CUMBERLAND — James Markley Sr., 69, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at his home. Born Jan. 14, 1942, in Farmington, W.Va., he was the son of the late Emma (Bray) Markley and David F. Markley, of Fairmont, W.Va. Jim was the last of his siblings. All others preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his wife, Rita (McKenzie) Markley and his family; two daughters, Teresa Dunlap and husband Bob, of Cumberland, and Chris Markley, of Norway; two sons, Jim Markley Jr. and wife Debbie, of Bedford, Pa., and Scott Markley and wife Becky, of Mentor, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Bobby Dunlap and wife Beth, of South Carolina, Ashley Markley and Richard Miller (fiancee), Candice Markley, Kayla Markley, and Tasha Dunlap all of Cumberland, Cheyenne Roy and husband JR, of Stafford, Va., Justin Lilleli and Joachium Lilleli, of Norway, Merideth Markley and Nathen Markley, of Mentor, Ohio, and eight great-grandchildren, Tristan Smith, Cami Dunlap, Abby Dunlap, of South Carolina, James Miller, Landon Miller, Kylie Miller, Dominic Goss and Andrew Goss, of Cumberland. Jim retired after many years as a custodian at the Allegany County Board of Education, but he continued to work for the Board of Education even after he retired. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. One of his favorite outdoor activities was mushroom hunting with his friends. He was a life member of the Sandy Cross Hunting Club and a social member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club. Jim was also a member of Christopher’s Duck Pin Bowling league. Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they gave him his greatest joy. He always looked forward to his many fishing trips with family and friends to Ohio and the annual family reunion at “the barn” in Ohio. Jim donated his body to science and per his request there will be no memorial service. Cumberland Times-News, November 8, 2011
