    FROSTBURG John Earl Kerr, 78, of 80 Mount Pleasant St., Frostburg, died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Feb. 2, 1922, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Thomas and Effie (Adkins) Kerr. He also was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Kerr was a retired supervisor for the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services' Green Ridge Youth Center, and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Frostburg, and was an avid grower of roses. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Hazel (Wingert) Kerr; three sons, Jon Thomas Kerr and wife Jacqueline, Frostburg, Glen Joseph Kerr and wife Penny, San Jose, Calif., and Richard Douglas Kerr and wife Jill, Frostburg; four grandchildren, Scott, Brandon, Aaron and Samuel Kerr; one step-grandson, David Troutman; two great-grandchildren, J.R. and Kaitlin Kerr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Tamorria officiating. Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.

    FROSTBURG — Hazel Marie Kerr, 88, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born April 27, 1923 in Wellersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of late Walter and Hazel Wingert. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Kerr. Mrs. Kerr was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Frostburg. She was a homemaker, although was employed at Kelly Springfield and Cleanse during the war. Hazel was a devoted mother and grandmother, she loved her family and will be sadly missed. Surviving are her three sons, Jon Thomas Kerr and wife Jacqueline, Frostburg, Richard Douglas Kerr, Frostburg, Glenn Joseph Kerr and wife Penny, San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, Scott C. Kerr and wife Mary, West Virginia, Aaron A. Kerr, Brandon D. Kerr and wife Vicki, both of Frostburg, and Samuel Kerr, California; four great-grandchildren Scott Jr. Kerr, Katelyn Kerr, Lauren E. Mr. Kerr was a retired miner and was a member of the Frostburg Republican Club and a charter member of the Frostburg Volunteer Fire Company. His wife, Effie (Adkins) Kerr, preceded him in death. Surviving are four sons, Charles, William and John Kerr, all of Frostburg, and Glenn Kerr, Cumberland; a daughter, Mrs. Viola Alexander, Lonaconing; three brothers, William and James Kerr, Frostburg, and Alex Kerr, Homestead, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Jean Menderson, Phoenix, Ariz., 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.     FROSTBURG - Mrs. Effie Kerr, 76, of 80 Mt. Pleasant Street, died this morning in Miners Hospital where she had been a patient a week. She had been in failing health for sometime. The wife of Thomas Kerr and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Adkins, she was a member of Welsh Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving, besides her husband, are five sons, Charles, William, Jack and Walter, all of Frostburg, and Glen, Cumberland; daughter, Mrs. Viola Alexander, Lonaconing, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
