    CUMBERLAND — Edward W. McKenzie Sr., 75, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at his son's residence. Born July 3, 1933 in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late Thomas McKenzie and Lena Catherine (Dawson) McKenzie. He was also predeceased by his wife, Lois Jean (Lark) McKenzie in 1992; and one brother, Ronald McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, Edward W. McKenzie Jr. and wife Linda of Keyser, W.Va. and Donald E. McKenzie and wife Julie of Cumberland; one daughter, Ellen J. Boyd of Cumberland, four brothers, Thomas McKenzie, Kenneth McKenzie, Donald McKenzie and Mike McKenzie; two sisters, Mary Lechliter of Keyser and Kitten McDowell and husband Timothy of Pinto; grandchildren, Misty Jenkins husband Steven of Ridgeley, Christy McKenzie and fiancée' Joseph Wood of Ridgeley, Stephanie Boyd and fiancée David Wilds of Cumberland, Nathan William McKenzie of Keyser, Mark Fairbanks of Cumberland and Timothy Fairbanks of Magazine, Ark.; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, "Sparky" his dog. A special thank you to Home Health Hospice and the Lions Club. Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, PA, Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Father Bernard as Celebrant. Born March 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late David Franklin and Ruby Ellen (Lark) Heavner. Mrs. McKenize was a housewife and Catholic by faith. Survivors include her husband, Edward W. McKenzie Sr.; two sons, Edward W. McKenzie Jr., Keyser, W.Va.; Donald E. McKenzie, Cumberland; a daughter, Ellen J. Boyd, Cumberland; a sister, Mona Livengood, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Misty McKenzie, Christy McKenzie, Stephanie Boyd and Nathan William McKenzie. Friends will be received at the John J. Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, LaVale. Services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home by Father Robert F. Hopkins. Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Born Feb. 4, 1911, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late Albert and Alice (Roberson) McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena C. (Dawson) McKenzie, April 9, 1981. Mr. McKenzie was a retired custodian for the Celanese Fiber Corporation’s Amcelle Plant and a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Surviving are six sons, Edward W. McKenzie, Bowman’s Addition; Thomas L. McKenzie, Rawlings; Ronald E. McKenzie and Kenneth L. McKenzie, both of Cumberland; and Joseph M. McKenzie and Donald W. McKenzie, both of Keyser, W.Va.; two daughters, Mary Lechliter, Cumberland; and Kitten McDowell, Potomac Park; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Lease and Theresa McKenzie, both of Cresaptown; and Margaret Clayton, Riverdale; one brother, Clarence McKenzie, Cresaptown; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church by the Rev. DeSales Young.
