Crosten, 34, of Frostburg, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 9, 1978 in Cumberland, he is the son of the late Charley and Sandy Crosten. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Kelly Crosten. Surviving him are his wife, Lisa (Thorn) Crosten; son and best friend, Chuckie Crosten; three brothers, Wayne and wife Hilda, LaVale, Mike, Cumberland, Jeff wife Sandy, Hyndman, Pa.; brothers-in-law, William Shaffer and Phillip Thorn; sisters-in-law, Miranda Slater and Kelly Thorn; half-brother and sister, Charles and Sharon Crosten; mother and father-in-law, Nadine and Lewis Slater; nieces and nephews, Kate Green, Sophia Thorn, Jeffery, Samantha, Jordyn, Kamron and Peyton Crosten; very special friend, Steve Conners. Funeral services will be held at Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave, Frostburg, on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at 4 p.m. with Diane Smith officiating. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. Charles will be cremated following the services in accordance with his wishes. LAVALE — Charles Melvin Crosten Sr., 75, of LaVale, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after a long bout with pneumonia. Born Oct. 25, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Oda W. Crosten and Viola (Getson) Crosten. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sandra “Sandy” L. Crosten, in 2002; and a daughter, Kelly M. Shaffer, in 2003. Mr. Crosten had been self-employed as a mason in Cumberland and the surrounding areas. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons. Mr. Crosten also liked fishing. He is survived by seven sons, Charles M. Crosten Jr. and wife Audine, Steven Crosten, Brian Crosten, Wayne Crosten and fiancée Hilda, Jeffrey Crosten Sr. and wife Sandy, Michael Crosten and Chuck Crosten; one daughter, Sharon Crosten; 10 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and five great-grandsons; and a special relative, Edith Chaney. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Henry Koelker Sr., 75, former resident, died yesteray at Frederick Memorial Hosital. A native of Cumberland, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Agnes (Arnold) Koelker. His wife, Ada Marie (Layman) Koelker, died in 1961. A veteran of World War I, he was a former employe of the Cumberland Steel Company and of Celanese Fibers Company and was a member of the Catholic Church. Surviving are three sons: Joseph Koelker, Robert W. Koelker and Charles Koelker, all of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Harvey W. May, city; Mrs. Betty Lou Whitford, Hagerstown, and Miss Imogene'Koelker, Washington; four brothers John Koelker, Fort Ashby; Raymond Koelker, Cleveland, Ohio; William Koelker, Akron, Ohio, and Robert Koelker, San Diego, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Mary K. Thompson, city; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body is at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted there Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ada M. Koelker, 66, of 214 Charles Street, wife of Joseph Henry Koelker, died today at Sacred Heart Hospital where she had been a patient one week. Born at Carlos, Md., she was a daughter of. the late George and Anna Louise (Crowe) Layman. Mrs. Koelker was a member of Navy Mothers. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, Joseph H. Koelker Jr., Robert W. Koelker, and Charles A. Koelker, all of this city; five daughters, Mrs. George B. McGlinchey, Cleveland; Mrs. Harvey W. May, Mrs. James R. VVhitford, both of here; Mrs. Richard Larkin, Washington, and Miss Sandra Koelker, at home; two brothers, Benjamin Layman, Syracuse, N. Y., and Lawrence Layman, Washington; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Burns and Mrs. Anna Neat, both of here; Mrs. Charles Wolfe, Hagerstown, and Mrs. Fuller Davis, Frostburg, and 14 grandchildren. The body is at the Silcox Funeral Home where services will be conducted Friday at 11 a. m. by Rev. Louis L. Emerick, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
