ECKHART — Melvin L. Duckworth, 88, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his daughter’s house in Holmdel, N.J. Melvin was born July 2, 1924, in Moscow, to the late Lawson and Carrie (Nichols) Duckworth. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth; three sisters, Corinne Kyle, Gertrude Morgan and Evelyn Maynard and four brothers, Raymond, Edison, Leslie and Wallace Duckworth. Mr. Duckworth was a graduate of Beall High School in 1943 and a member of Eckhart United Methodist Church, Frostburg, American Legion Post 24 and a past president of Frostburg Lions Club. He was a salesman at Potomac Edison for 22 years then managed the Cumberland Electric store in Frostburg for 14 years. Melvin was a US Army veteran from 1943 to 1946 having served in Europe during World War II. He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Forbes and husband John, of New Jersey; son, Dean Duckworth and wife Susan, of West Virginia; four grandchildren, Melissa Ferrell and husband James, Annie Forbes, John Forbes and Carrie Forbes; great-grandtwins, Dean and Daniel; his loving sister, Tess Graves and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Friends and family will be received two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Eckhart United Methodist Church, PO Box 444, Frostburg, MD 21532. ECKHART — Ruth Marie Duckworth, 86, passed away on Sunday April 29, 2012 at her daughter’s house in Holmdel, N.J. Ruth was born Nov. 8, 1925 in Barberton, Ohio to William and Effie (Nelson) Wehling. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters, Idella Fuller, Jean Glines; and brother Bill Wehling. She is the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Duckworth graduated from Barberton High School in 1943. Upon moving to Eckhart she became a member of Eckhart Methodist Church for 45 years were she held a position as treasurer. Ruth was an employee at Stella’s Beauty Shop while in operation. Ruth is survived by her husband of 64 years, Melvin Duckworth; daughter, Vicki Forbes and husband John, N.J.; son, Dean Duckworth and wife Susan, of W.Va.; four grandchildren, Melissa Ferrell and husband James, Annie Forbes, John Forbes and Carrie Forbes; and great-grand twins, Dean and Daniel. FROSTBURG — William H. Wehling, 68, died last night at Miners hospital following a lingering illess. A native of Eckhart, he was a son of the late Theodore and Anna (Kreitzburg) Wehling and had reided in Barberton, Ohio, for the past 40 years. His wife, the former Miss Effie Nelson, preceded him in death. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Glines, Barberton, Mrs. Melvin Duckworth and Mrs. Harry Fuller, both of Frosturg; a son William Wehling, Barberton; three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Williams, Mrs. Harold Powell and Mrs. Milton Peters, all of Barberton; two brothers, Theodore and Frederick Wehling, Barberton, and four granddaughters. Services will be conducted today at 7 p. m. at the Hafer Funeral Home. Rev. Louis L. Emerick, pastor of Midland Methodist Church, will officiate. The body will then be sent to Barberton for a service Friday, with interment in Green Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Akron. The Cumberland Evening Times, October 15, 1952
