FROSTBURG- Edwin Francis Garlitz, 84, of Frostburg passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Meyersdale. Born in Garrett County on March 11, 1931, he was the son of the late Olin Garlitz and Bertha (McKenzie) Garlitz. He was preceded in death by both wives, Rose Mary (Crowe) Garlitz and Margaret (Beeman) Garlitz and an infant son. He was also preceded in death by great friends, Albert Winner, George Winner, Fred Winner, Harry Winner, and Manuel Winner. He was a heavy equipment operator for Winner Brothers Coal Company. Edwin served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran. He served in the 8th and 5th Air Force. He was a 50 year member of the VFW, the American Legion Farrady Post #24, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth "Pete" Garlitz and wife Debora, Cumberland; Tommy "Head" Garlitz, Frostburg; and Mike Garlitz, Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Sharon Kearney, and husband Robert, Georgia; Amy Mathis and husband, Troy, Delaware; and Audrey and Mary. Also surviving are brothers, Paul Garlitz, Herman Garlitz, and Ellis Garlitz, sister, Leona McKenzie, and lifelong friends Leonard and Tommy Winner. The Garlitz Family would like to thank the Nurses, Doctors, and Staff of the hospital and the Golden Living Nursing Home. Edwin's lengthy battle with Dementia and Alzheimer's was terrible, but the kindness and love from all involved made it easier to endure. God Bless and thanks to everyone. Crowe Sr. and Nanny (Arnold) Crowe. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Gray. Surviving are her husband, Edwin Garlitz; three sons, Kenneth “Pete” Garlitz and wife Debora, Cresaptown, Thomas Garlitz, Frostburg, and Michael Garlitz and wife Shannon, Minneapolis; two daughters, Sharon Elizabeth Kearney and husband Robert, Savannah, Ga., and Amy Louise Garlitz, at home; three granddaughters, Crissy, Tanya and Shelley Garlitz; four brothers, Walter Crowe Jr. and wife Phyllis, and Larry Crowe, all of Hoffman, and James Crowe and wife Vickie, LaVale, and Wayne Crowe and wife Pat, New York City; and three sisters, Faith Korns and husband Luther, Midlothian, Betty Fazenbaker, Hoffman, and Nancy Cutter, Frostburg. Surviving are his widow, Bertha (McKenzie) Garlitz; four sons, Edwin Garlitz, Frostburg; Ellis and Paul Garlitz, RD 2, and Herman Garlitz, San Lorenzo, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Leona McKenzie, Mt. Vernon, Ohio; a brother, Melvin Garlitz, RD 2; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Hetz, Avilton; Mrs. Eleanor Minick, Pocahontas; Mrs. Beatrice Durst, Star Route; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Born July 31, 1913, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Inez (Minnick) McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by her husband Olin Francis Garlitz on June 8, 1977; and seven brothers. Mrs. Garlitz was retired from the Bobbin Department of the Celanese Fibers Corporation. She was baptized a Catholic by faith. Surviving are four sons, Edwin Garlitz and wife, Margaret, Frostburg, Ellis Garlitz and wife, Pauline, Frostburg, Paul Garlitz and wife, Mary, Beall School Road, and Herman Garlitz, California; one daughter, Leona McKenzie and husband Darrell, Mount Vernon, Ohio; three sisters, Blanche Spiker, Midland, Pearl Garlitz, Avilton, and Mabel Rush, Frostburg; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife, Nannie (Arnold) Crowe, preceded him in death. Mr. Crowe was a member of the Frostburg Senior Citizens. Surviving are four sons, Walter E. Crowe Jr., and Larry Crowe, both of Hoffman; James Crowe, Cumberland, and Wayne Crowe, New York; five daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Garlitz, Consol; Mrs. Nancy Cutter, Beall School Road; Linda Gray, Ridgeley, W.
