    CUMBERLAND — Dr. Daniel P. McKenzie Jr., 88, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at UPMC-Western Maryland Sunday, May 30, 2021. Daniel was born Dec. 17, 1932, to Daniel Patrick McKenzie Sr. and Maude Mae (Hoffman) McKenzie in Cumberland at Memorial Hospital. He was a graduate of Allegany High School Class of 1951 where he played basketball, baseball and was football all-city. He enlisted in the Air Force and completed basic training at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas. His was the first Electronic Air Traffic Controller class to graduate from training in Biloxi, Miss. He served as an air traffic controller during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 in England, North Africa, Scotland and Lajes Field in the Azores. Daniel attended Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Ind., and returned to Cumberland to open his practice in 1960. His son, Dr. Kevin McKenzie, joined his practice in 1991 and carries on his chiropractic legacy today. Daniel retired in 2005. He enjoyed golfing, reading, building model airplanes, fishing, hunting, painting, gardening and was a fabulous cook. He had a heart for animals, especially his cat Pepper-Annie. He also enjoyed many years on the South Branch of the Potomac River known as the 'Koon Hole.' He enjoyed spending time at his hunting cabin with his sons, grandsons, and close family friends in Kennells Mills, Pa. Affectionately known as 'Doc', he belonged to Maplehurst Country Club, Kennells Mills Sportsmen's Club, Haystack Sportsmen's Club, American Legion, Cresaptown Eagles, and was a proud member of the NRA. He enjoyed many years playing cards at Geatz's with Phil Geatz and friends and loved spending time with his many friends in Kennells Mills. He will be greatly missed. Daniel was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Harry McKenzie; and his niece, Janeen McKenzie. He is survived by his love of 39 years, Davene Sheehe. He is also survived by Mary Ann Redmond, and his six children, Taune Witmer and husband, Jerri, Kevin McKenzie and wife, Sandy, Tara Linaburg and husband, Danny, Curran McKenzie and wife, Kimberly, Corey McKenzie and wife, Paula, and Carrie McKenzie. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Morgan Witmer and husband, Joey, Claire Witmer, Rachel Witmer, Kevin P. McKenzie, Lauren Bussard and husband, Brandon, Emily McKenzie, David Linaburg, Dana Linaburg, Corrine Wills and husband, Shane, Cody McKenzie and fiancée, Brittney, Payton McKenzie, Cameron McKenzie and wife, Karie; and many great-grandchildren. His children express heartfelt love and appreciation for Davene's love and devotion to our dad and for being a loving 'Nanny' to our children. Much love goes to his daughter and our sister, Taune, for the continuous love, support, grace and guidance she gave to our father and family throughout this journey. A special thank you goes to his son-in-law, pal and donut buddy, Danny Linaburg. Special thanks goes for care received from Dr. Shakil and UPMC. A sincere thank you also goes to Veterans Administration for going above and beyond meeting his every need. Another special thank you and appreciation go to Cumberland Paramedics for their professional and caring service which was rendered multiple times. The family expresses their gratitude toward UPMC Chaplain Father Eric for his prayers and blessing. Visitation will be held at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, Tuesday, June 8, 2021, and Wednesday June 9, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 1 p.m. with an hour visitation prior. Pastor Bernadette Ross will be officiating. Internment will be in Sunset Memorial Park following the service. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Davis, Paul Yockus, Larry Moon, Larry Reams, Cody McKenzie, Cameron McKenzie, David Linaburg, Kevin P. McKenzie, Troy Shroyer, Royce Shroyer, Danny Linaburg and Jerri Witmer.     Daniel P. (Mac) McKenzie Sr., 68, of 103 Park Avenue, LaVale, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient two weeks. Born in this city, Mr. McKenzie was a son of the late Milnor and Frances H. (Maloney) McKenzie. He was a retired Hazelwood Construction Company employee, with 45 years' service, a member of United Commercial Travelers, Cumberland Lodge 63 BPO Elks, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Surviving are his widow, Maude M. (Hoffman) McKenzie; two sons, Dr. D. P. McKenzie Jr., LaVale; Michael H. McKenzie, city; a brother, G. Francis McKenzie, city; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Miltenberger and Mrs. Catherine Koontz, both of LaVale; and ten grandchildren. Friends will be received at Silcox-Merritt Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church.     Mrs. Maude Mae McKenzie, 79, formerly of 103 Park Avenue, LaVale, died Thursday, April 6, 1989, at Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for three days. She had resided at the Allegany County Nursing Home for the past 13 years. Born in Hancock Nov. 20, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Henry H. and Lucy (Bishop) Hoffman. Mrs. McKenzie was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cumberland. She was a charter member and past president of the Ladies of the Elks, Lodge 63, and was a former national officer of the United Commercial Travelers. Her husband, Daniel P. McKenzie Sr., died Nov. 19, 1974. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Daniel P. McKenzie Jr. and Michael H. McKenzie, both of LaVale; two sisters, Hope Allen, Short Gap, W.Va.; and Leota Joy, LaVale; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence. Services will be conducted there Saturday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Walter V. Roe Jr. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
