    Gordon "Gordy" James Opel Jr., 41, died at home surrounded by his family on Monday November 5, 2018. Born on March 12, 1977, in Cumberland, he was the son of Jean (Mcknew) Opel and the late Gordon J. Opel Sr. Gordy was a Christian and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish Saint Michael's Church. He was a 1995 graduate of Beall High school and attended Allegany College of Maryland. Gordy began his career working with his father at Opel Construction in 1995. He later worked at Bayliner from 1998-2000. His most recent career was at The Department of Juvenile Justice Service where he served 18 years working as a Supervisor. He also worked side jobs as a Maryland licensed contractor under the business name "Opel and Sons". Gordy played baseball and football as a child and throughout high school. He was a member of several championship baseball teams and he played in the state finals for Beall High School for football in 1993. Gordy was an avid bowler. He started bowling when he was a young child and continued until currently. He bowled on the Men's League at Sherwood Bowling Alley. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted father and the majority of his time was spent with his children which he immensely enjoyed. Surviving are his mother Jean Opel, Midlothian; brothers, Shawn Opel and his wife Katrina, Lakewood, W.Va., and Christopher Opel, Midlothian; children, Caleb, Noah, Riley, and Carter, Frostburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Divine Mercy Parish St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks serving as celebrant. Pallbearers will be Tony Tringler, Shawn Rice, Doug Frost, Josh Shoemake, Todd Pressman, and Jeff Ashenfelter. Gordy was a kind, loving person that would put his family in front of himself. He was a hard worker and a loving father. He liked to make people laugh and had a good sense of humor. Even though Gordy left this world prematurely, he will continue to live on through his children.     MIDLOTHIAN — Gordon “Gordy” James Opel Sr., 58, died on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 29, 1953, in Ohio, to the parents of the late Russell J. Opel and Charlotte Clark. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Shirley Opel. Mr. Opel was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and sang in the choir for 15 years; and a member of the K of C 1442, Frostburg. He was a 1972 graduate of the Vocational Technical Center in Carpentry; formerly employed by Celanese Corp., Winner Brothers, Opel Construction, Finan Center and currently with Ritchie Trucking and Excavating. Gordy enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, gardening and working on vehicles and houses. He coached Little League Baseball and Pee Wee Football. He loved spending time with his grandkids. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Jean (McKnew) Opel; three sons, Gordon Opel Jr. and wife Paula, Bowling Green, Shawn Opel and wife Katrina, Lakewood, W.Va., and Christopher Opel, Grahamtown; eight grandchildren, Caleb, Riley, Noah, Carter, Dylan, Chase, Karley and Conner. Also surviving are two sisters, Joyce Thompson and husband Wayne, Burtonsville and Pam Opel, Grahamtown; several nieces and nephews; many, many good friends and his loyal companion, Smokey. Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Services will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Eric Gauchat O.F.M. Cap. as celebrant. Gordy was cremated in accordance with his wishes.     Frostburg, Sept. 12 - James Clark, 53, of Finzel, died last night in Miners Hospital where he was admitted Tuesday after suffering a paralytic stroke. He had been in failing health for two years. A former clay miner, he was a son of the late John and Holley Winebrenner Clark. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Charles Folk, of Frostburg; Mrs. Lemuel McKenzie and the Misses Betty and Shirley Clark, all at home; three sons, James Clark Jr., of Frostburg; and Allen and Paul Clark, at home; and a number of brothers and sisters. The body is at the home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic church at Pocahontas, Pa. The Cumberland Evening Times, September 12, 1946

    FROSTBURG — Mrs. Anna P. Clark, 79, of Finzel Road, died Saturday in Frostburg Community Hospital. She had been a patient in the Goodwill Mennonite Nursing Home. Grantsville, since May. Born in Finzel, she was a daughter of Ihe late Joseph and Ida (Rosenberger) Burdock. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clark. Mrs. Clark was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Sodality of the church and the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Catherine Folk, Mrs. Charlotte Opel, Mrs. Betty Housel and Mrs. Shirley Blank, all of Frostburg; three sons, James Clark, Allen Clark and Paul Clark, all of Finzel, a brother, Marshall Burdock, Meyersdale; four sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Eichhorn and Mrs. Mary Hetz, both of Frostburg; Mrs. Charlotte McKenzie, Elyria, Ohio, and Mrs. Flossie Boyer, Finzel; 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christmas (sic: Christian) Burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church. Interment will be in Johnson Cemetery. Pallbearers, all grandsons, will be Robert Clark, Gail Clark, Ralph Folk, Gordon Opel, Larry Housel and Glenn Blank.
