parents in 1936. In 1939 he homesteaded near Ahbu Creek for several years. He hunted, trapped and logged in the area. Mr. McKenzie married Olga Chase on Jan. 1944 in Quesnel. He is survived by two sons, Allen (Sharon) McKenzie of Quesnel; Robin (Jeannie) of Kelowna; one daughter, Jenny-Lee Scott (Elmer Bosley) of Cherryville, B.C.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob of Kelowna; two sisters, Agnes Robbins of Vancouver and Marjorie Jenkins of Grassland, Alta.; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McKenzie was predeceased by brothers Frank, Lawrence, Earl, James and sister, Verna.

Samuel F. Dishong Jr., 64, of Corriganville, Md., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 1985, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. He was manager of automotive testing at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory and was a former general manager for Potomac Motor Sales, now Gateway Motors, Winchester Road. Born in Boynton, Mr. Dishong was a son of Samuel F. Dishong Sr., Hyndman, and the late Marie (Duckworth) Dishong. He was a member of the American Society for Testing Materials and the Society of Automotive Engineers, and was a member and former secretary of the Proving Ground Safety Committee. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a former member of the Corriganville Volunteer Fire Department. His wife, the former Marguerite Crump, died in 1981. Surviving besides his father are one daughter, Mrs. Sandra Robertson, Leadville, Colo., and a brother, William D. Dishong, Corriganville, Md. Unfortunately there is not a marriage license for Samuel Levi’s March, 1923 marriage to J. Cora Bussard, which would show if he was a widower. No official documents for Samuel Levi show a wife Mary!
Death of Mrs. McKenzie
Mollie, the wife of Samuel L. McKenzie, died at her home in Sulphur Hollow yesterday morning at 6 o’clock after a lingering illness of several months. A sad feature was the burial of their infant son, Paul, on Thursday the 4th inst., which is thought to have hastened her death. Her age was 25 years. At 627 Henderson Avenue there is a man, who has just started living—at the age of 81. At least, Samuel L. McKenzie, the man in question, thought that his life and his world had ended up until a few months ago. Until then, he had been almost totally blind. He and his wife, both of whom had lived active lives, were almost despondent. Once a horticulturist, McKenzie loved flowers, fruits and vegetables. He worked as a gardener for local residents, and sometimes walked miles in the woods searching for bittersweet, to sell as a side-line. Years earlier, he had been a motorman on street cars when they ran in Cumberland. Action, beauty and constructive effort were part of his life. But he was reduced to stumbling helplessness by cataracts on both eyes, and could scarcely even feed himself. He couldn't take care of his own garden—his peonies, roses, and his little vegetable plot. And Mrs. McKenzie was ever at his side to aid him in his misfortune. Their story could be long, but much of it can be summed up by a statement made by Mrs. McKenzie yesterday: "If we can spare anything at all, we certainly will contribute to the Community Chest Campaign." Cooperating with the Health Department and the Allegany County Welfare Board, the Community Chest assisted in getting McKenzie to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore last spring for operations on both eyes. Someone had to go along to take care of the patient on the trip, since he could only distinguish between light and darkness. Mrs. McKenzie was permitted to go as his guide—and she is proud she took care of all the paper work at the hospital that went with getting her husband situated. But she hurried right back home —there were things to be done. And in the hospital, McKenzie, with his eyes on the mend, became so eager that he told his nurse: "Everything's fine, but I won't get home in time to see my roses and peonies." When he woke up the next morning, the nurse had provided a mammoth bouquet of roses. "You don't know how I felt when I saw them," he said. "Really, for a moment, I thought I was home." Funeral of Mrs. McKenzie
Mollie, the wife of Samuel L. McKenzie, whose death was noted yesterday, was buried this morning at 8 o’clock from St. Patrick’s church, where a low mass of requiem was said by the Rev. Father Gallagher. His reverence spoke very highly of the deceased as a devoted member of the church of which she was a convert, having as he said, baptized and instructed her for Holy Communion, blessed her marriage, had been her confessor, and finally had administered to her the last rites of the church, he knew whereof he spoke. Samuel L. McKenzie, 87, of 527 Henderson Avenue , died shortly after being admitted yesterday afternoon to Sacred Heart Hospital. Mr. McKenzie was taken to the hospital after collapsing near his home. A native of Cumberland, he was a son of the late John W. and Elizabeth (Atkins) McKenzie. He was a retired employe of the Potomac Edison Company and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cora K. McKenzie; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Anna M. Nixon, this city, and a brother, Milnor McKenzie, LaVale. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The body will remain at the Kight Funeral Home. Samuel Neat, 73, of 504 Ridgewood Avenue, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital where he was admitted Thursday. He was a retired foreman for the B&O Back Shop here, and had been a resident of Cumberland for 58 years. Mr. Neat was a native of Barton, a son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Rees) Neat. He was a member of B & 0 Machinist Lodge 212, Grace Methodist Church, Aerie 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna L. {Layman) Neat, and two sisters, Miss Mollie Neat and Mrs. Harriett Douglas, both of this city. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 7 to 9 p. m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p. m. at the funeral home by Rev. Robert Nimon, pastor of Grace Church, and interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Samuel Patton came to Augusta, Virginia, as early as 1747, later moving to North Carolina where he owned land in Cabarrus County in 1756. He is shown, in 1749, on a petition to build a road to market and court. He was granted 120 acres of land 3 Nov 1753, on a branch of Buffalo Creek, a tributary of the James River.
He is shown deliquent in taxes in 1753-1754 and the record states that he is out of the county. Two years later, he was given two grants of land in Cabarrus County, North Carolina and settled there until the time of his death.
*His will was proved 21 Oct 1799 by the oaths of John Wilson, James Smith and Elizabeth Tassey*
Samuel Patton was a member of the Provincial Congress of North Carolina 25 Aug 1774 and also a member of the Continental Congress.
He was granted a pension for services in the Revolutionary War when he was 79 years old.

Samuel W. Poorbaugh, 82, Glencoe Road, Fairhope, went to be with the Lord Nov. 14, 2010, at Western Maryland Health System, Cumberland, Md. Born Aug. 7, 1928, in Northampton Township, son of Samuel J. and Elsie Jane (Leister) Poorbaugh. Preceded in death by parents and sisters, Betty Snow and Susan Carol. Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Anna Darlene Warne; children: Pamela Ann, married to Keith Hetrick, Fort Hill; David Wayne, married to the former Charlene Reed, Fairhope; and Patricia Lynn, married to Jon Marteney, Meyersdale; and grandchildren: James L. Leister and wife Brittany, Kayla Ann Hetrick, Samantha Jane and Mary Catherine Poorbaugh, Justin Michael, Melissa Hope and Kristin Noelle Paul. Brother of Mary Alice, married to Elwood Garlitz, Berlin; Jane Austin, Herndon, Va.; Dorothy Rhone, York; Bonnie Jean Mulvihill of Ligonier; Ray Poorbaugh and wife Wilda, Fredericksburg, Va.; and Richard Poorbaugh and wife Nancy, Port Matilda. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A 1946 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and graduate of DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago, Ill. Former testing engineer in Research Firms for the military and space industries, retired dairy and beef farmer and former secretary-treasurer for Northampton Township for many years. Member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset, served on the board of Somerset County Chapter of the Pa. Farmers Association, former board member for the Farmers Home Administration and he was a credentialed cooperative director on the Somerset Rural Electric Board. Sandra Jean Crowe, eight weeks old daughter of Milton and Dorothy Crowe, of Christie Road, died early this morning at Allegany Hospital, where she was admitted yesterday afternoon. The father is with the AEF in England. Besides the parent's, both maternal and paternal grandparents survive. They are, respectively, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Knippenberg, Christie road, and Mr. and Mrs. Gurney Crowe, 108 Clayborne street, where the body was taken. Funeral services will be tomorrow afternoon. Sandra Josephine Clark, 73, of Latrobe St., Barton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born Oct. 14, 1943, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Ryan) McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James McKenzie; and a sister, Rosaline McKenzie. Mrs. Clark was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education, having been a cafeteria employee. She was a former member of the Barton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was Catholic by faith. She leaves behind her husband, Jerome Clark; two sons, Jefferson Clark and wife, Beth, and Justin Clark; two daughters, Maria Stump and husband, Jeff, and Jamie Dunn and husband, Brian. She is also survived by several grandchildren. At Sandra's request, her body was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Monday, Sept. 25th at 11 a.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Friends and family will be received at the Boal Chapel on Monday one hour prior to service from 10 to 11 a.m. Sandy loved her pets, so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society or the charity of the donor's choice. Sandra Kay Self Matney, 41, of Bay City, passed away November 21, 1994, at Methodist Hospital in Houston. She was born November 9, 1953, in Center, Texas, to Daniel L. and Mildred Lorene Self. She had been a resident of Bay City for six months and was formerly of the Angleton and Freeport areas. She was a member of the Church of Christ. FROSTBURG — Sandra Garlitz, 64, of Frostburg, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at the Braddock Hospital. Born May 10, 1944, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late George C. Pryor and Marjorie (McCormick) Pryor. Sandy was also preceded in death by her husband, Dale Garlitz on April 30, 2009; and one brother, Joseph Lee Pryor. Mrs. Garlitz was a retired cook with the WMHS Dietary Department, and she was formerly employed with the Princess Restaurant, Frostburg, and the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, where she worked for 20 years. Sandy was a life-member of Saint Michael Church, Frostburg, and a member of the Farrady Post 24 American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by one daughter, Dalene Garlitz, Beall School Road; one sister, Georgiana Muir and husband George, Falling Waters, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Margaret Kenney and husband Mike, Frostburg; and several nieces and nephews. Sandy’s body was cremated. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Deacon Fred Passauer officiating. Sanford B. Robinette, 86, of Cresaptown, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital where he was a patient three weeks. He had been in ill health a year. A native of Centerville, Pa., he was a son of the late Henry C. and Minerva (O'Neil) Robinette. He retired from the Celanese Corporation of America 19 years ago after 29 years service. Surviving are his wife, Lena H. (Grant) Robinette; three daughters, Mrs. Jesse Bane, Kirby, W. Va.; Mrs. Gordon Hershberger and Mrs. Ada Cecil, Cresaptown; one son, Cecil E. Robinette, Lovettsville, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Harry Carroll, city; one brother, Hayes E.Robinette, Cresaptown; 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The body is at the John J.
