FROSTBURG — Aleen Merican, 91, of Leonardtown, formerly of Frostburg, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011, at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown. Born Dec. 29, 1919, in Braddock, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Milton Youngerman and Anna Belle (Winebrenner) Youngerman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Merican; one sister, Florance Stakin; three brothers, Milton Youngerman, Phillip Youngerman and Walter Youngerman. Aleen was employed at the Pentagon, and a member of Mountain Chapter 15 of the Eastern Star, Frostburg Farrady Post 24 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Salem United Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, Michael Merican and wife Denise, Leonardtown; one daughter, Marrianne Scott and husband Gary, LaVale; three grandchildren, John Robert Merican, Karen Merican and Aleen McLevie; one great-grandson, Grant McLevie; and one brother, Robert Youngerman, Florence, S.C. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Monday, April 18, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating. Mt. Chapter 15 will hold a memorial service on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Annabelle (Winebrenner) Youngerman, 97, formerly of Frost Village and more recently of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 1988, at Frostburg Community Hospital. Born here, she was the daughter of the late David Winebrenner and Jane (Hawkins) Winebrenner Burnell. Mrs. Youngerman’s husband, Milton J. Youngerman, died in 1958. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and the Ladies Aid of the church. Survivors include four sons, Milton J. Youngerman, Swissvale, Pa.; Robert Youngerman, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Philip Youngerman, Holiday, Fla.; and Walter R. Youngerman, Clinton, Md.; two daughters, Florence N. Steakin, Tuckerton, N.J.; and Alleen Merican, Frostburg; one sister, Gladys Henderson, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home; one brother, Charles Burnell, Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
