FROSTBURG- Hubert Glenn Crowe, 89, of Finzel passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center with daughters Sherry and Julie by his side. Born December 5, 1924 in Finzel, he was the son of the late Roy Edward Crowe and Clara Lucretia (Wolfe) Crowe. He is preceded in death by his wife Anna Margaret (Nelson) Crowe, son-in-law Jim Deem, 8 brothers and 1 sister. Hubert was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and spent many years doing remodeling work. He was also a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He is survived by and loved by sons, Andrew and wife, Joyce, Frostburg; James and wife Deborah, Halifax, VA ;daughters Elizabeth "Betsy" Deem, Finzel; Sharon Presley and husband Floyd, Eckhart; Julie Dzaack and husband Ken, Canaan Valley, WV; and Valerie Wilson and husband Kevin, Finzel; grandchildren Donna (Crowe) Lucier and husband Nate, Stephen Crowe and wife Waleska, Jessica Crowe, Brian Crowe, Ashley Wilson, Megan (Dzaack) Bayonet and husband Chris, Michael Deem and wife Katie, Melissa Crowe and special friend Gerald Edmonds, Jason Wilson and wife Whitney, Heather (Deem) Kossar and husband Tony, Amy (Dzaack) Curtis and husband Joe, Jon Deem, Erin (Dzaack) O'Dell and husband Chase, Kimberly Crowe; great-grandchildren, Anna Lucier, Gabriel Crowe, Caedon Lucier, Carson Wilson, Emma Bayonet, Sophie Lucier and Reed Wilson. He is also survived by a brother Archie Crowe and wife Geraldine, Keyser, WV; and a sister Ruth Stanton, Grantsville, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Agnew officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the family cemetery lot. Frostburg - Roy Edward Crowe, 67, of Finzel, died Friday in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. A native of Finzel, he was born July 29, 1892, a son of Thomas J. and Mary (Ballah) Crowe. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Clara L. (Wolfe) Crowe; two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Ellifritz, Cresaptown, and Mrs. Ruth Stanton, Grantsville; ten sons, Rev. Raymond Crowe, Baltimore; Rev. Frederick Crowe, Kalispell, Mont.; Rev. Carl Crowe, Rockbridge Baths, Va.; Willard, Frank, Harold and Hubert Crowe, all of Finzel; Archie Crowe, Keyser, W. Va.; Delford Crowe, Grantsville; and Woodrow Crowe, Waynesboro, Pa.; two brothers, Lee Crowe, Arlington, Va., and Denzel Crowe, Baltimore; a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Durst, National Highway; 36 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to the Johnson Emmanuel Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Born in Finzel, she was a daughter of the late Claymore and Lucretia (Arnold) Wolfe. Her husband, Roy E. Crowe, died in 1960. She was a member of Johnson Emmanuel Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Ellifritz, Cresaptown, and Mrs. Ruth Stanton, Grantsville; nine sons, Rev. Raymond Crowe, Glen Burnie; Rev. Frederick Crowe, Chateau, Mont.; Rev. Finzel, Md., July 16 - Thomas J. Crowe, 82, native and lifelong resident of Garrett county, died Wednesday evening. He was ill one week. He was a farmer and a member of the Methodist Church, having served as Sunday school superintendent at Johnson's Church, Route 40, for more than 50 years. Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Mary Bolden; four sons, L. Glen Crowe, Meyersdale; Roy E. Crowe, Finzel; Lee Crowe, Frostburg; a daughter, Mrs. Everett Durst, Frostburg; a brother, Eugene Crowe, Meyersdale; a sister, Mrs. Calvin Wilson, Frostburg; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Thomas J. Crowe, 82, native and lifelong resident of Garrett County, Md., died Wednesday evening, July 14, at his home in Finzel after becoming seriously ill for one week. He was a successful farmer and a member of the Methodist Church, having served as Sunday school superintendent at Johnson's Church, for more than fifty years. His death occurred exactly 30 years after the death of his mother. He was the third of eleven children, only two of whom survive - Eugene Crowe of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Calvin Wilson of Frostburg. He is also survived by his wife, four sons, Glen Crowe, Meyersdale; Roy E. Crowe, Finzel; Lee Crowe, Arlington, Va.; and Denzel Crowe, Frostburg; a daughter, Mrs. Everett Durst, Frostburg; seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Johnson Church along the National Pike, Rev. Virgil Gillum of the Grantsville M. E. Church, officiating. Interment in the Johnson Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas Crowe, 63, Finzel, Md., died last night at 11 o'clock following a heart attack. She had been ill for several months. Besides her husband, she is survived by the following stepchildren: Herman Broadwater, Avilton; Mrs. Chester Green, Lee Crowe and Denzel Crowe, this city; Roy Crowe, Finzel; Glenn Crowe, Meyersdale and Miss Beatrice Crowe, at home. Two sisters and one brother also survive. Funeral services will be held from the Johnson M. E. Church, National road, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. F. L. Baker, pastor of the Grace M. E. CROWE 22 Feb 1915 (Cumberland Times transcription) - George A. Crowe, 87 years of age, died and was buried from the home of son John Crowe at Johnson's, Garrett Co, MD with Rev W S Nicholson of the ME Church South and interment at Johnson's. He was born at Garrett Co, MD and one of the few remaining citizens who can recall stage coaches. His wife died 18 months ago. These children survive: Mrs William A Murphy; Mrs Calvin Wilson; Floyd, John, and Thomas Crowe of Garrett Co; Clarence and Eugene Crowe of Meyersdale, Pa.; and Mrs. Lawrence Finzel and George Crowe of Frostburg.


DEATH OF G. A. CROWE, Died at the home of his son, Floyd Crowe, near Finzel, Md., Friday morning, February 19, aged 87 years and 91 (?) days. Neuralgia of the heart was ascribed as the direct cause of his death. Mr. Crowe was born in Garrett County Jan. 31st, 1828. He was married to Louisa S. Chaney, October 11, 1855, who preceded him to the spirit world July 14, 1913. Mr. Crowe is survived by the following sons and daughter: Clarence E. Crowe, U. S. storekeeper and gauger, (?) now stationed at Buhl & Gatesman Distillery; Eugene Crowe, bookkeeper for the Meyersdale Brewing Company, Floyd, Thomas and John, farmers near Finzel, Md., George Crowe, and Mrs. Lawrence Finzel, of Frostburg, Mrs. Wm. Murphy and Mrs. Calvin Wilson, of Belleville, Md. Two daughters are dead. He also leaves 50 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He led a devoted Christian life and was a member of the Methodist Church from boyhood. Funeral services were conducted in the Emmanuel Chapel near Johnsons on the old National Pike four miles west of Frostburg, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in the presence of a large and sorrowing crowd of relatives and friends.
God has called him from us, One, whom we all loved.
God has beckoned him to come and dwell with him above.
Although we sadly miss him, we know that he is at rest.
We can never more see his smiling face or feel his kind embrace.

Mrs. Louise Crowe was born on the National Pike 2 miles west of Frostburg, Md., August 17, 1837. She was a daughter of Jesse W. Chaney and Susan Lohr Chaney, and was married to George A. Crowe, October 11, 1855. She died at her home near Frostburg, Md., July 14, 1913, after a short illness of apoplexy, aged 76 years. She was a lifelong member of the M. E. Church, of which she was very faithful, and a devoted Christian. She was a teacher in the Sunday school since 1871. She is survived by her aged husband, and the following children: Floyd, Thomas, and John who reside near the old home, Clarence E. and Eugene of this place and George of Frostburg, Mrs. Henrietta Murphy and Mrs. Annie Wilson, near Frostburg, Mrs. Carrie Finzel, of Davis, W. Va., and one sister at Lonaconing, Md., fifty grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Emmanuel Chapel at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, in the presence of a large and sorrowing crowd of relatives and friends.
