  1. 1.  E. Roy Shawn was born about 1915 in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland; died on 8 May 1996 in Arnold, Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

    Notes:

    E. Roy Shawn, 81, of Grasonville and formerly of Annapolis, a retired government employee and community and church leader, died May 8 at the Chesapeake Manor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Arnold. Born in Annapolis, Mr. Shawn attended local schools and graduated from St. John's College in the Class of 1935. He worked for several years as a Specialist in records management for the state government, retiring in 1977. Previously, he was employed in marketing nuclear, aerospace and satellite systems to the federal government. He was employed at different times over a 15-year span as manager of nuclear systems for the Curtis-Wright Corp.; as corporate manager for Radio Corporation of America for National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Federal Aviation Administration affairs; and as corporate manager of space programs for the Philco Division of Ford Motor Co. He was a former member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park where he served as a deacon and elder. At the time of his death, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis. Mr. Shawn was a founder and charter president of the Severn River Lions Club and a chairman of the Annapolis Environmental Commission. Until his illness, he was a member of the board of managers of Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was a member of the Alumni Association of St. John's College and the Auxiliary of Anne Arundel Medical Center and a former member of the National Space and the National Aviation clubs in Washington. Survivors include one son, Roy "Corky" Shawn of Grasonville; one daughter, Linda S. Rankin of Annapolis; one brother, Nelson E. Shawn of Bethesda; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was married to Naumana Smith Shawn, who died in 1991. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park. Burial is private. Arrangements are by John M. Taylor Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the E. Roy Shawn Scholarship Fund, in care of the Severn River Lions Club, P.O.
