Born in Cumberland April 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward and Leona (Henderson) Crews. Mr. Crews was employed as a welder. He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and was a former member of Second Baptist Church here. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a reservist in World War II and on active duty in the Korean War. Surviving are his widow, Virginia Lee (McKenzie) Crews; one daughter, Cheryl Crews, at home; three sons, Martin Crews, Mentor-on-the-Lake; Denny Crews, Concord Township, Ohio; Larry Crews, Sitka, Alaska; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Dena Adams and Madeline Shryock, both of Cumberland; Vivian Bagent, Lady Lake, Fla.; one brother, Harry Crews, Cumberland. Friends will be received Monday evening and all day Tuesday at the Brunner-Nixon Funeral Home, 8466 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, Ohio.     MENTOR, Ohio — Virginia 'Ginny' Lee Crews, 89, of Mentor, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, at home surrounded by those she loved. Ginny was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Cumberland, to the late Frank and Mildred McKenzie. She married her next-door neighbor and sweetheart, Harold Emerson Crews, in October 1950. In 1955 they moved to Ohio. She worked as a teacher's aide at Broadmoor School in Mentor for 27 years. For many years, she also managed the Deepwood Bowling League, enriching the lives of developmentally disabled adults in the area. Ginny enjoyed spending time with her large, extended family and loved to celebrate family events such as picnics and campouts. Throughout her life, she made frequent trips to Cumberland with her family to visit her many relatives there. She was a long-time member of Saint Bede Catholic Community and a devout Catholic. She will always be remembered for her complete dedication to family and her love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Survivors include her children, Martin (Patricia) Crews, Denny (Sue) Crews, Larry (Kim) Crews, and Cheryl Crews; grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Tom Jr.) Sturniolo, Dan (Paula) Crews, Kevin (Kris) Crews, Crystal Crews, Jeremy (Minda) Merchak, Melissa Merchak, Hannah Crews, Kelly (James) Randall, Amy Crews, Kristy Crews, Anthony (Autumn) Crews; great-grandchildren, Sammy, Katie, Nicky, Collin, Miles, Nyla, Cameron, Tyler, Piper, Brandon, Matthew, Tia, Nena, and Juniper. Survivors also include her siblings, Bud (Shirley) McKenzie, Rita Markley, Joe (Betty) McKenzie, and Susie (Bob) Atkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Emerson Crews; child, Richard Michael; her parents; and siblings, James R. McKenzie, Mary Jo Growden, and Dorothy Thrasher.     George Frank McKenzie, 80, of 122 Mullin Street, died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mildred (Cunningham) McKenzie. Born here Oct. 6, 1902, he was a son of the late Milnor J. McKenzie and Frances (Maloney) McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was a retired house painter and a former Celanese employee. He was a veteran of Army service and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Also surviving are two sons, George E. McKenzie, Buena Park, Calif.; Joseph J. McKenzie, Chardon, Ohio; a grandson whom he reared, James T. McKenzie, at home; five daughters, Mrs. Mary Jo Growden, Mrs. Dorothy Thrasher and Mrs. Rita Markley, all of Cumberland; Mrs. Virginia Crews, Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio; Mrs. Sue Atkins, Painesville, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Miltenberger and Mrs. Catherine Koontz, both of LaVale; 29 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 9 a m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Born Feb. 6, 1906, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Flora (Evans) Cunningham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George F. McKenzie, in 1983; one son, James R. McKenzie; one brother, Samuel Cunningham; three sisters, Irene Cunningham, Edith Bauman and Catherine Williams and sister-in-law, Clara Cunningham. Ms. McKenzie was a retired cook from Farmdale Nursing Home, Buena Park, Calif. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was a member of the church Sodality and Mother's Club and was a member of the Cumberland Senior Citizens. She was a volunteer at Devlin Manor Nursing Home. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by her loving family and many friends.     Milnor J. McKenzie, 89, of 513 B Street, LaVale, died yesterday in Sacred Heart Hospital, where he had been a patient four weeks. A native of Cumberland, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Atkins) McKenzie and was the husband of the late Frances M. (Maloney) McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie was a retired street car repairman for the Potomac Edison Company. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Potomac Edison Quarter Century Club. Surviving are three sons, Robert M. McKenzie, Cresaptown; George F. McKenzie, Buena Park, Calif.; and Daniel P. McKenzie Sr., LaVale; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret E. Miltenberger, LaVale; and Mrs. Catherine H. Koontz, with whom he resided; 19 grandchildren and 49 great-grand children. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church and burial will be in the parish cemetery.     Mrs. Frances M. McKenzie, 69, wife of Milnor J. McKenzie, 132 Hanover street, died suddenly in Allegany Hospital last night. She became ill at 2 a.m. yesterday and was admitted to the hospital seven hours later. A native of Romney, W. Va., Mrs. McKenzie was a daughter of the late W. H. and Margaret Maloney. She is survived by five daughters; Mrs. C.R. Bauman, of Wiley Ford; Mrs. Bernard Williams, Mrs. G.F. McKenzie and Mrs. Clark Swartley, all of this city, and Mrs. Irene Cunningham, at home; two sons, Samuel J. Cunningham, stationed at the Bainbridge Naval Training Station, and Leo T. Cunningham, aboard the USS Frankfort. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren. A requiem mass will be held Friday at 9 a.m. in St, Mary’s Catholic Church and interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church cemetery. The body will remain at the home.
