CUMBERLAND - Rose Mary (Mae) McElfish, 78, of Hagerstown, formerly of Cumberland, died on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born March 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Sadie (Lavin) Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby L. (Mac) McElfish; and by two sisters; and one brother. Mrs. McElfish was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. She dedicated her life as a mother and housewife. She is survived by four daughters, Roseanne Zimmerman and husband Larry of LaVale, Mary Rita Zombro and husband John P. of Hagerstown, Mary Cecilia McElfish of Cumberland, and Roberta Jean Bobbi Teach and husband Scottie of Williamsport. Also, surviving are nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers Cecil Smith of Frostburg and Dale Smith of Salisbury. Friends may call at the Hafer Funeral Service, P.A., Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Monday December 11, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dave Kraft officiating. Interment will be in St. Michaels Catholic Cemetery, Frostburg. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Sadie (Lavin) Smith, three daughters, Mrs. Robert D. Lewis, Camp Springs; Mrs. Bobby McElfish, Cumberland; Mrs. John Warn, Akron; three sons, Cecil Smith, here; Francis D. Smith, Hyattsville; Eugene Smith Jr., Akron; a sister, Mrs. Ann Robey, Detroit, Mich.; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Sadie Smith, 84, of 41 Mill Street, died Friday night in the National Institutes of Health where she had been a patient since April. She had been ill for two years. Born in Hoffman, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Folk) Lavin. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Sodality of the church. She is survived by three sons, Cecil Smith, Frostburg; Eugene Smith, Akron, Ohio; and Dale F. Smith, Laurel; two daughters, Mrs. Rosemary McElfish, LaVale; and Mrs. Paul Warn, Akron, Ohio; a sister, Miss Edith Lavin, Frostburg; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 1 to 3 p.m. A requiem mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's Church Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. FROSTBURG — Michael Lavin, 75, Hoffman, a retired coal miner, died last night in Miners Hospital here where he had been a patient for one day. Death was attributed to asthma and a heart condition. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church here. Surviving are the following children, Clarence Lavin, Cumberland; Mrs. Eugene Smith; Earl, Vincent, and Edward Lavin, all of Frostburg; Bernard and Edith Lavin, at home; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Wintermyer, LaVale.
