LONACONING - Mrs. Mary L. Alexander, 47, of 309 Dieker Place, St. Mary’s, Ohio, formerly of Lonaconing, died Sunday near Spencerville, Ohio. Born in Lonaconing on March 2, 1940, she was the daughter of Joseph R. and Lovanna (Allen) McKenzie. Mrs. Alexander was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lonaconing, and Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Mary’s. She was formerly employed as a secretary at the Cumberland Kelly-Springfield Tire Plant. Also surviving are her husband, Joe Alexander; one son, Drew Alexander, and one daughter, Dana Alexander, both of Columbus; two brothers, Melvin McKenzie and James McKenzie, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; and three sisters, Mrs. JoAnn Spiker, Lonaconing, Ms. Barbara McKenzie, Midland, and Mrs. Catherine Broadwater, Eckhart. Friends will be received at the Boal-Warnick Funeral Home in Lonaconing on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lonaconing, by the Rev. Lonaconing – Joseph R. “Wang” McKenzie, 79, of 14 Island Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1989, at the Western Maryland State Rehabilitation Center, Hagerstown, where he had been a patient for 12 years. Born Aug. 25, 1910 in Garrett County, he was the son of the late Melvin F. and Emma Ann (Garlitz) McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie retired from Westvaco’s Luke mill in 1974, where he had been a clerk in the old central storehouse. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lonaconing. Surviving are his widow, Lovanna Allen McKenzie; two sons, Melvin F. McKenzie, Dallastown, Pa.; and James H. McKenzie, York, Pa.; three daughters, JoAnn Spiker, Lonaconing; Miss Barbara McKenzie, Frostburg; and Miss Cathy Broadwater, Eckhart; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Boal-Warnick Funeral Home, Lonaconing, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Sodality and Holy Name Society of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will recite the rosary there Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Father Paul Barnes, Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Lonaconing - Lovanna M. McKenzie, 89, formerly of 15 Island Street, Lonaconing, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at St. Vincent DePaul Nursing Hom, Frostburg. Born on May 19, 1912, in Lord (Klondike), she was the daughter of the late James and Christina (Patterson) Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ralph McKenzie in 1989; one daughter, Mary L. Alexander; one son, James H. McKenzie; two grandchildren, Mark E. Spiker and Dianne M. Grimes; a son-in-law, Gary L. Broadwater Sr.; five brothers; and two sisters. Mrs. McKenzie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, and the Sodality of the church. She was formerly employed by the Celanese Corp., and was a homemaker. Besides loving her family, she loved her church and cooking for everyone, especially Sunday dinner. All will miss her. Surviving are three daughters, JoAnn Spiker and husband, Everett of Midland, and Barbara McKenzie and Catherine Broadwater, both of Frostburg; one son, Melvin McKenzie of York, Pa.; one siter, Francine yates; one brother, Harbart Allen; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Sister Joan maenner officiating. Interment will be at the St. Mary's cemetery, Lonaconing.

Lonaconing – A Requiem Mass for Melvin Francis McKenzie, 68, who died Saturday night in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, where he was admitted January 24, will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, of which he was custodian before retiring. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Born in Avilton, he was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Holy Name Society. His parents were the late John and Harriet (Layman) McKenzie. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Emma (Garlitz) McKenzie; two daughters, Mrs. Frank B.
