    FROSTBURG - Mary Elaine Engle, 74, is now resting in the loving hands of the Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. Born Nov. 30, 1930, in Lords, she was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Emma K. (Wilhelm) Crowe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by one special brother, Ellis Crowe. Mary was a loving and proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, twin, aunt, sister, friend, and neighbor. 'Maw' was an amazing, brave, and compassionate lady. She was fun, full of life, and had a great sense of humor, and she was generous, dignified, and a mentor to many. She was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Frostburg, the Catholic Daughters of America, Farrady Unit 24 American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose 348, Eagles Aerie Auxiliary 1273, and was an active member in the community where she volunteered many years of service. Mary shared her talent of delicious cooking at St. Michael's cafeteria. Being an exceptional caregiver enabled her to touch many lives, and knowing Mary made you a better person. Mary is survived by her three devoted children, Daniel L. Engle and wife Mary 'Jr.' Poolesville, Roxanne Sanford and husband David, Frostburg, and Leslie Weaver and husband Kenny, Long Stretch. She leaves behind her eight grandchildren whom she adored, Heather Mason and husband Derek, Swanton, Jillian Wilks and fiancé Matthew Fridley, Cumberland, Kenneth Engle and wife Meghan, Hanover, PA, Jacqueline Wilks and fiancé Dustin Davis, Hartford, CT, Nicholas Engle, Poolesville, Kenny and Justin Weaver, at home, and Jonathan Sanford, at home. She also leaves behind her three great-grandchildren whom she equally adored, Hayden and Avah Mason and Emily Fridley. She is also survived by her five special sisters, including her twin, Betty Garlitz, Sheffield Lake, OH, Ida Morgan, Baltimore, Fay Garlitz, Lorain, Mabel Horn, Baltimore, and Emma Walker and husband, Donald Preston; four special brothers, Edward Crowe and wife Mary Ann, Avilton, Gilbert Crowe, Baltimore, Glenn Crowe and wife Alice, Amherst, OH, and Ronald Crowe and wife Judy S. Amherst. She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces and nephews whom she delighted in being near. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. by Rev. Father Doug Kenney, and the Farrady Unit 24 Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Michael s Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. concelebrated by Monsignor Paul Byrnes and Rev. Father Doug Kenney. Her body will be cremated following the Mass, and inurnment will be in Saint Ann's Parish Cemetery, Avilton, at a later date.     AVILTON - Edward L. Crowe Sr., 102, died Friday at the home of his son, Edward L. Crowe Jr., with whom he resided. Born in Bloomington Oct. 3, 1882, he was the son of the late Mary Helen Crowe. Mr. Crowe was a retired coal miner and Garrett County road worker. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church here. His wife, the former Emma Catherine Wilhelm, preceded him in death. Also surviving are four other sons, Ellis Crowe, here; Gilbert Crowe, Baltimore; Glen Crowe, Amherst, Ohio; Ronald Crowe, South Amherst, Ohio; six daughters, Mrs. Ida Morgan and Mrs. Mabel Horn, both of Baltimore; Mrs. Faye Garlitz, Lorain, Ohio; Mrs. Betty Garlitz, Sheffield, Ohio; Mrs. Mary Engle and Mrs. Emma Walker, both of Frostburg; 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church Monday at 10 a.m. by Father William Moody. Joseph A. Weber of Frostburg. Mrs. Crowe was the wife of Edward Crowe and daughter of Mrs. Ada Wilhelm of Avilton. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Paul Bugosh, Fay Crowe, of Frostburg; Eddie of Lonaconing; Ellas, Gilbert, Glen, Mabel, Betty, Mary, Emma May, and infant son, all at home.     John Crowe Passes Away

    Lonaconing, Md. - John Crowe, one of the oldest residents of Garrett county, died at his home on the Helmen (?) farm in Garrett County at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Mr. Crowe was ill about two months with dropsy. He was in his 86th year, and with the possible exception of the venerable Hugh McMillan, was the oldest man in the county. For many years he made weekly trips to Lonaconing and the weather was never so severe that he could not get into town. He was a farmer by occupation and had lived for more than 40 years where he died. He is survived by four daughters, Misses Helen and Jane and Mesdames Josephine Broadwater and Peter Wilt, the two latter living on Savage, Garrett county. One son, Silas, lives on the home place. The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. and interment will be made in Blocher Cemetery. The Evening Times, Cumberland, April 24, 1908
