. ECKHART — Mrs. Fannie Stewart, 80, of Eckhart, died yesterday morning in Miners Hospital where she had been a patient since March 24. Born in Eckhart, she was a daughter of the late James and Harriet (Porter) Carter, and widow of Rance P. Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Eckhart Methodist Church. Surviving are a brother, J. William Carter, Clarksburg, W. Va., a nephew and five nieces. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home tomorrow at 2 p. m. with the Rev. William Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery.

. FROSTBURG - Marshall A. Crosten, 56, a taxicab driver, was dead on arrival yesterday at Miners Hospital where he was taken after becoming ill at work. A native of Hoffman, he was a son of the late James E. and Carrie (Murphy) Crosten. Survivors include his widow, May (Layman) Crosten; a son, James 0. Crosten, Frostburg; four daughters, Mrs. Wilbert Stevenson and Mrs. Lawrence Bendle, both of here; Mrs. David Yates, Clarysville, and Miss Betty Crosten, at home; a brother, Hugh Crosten, Hoffman; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Uhl and Mrs. Ethel Orndorff, both of Mt. Savage, and seven grandchildren. . FROSTBURG — George C. Pryor, 51, Eckhart, died yesterday at University Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va., where he had been a patient several weeks. Mr. Pryor was born in Eckhart, a son of Florence Himmelwright and the late Joseph Pryor. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, president of the Frostburg Republican Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, a member of the Lonaconing Republican Club, Haystack Rod and Gun Sportsmen's Club, and an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an employe of the Amcelle Fibers Plant, Celanese Corporation. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his widow, Marjorie (McCormick) Pryor; one son, Joseph L. Pryor, with the Army at Abilene, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. George Muir, Corriganville, and Miss Sandra Pryor, at home; five brothers, Clinton, Glenn and Donald Pryor, all of Eckhart; Clarence Pryor, Frostburg, and Earl Pryor, La Vale; two sisters, Mrs. Bernard Clayton, Baltimore, and Miss Regina Pryor, Eckhart, and five grandchildren. FROSTBURG — Miss Louise Plummer, 51 Wright Street, has received word of the death of her uncle, John Wagner, 62, who died yesterday at his home, 1361 Prospect Street, Barberton, Ohio, after a brief illness. The Wagner family left here about 25 years ago and moved to Barberton where he worked for the Barberton Chemical Company. A son of the late George and Louisa Wagner, Grahamtown, he was active in union affairs and held membership in Mountain City Lodge No. 11, Jr. O.U.A.M., Frostburg. His brother, Albert Wagner, was visiting in Barberton and an only sister, Mrs. Anna Plummer, was called there Saturday when his condition became critical. Both reside in Grahamtown. Also surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ada (Nelson) Wagner, formerly of Eckhart Mines, two sons; Marvin Wagner, Indiana, and John Wagner, Jr., three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Coler, Mrs. Marian Shmee and Mrs. Helen Ferdinand, all of Barberton, and 14 grandchildren. . FROSTBURG — Rhoda Mae Folk, 91, a patient at Western Maryland Health System and Rehab Center, Frostburg, died July 15, 2010, at Western Maryland Health System, Cumberland. Born in Frostburg Nov. 1, 1919, she was a daughter of the late George Edward Skidmore and Martha (Williams) Skidmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Raymond Folk; and brother, Harry; and sisters, Mary, Sara, Margaret, Catherine and Dorothy. Rhoda was a member of Welsh Baptist Church, Frostburg, and former employee of Stoops Restaurant and American Legion of Frostburg. Surviving are two sons, Ronald Dale Folk and wife Irene, Midland, and John Lee Folk and wife Mary, North Carolina; grandchildren, Deanna, Ronald Dale Jr. and Trish; and great-grandchildren, Chris, Katie and Devann; and one sister, Gladys McKenzie, patient at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Midland, on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home by the Rev. He was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Bruner) Porter and is survived by his widow, Sarah (Lewis) Porter. He was chief liquor inspector for the Allegany Liquor Control Board and was a member of the Young Men's Republican Club. She was a retired employe of Celanese Fibers Company and a member of the Assembly of God Church, Cumberland. Surviving are her husband, Merl DeVore. She was preceded in death by three sons. . LAVALE — Roger Lee Winebrenner Sr., 65, of LaVale, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. Born July 28, 1947, in Cumberland, Mr. Winebrenner was the son of the late William Joseph Winebrenner and Elnora (Winebrenner) Winebrenner. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Winebrenner; and a sister. Arvada Winebrenner. Roger was a well driller for 29 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Roger was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed by many who knew and loved him. Roger loved and thought the world of his son, daughter, and granddaughters. Roger is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda (Britt) Winebrenner; his son, Roger L. Winebrenner Jr. and wife, Renee and his daughter, Krista (Winebrenner) Kennell and husband, James, all of LaVale. He also leaves behind his granddaughters, Tracey Kennell, Katilyn Kennell, and Emily Winebrenner, all of LaVale; his brothers, David Winebrenner and wife, Nancy, Eckhart, Clarence Winebrenner, Sykesville; his sisters, Wanda Whitehead, Midlothian, Kathleen Gomer and husband, Leroy, Frostburg, Patricia Winebrenner, Chambersburg, PA; Mary Ryan and husband, Raymond, LaVale; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. LOUISA, Va. — Mrs. Beatrice Pauline (Hare) Bloss, 89, of Louisa, and formerly of Arnold, and Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2016, from complications following strokes on May 11, 2015, and Feb. 22, 2016. Bea was born on Sept. 3, 1926, in Orleans Cross Roads, W.Va., along the scenic Paw Paw Bends of the Potomac River. The daughter of the late Alonza Maine and Lottie Marie (Robertson) Hare, she was the last of her family, being preceded in death by sisters, Idella Hare, Dolly Lunnen, Kathleen Dieter and Violet Swisher; and brother, James Alonza Hare. Bea was a lifelong and devoted Methodist, and most recently celebrated her faith at the UMC in Mineral, where she attended Mothers Day services in 2015, the day before her first stroke. She was always active in the United Methodist Women. Bea attended Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, and worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Baltimore, during World War II and the Maryland Office of the Comptroller before she started her family. She married her beloved fiance, George William Bloss of Cumberland, on June 5, 1945, almost a month after VE Day. They first lived in Annapolis, where George obtained employment with the U.S. Naval Academy, and in 1947 they purchased a home in Arnold. Here, they raised their four children and lived for nearly 66 years before moving to Mineral, Va., in 2013. Bea was also an active member and Worthy Grand Matron of Chapter No. 46 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Annapolis. Bea became involved with volunteering to help the Grace Mission to Haiti, for which she helped to translate portions of the New Testament, and which she visited in 1980. Bea is survived by her beloved husband, George William Bloss, to whom she was married for more than 70 years; two daughters, Jean Weld and husband, Robert Cowan, of Hopkinton, N.H., and Linda Odell and husband, Jim Odell, of Manteca, Calif.; and two sons, Gary Bloss and wife, Francene Bloss, of Mineral, and Steven Bloss and wife, Cheri Bloss, of Midlothian, Va.;l along with five grandchildren, Derek Odell, Randy Weld, Mark Bloss, K.C. Odell, Shannon Briscoe and Gary Bloss Jr.; as well as, four great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gale Lee Bloss, born Aug. 20, 1953, died Aug. 22, 1953. A funeral service was held at the Woodward Funeral Home in Louisa, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, and a burial service and interment occurred the following day at the Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge. . Mrs. Mary Crowe, 69 years old, wife of Silas Crowe, died last night at Miners Hospital. She had been ill several years. A native of Garrett county, Mrs. Crowe, during the past fifteen years, lived at Eckhart, where her husband was employed by the Consolidation Coal Company. Besides her husband, she is survived by several children: George Crowe, of Barton; William, Walter, Elmer and Albert Crowe, all of Frostburg; John Crowe, of Ocean; and Miss Martha Crowe, of Baltimore. A sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Lane, of Lonaconing, and a brother, Liston Jackson, of Meyersdale, also survive. . Springfield, Oct. 7 (AP) — Two Maryland residents were killed and four other persons hurt, two probably fatally, in a head-on collision between two automobiles six miles east of here early today. The dead are Miss Emma Lewis, Cumberland, Md., R.F.D. 1, and Cobey Porter, Eckhart Mines, Md. The injured are Mr. and Mrs. C. Lear Twigg, both 37, of Cumberland; Edmond Lewis, 75, father of the dead girl and Mrs. Twigg, and Eugene C. Phillips, London, Ohio, insurance agent. The Maryland car, believed to have been driven by Twigg, met the Phillips car head on, on the National Highway at Harmony near here. The Maryland party was enroute home from the Century of Progress at Chicago. Souvenirs of the fair were strewn over the highway. Lewis and Phillips suffered fractured skulls, and physicians expressed doubt that either would recover. The Twiggs, although rendered unconscious, were not seriously hurt. All of the victims were brought to the City Hospital. Miss Lewis, who had been a saleswoman for the Cumberland Cloak and Suit Company for some years, resided in LaVale. She had been away all week but had worked at the store last Saturday. Mr. Porter paid her attention. He resided with his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Porter on the Thermestile farm near Eckhart, where he also operated a fuel mine. He was a son of the late Morrison Porter. Surviving, besides his mother, are four brothers, Marshall, residing on the farm, and Walter, Nathan and Russell, of Eckhart, and seven sisters, Mrs. John Kreitzburg, Clarysville; Mrs. Richard Watson, and Mrs. Lulu Snyder, Eckhart; Mrs. Richard Loar, La Vale; Mrs. David Stark and Mrs. Harry Craze, Frostburg; and Mrs. Frank Bloomer, Baltimore. This indenture made this 23rd day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine (1799) Ameriah Biggs of the county of Halifax and state of North Carolina of the one part and Robert Biggs of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Ameriah Biggs and in consideration of the sum of one hundred silver dollars to him in hand paid by the said Robert Biggs the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said Robert Biggs acquitted and forever discharged and the said Ameriah Biggs hath granted bargained sold aliened and confirming unto the said Robert Biggs and by these presents I give grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said Robert Biggs his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land containing in estimation forty (40) acres be the same more or less and is bounded as followeth:
Beginning at a pine in Thomas Drew's line on the South side of the Bee Tree branch thence a West course to Robert Biggs' corner line thence North along the said Biggs line to Samuel Hogan's line thence along the said Hogan line to a corner pine thence East along Benjamin Braswell's line to a white oak on the road thence along the road to the first station to have and to hold the aforesaid land unto him the said Robert Biggs his heirs and assigns forever together with all houses, orchards, fences, timber, warters together with all the appertenances thereunto belonging to the only proper use and act of the said Robert Biggs, his heirs, executors, administrators or assignes forever and the said Ameriah Biggs for himself his heirs executors administrators and assigns doth hereby convenant and agree to and with the said Robert Biggs his heirs and assigns that he will warrant and forever defend the title and property of the aforesaid land unto him the said Robert Biggs his heirs and assigns against the properties claims and demands of all manner of person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming the same.

As by the plat herewith annexed doth appear together with all the goods waters miners minerals hereditaments and appertinances he the said belongings or appertainings to hold He the said ROBERT Biggs HIS HEIRS and assigns forever. Yielding and paying to us such sums of money on yearly or other wise as our general assembly by from time to time may finish provided always that the said ROBERT Biggs shall cause this Grant to be Registered in the Registers Office of our County of Greene within twelve months from the date hereof otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect.

Know ye that we, for and in Consideration of the sum for every hundred acres hereby granted paid into our treasury,

Here given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Robert Biggs a tract of land containing two hundred acres lying and being in our county of Green on the waters of long creek, the waters of Nolachucky River and the home of Lewis McClaughin now lives on marked and bounded as follows, Beginning on a hickory running then south one hundred and fifty poles to a live oak come thence from there west two hundred and twenty poles to a hickory thence north one hundred fifty poles to a stake thence east two hundred and twenty poles to the Beginning as by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear together with all woods, waters, minerals hereditaments and appurtenances to the said land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Robert Biggs, his heirs and assigns forever yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our general assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the said Robert Biggs shall cause this grant to be registered in the register's office of our said county of Green within the time limited by law otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect.

Fraley said tonight that William Durst, 65-year-old farmer of the Dry Run section will be charged with murder in the shotgun slaying of his 33-year-old stepson, Paul Otto Filsinger, of Hutton. Filsinger was fatally wounded by Durst Saturday night as he entered the Durst yard in defiance of orders to stay out. The two men had been on bad terms about two years, Fraley said he was told. The victim's wife and mother were witnesses to the shooting. Fraley said that Durst, now held without bail in the county jail here, will be given a preliminary hearing later this week. Born Feb. 26, 1944, in New Orleans, La., she was the daughter of the late Antoinette (Oubre) and Herbert Martinez Sr. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Martinez and Herbert Martinez Jr. Survivors include Roger L. Smeak, her loving husband of nearly 35 years, whom she married on Sept. 15, 1969; sons, Gary Martinez, Somerset, and James Martinez, Bradford; daughters, Becky Gordon-Giron, Williamsburg, Va., Veronica Smeak and Heidi Leydig and husband Shawn, all of Meyersdale, and Theresa Smeak, Boswell; grandchildren, Shawn and Allysha Martinez, Jimmy and Kandis Gordon-Giron, Ashley and James Baer, and Lance Leydig; brothers, Michael Martinez and wife Fay, Lebanon, Tenn., and Russell Blank and wife Louise, Moundville, Ala.; sisters, Peggy Lawhorn and husband Donald, Placquemine, La., and Lydia Hinyub and husband Greg, Gretna, La.; and sister-in-law, Cathy Martinez. Mrs. Smeak was a former cook for restaurants in Meyersdale and Somerset. She was a member of the New Hope United Church of Christ, Meyersdale. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lamar Bender officiating. Interment will be in the Madley Cemetery, Buffalo Mills.
