LaVale, MD - Averil Delores Martin, 94, of LaVale, MD, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Born July 6, 1920, in Barton, MD, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Edward Jackson and Mary Elizabeth (Michaels) Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years: Herbert Martin, Jr., February 2, 2001; and a daughter: Delores A. Baker, April 23, 2011. A homemaker, Averil never met a stranger. She could make a friend no matter where she was. Known to family and grandchildren as Nanny, Averil enjoyed spending time with her family and making memories. Averil is survived by her daughters: Darlene E. Proietti, Keyser, WV; Linda S. Reichert and husband, John, LaVale, MD; and Sharon DeVore and husband, Dale, Cresaptown, MD. She is also survived by her brother: Estel Jackson; and her sisters: Phyllis Davis, Cumberland, MD; Lois Bloom, Frostburg, MD; and Eleanor Moore, Frostburg, MD. Averil is also survived by her grandchildren: Deeann Jarrett and husband, Edward; Melanie Kiddy and husband, Douglas; Ryan Reichert and wife, Kim; Lisa Riggins and husband, Tracey; Krista Dorsey and husband, Keith; and Michele Whiteman; as well as four great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 10:00 A.M., with Reverend George Loar. Interment will be Sunset Memorial Park. LONACONING - Edward H. Jackson, 81, of Nikep, died Sunday at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. A native of Nikep, Mr. Jackson was a son of the late George Henry and Clara Louis (Crowe) Jackson. His wife, Mary Elizabeth (Michaels) Jackson preceded him in death. Mr. Jackson was a retired coal miner. Surviving are a son, Estel Jackson, here; four daughters, Mrs. Averil Martin and Mrs. Lois Bloom, both of LaVale; Mrs. Eleanor Moore, here; Mrs. Phyllis Davis, New York; a sister, Mrs. Lula Himmelwright, Cumberland, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at Eichhorn Funeral. Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there tomorrow at 1 p. m. by Rev. Curtis E. Grant.
