Born June 28, 1931, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Kermit C. and Estella Ruth (Beachy) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Elizabeth (Bittinger) Goehringer. Mr. Bittinger was a farmer and a graduate from Grantsville High School in 1949. He was a member of Woodmen of the World, Camp 41. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Frances (McKenzie) Bittinger; one son, Michael R. Bittinger, Grantsville; one granddaughter, Sheli Bittinger Gray and husband, Jeff; and two great-granddaughters, Ashlin and Abbie Gray, all of Monument, Colo. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, from 2 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. He was born in Frostburg, Md. and was a son of the late Oscar McKenzie and Bessie (McKenzie) McKenzie. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 76, Meyersdale, and was a previous owner of the Meshack-Browning Club in Grantsville, Md. He is survived by a son, Robert A. McKenzie, of Grantsville, three daughters, Mrs. Betty Bittinger of Grantsville, Mrs. Patricia Garlitz, of Salisbury RD 1 with whom he resided; Mrs. Sharon Mabry of McAllen, Texas; three brothers, Cobey McKenzie of Salisbury; Martin McKenzie of the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland and Jonas McKenzie, Oakland; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Miller, Oakland and Mrs. Myrtle Bridges, Mount Savage, Md.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a former resident of Grantsville. Born in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Beulah (Bosley) Wolfe, and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Silver Spring. Surviving are one son, Robert A. McKenzie, Grantsville; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Bittinger and Mrs. Patricia Garlitz, both of here, and Mrs. Sharon Mabry, College Park, with whom she resided; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.     Frostburg, Feb. 10 — Charles Oscar McKenzie, 57, a farmer of near Finzel, died at his home this morning after an illness of several months. A son of the late Uriah and Cordelia Hutzel McKenzie, he was a native of Boynton, Pa., but spent most of his life in the Finzel section. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, this place. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie McKenzie; five sons, Marshall and Wllbert McKenzie, Grantsvllle; Cobey McKenzie, Finzel; Jonas McKenzie, Baltimore, and Martin McKenzie, Frostburg; two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Miller, Oakland, and Miss Mrytle McKenzie, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Glen Garlltz, Avilton; and Mrs. Roy Miller, Akron, Ohio; and three brothers, George C.     Charles Oscar McKenzie, 57, a former Grantsville resident, died at 7:30 o'clock Monday morning, Feb. 10, at his home near Finzel, after an illness of several months. He recently underwent an operation at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where he was a patient for about two weeks, but was discharged and removed to his home three weeks ago. His death was not unexpected, as hope for his recovery had been abandoned. Although Mr. McKenzie was born near Boynton, Pa., most of his early life was spent in the Finzel section. He was a son of Uriah and Cordelia Hutzell McKenzie. He was well known in this community where he engaged in various occupations. His first occupation was farming, which he did for several years. For a time he also operated a sawmill. Later he became the proprietor of Buckeye Lodge, a roadside inn, three miles west of here. He conducted this establishment for a number of years, during which time he built a comfortable residence at Little Crossings and also the service station now owned by Dew Yommer. Some time ago, Mr. McKenzie disposed of the Lodge and his properties here and left the community. He later returned to the home near Finzel where he has since resided. Surviving are seven children, Jonas McKenzie, Baltimore, Mrs. Peter Miller, Oakland, Martin McKenzie, Frostburg, Cobey McKenzie, Finzel, Marshall and Wilbur McKenzie, Grantsville, and Myrtle McKenzie, at home; three brothers, Joseph McKenzie, Finzel, George McKenzie, Flintstone, Oren McKenzie, Cumberland; two sisters, Mrs. Olen Garlitz, Belleville, and Mrs. Roy Miller, Akron, O.; and twelve grandchildren. His estranged wife, Bessie McKenzie, resides in Frostburg. Mr. McKenzie was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. Meyersdale Republican, February 13, 1941.

Mrs. Bender was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Her first husband died a number of years ago. Surviving besides her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Peter Miller, Oakland, and Mrs. Patrick Garlitz, Frostburg, and five sons, Marshall McKenzie, Avilton; Wilbur Jonas and Martin McKenzie, all of Grantsville, and Cobey McKenzie, Finzel. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home. A requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9 p.m. in St. Michael’s Church with burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
