FROSTBURG — One year ago today, on Feb. 14, 2009, Stacey Lynn Raley and Jason Allen Morgan exchanged wedding vows at Paris Glendenning Park in Frostburg, surrounded by family and friends. The Rev. George Harpold performed the noon ceremony. The couple were married where they had their first date — a long walk around the park, and share the anniversary date with the bride’s maternal grandparents, Anna Mae (Barclay) Layman and the late William “Bill” Carlton Layman Jr. The bride is the daughter of John Earl and Barbara Ann (Layman) Raley and the granddaughter of the late William “Bill” Carlton Layman Jr. and Anna Mae (Barclay) Layman and the late John Earl and Rita (McKenzie) Raley, all of Frostburg. Stacey is a 1998 graduate of Frostburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood/elementary education and a 1999 graduate of Frostburg State University with a master’s degree in reading. She is currently a Title I teacher at Augusta Elementary School in Hampshire County, W.Va. The groom is son of Mary Bernadette (Brailer) and Thomas Joseph Morgan Sr. of Cumberland and the grandson of the late Mary Jo (Malloy) and Francis Joseph Brailer of Mount Savage and the late Nannie Bell (Scott) and Thomas Russell Morgan of Barrelville. Jason served in the United States Navy from 1995 to 1999. He is currently employed as a correctional officer at Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland. At the conclusion of the ceremony on Feb. 14, 2009, the bride and groom attended a small dinner with family and friends at Sand Springs Saloon in Frostburg in honor of their union. On April 18, 2009, the couple celebrated their wedding reception at the Moose in Frostburg. Entertainment was provided by Music Express of Frostburg. The wedding cake was made by Bonnie Goebel of Mount Savage and the buffet-style dinner was prepared by the staff at the Moose in Frostburg. The Rev. Darrell Layman, great-uncle to the bride, blessed their special day. Joshua Miller, friend of the couple, sang two songs dedicated to the bride’s mother and grandmother. Darrin Hott, best friend of the groom, gave the toast. The couple danced their first dance to “Lost in this Moment” by Big & Rich. Stacey and Jason would like to thank all of their family and friends for spending both of their special days with them as they joined in the union of marriage. The couple honeymooned June 13 through 20, 2009, on the Carnival Pride on an Eastern Caribbean Cruise, stopping at the ports of Half Moon Cay, Grand Turks and Freeport, Bahamas. FROSTBURG - John E. (Big John) Raley Sr., 64, of Wenck's Lane, died Thursday at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. Born here, he was a son of the late Clarence M. Raley and Barbara (McKenzie) Raley. Both of his wives, Rita (McKenzie) Raley and Lily Wenck Sevinsky Raley, preceded him in death. Mr. Raley was retired from the Celanese Corporation. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are one son, John E. Raley Jr., Eckhart; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Beechie and Mrs. Margaret Booth, both of Vale Summit; Miss Teresa Raley, Eckhart; one stepson, James Sevinsky, and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Rhonda Femi and Mrs. Anna Davis, all of Frostburg; four sisters, Mrs. Verna McKenzie, Mrs. Dorothy Arnold, and Mrs. Evelyn McKenzie, all of here, and Mrs. Ruth Fate, Easton; two brothers, Albert Raley, Zihlman, and Gordon Raley, Finzel; seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday by Monsignor John L. Reinsfelder. Interment will be in Finzel Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Danny McKenzie, David McKenzie, Raymond Raley, John McKenzie, James Raley and Mike Raley. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Rita Raley, 55, of Vale Summit, died Friday night at Sacred Heart Hospital after an illness of two weeks. Born here, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Mary Ellen Minnick McKenzie. Mrs. Raley was employed by the Allegany County Board of Education at Beall High School. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Local number 1633 AFCME. Surviving are her husband, John Raley, a son, John Earl Raley Jr., at home; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Beechie, Vale Summit, and Teresa and Margaret Raley, both at home; 12 sisters, Mrs. Clara Cain, Akron Ohio; Mrs. Rhoda Cutter, Midlothian; Mrs. Della Connor and Mrs. Ruth Durkin, both of Eckhart; Mrs. Evelyn Shriver, Mrs. Wilma Femi, Mrs. Thelma Raley, and Mrs. Mildred Minick, all of here; Mrs. Margaret Mellott, Ridgeley; Mrs. Hilda Giles, Midlothian; Mrs. Helen Pfitzenmayer, Ellerslie, and Mrs. Margaret Jane Jones, Charleston, W. Va. Also, five brothers, Ervin McKenzie, Pottsville, Pa., and Anthony, William, Francis and Eugene McKenzie, all of here, and two grandsons. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home.
