CUMBERLAND — Robert Leroy Raley, 66, of Allegany County Nursing Home, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the nursing home. Born Dec. 5, 1936, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late Thomas Raley and Mildred (Grant) Raley Combs. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Pansy Ruth Young. Surviving are one sister, Vivian Kirchner and husband Richard, Cumberland, two brothers, Tom Raley and Wanda, Cumberland, Melvin Raley and Lisa, Dubuque, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Joy Conner, Dundalk, with whom he resided for many years. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Friday from noon until 1 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Seaman officiating. Mrs. Mildred Louise Combs, 75, of Booth Towers, died Wednesday at Baltimore County General Hospital in Randallstown. Born in Cresaptown June 12, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Charles R. Grant and Eva (Burke) Grant. Mrs. Combs was a member of Central Assembly of God Church. Her husband was the late Roy A. Combs Sr. Surviving are three sons, Tom Raley, Bowling Green; Robert Raley, Baltimore; Melvin Raley, Pinellas Park, Fla.; four stepsons, Roy A. Combs Jr., Levittown, Pa.; John Combs, LaVale; James Combs, Cumberland; Richard Combs, Gambrills; two daughters, Mrs. Vivian Stone, Brunswick; Mrs. Pansy Young, Baltimore; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Betty Goggin, Baltimore; Mary Jack Combs, Weirton, W.Va.; Mrs. Patricia Miller, Hagerstown; Mrs. Dorothy Walton, Cumberland; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 19 step-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Robert Grant, Cumberland; four sisters, Mrs. Amelia Clayton and Mrs. Pauline Flanagan, both of Cresaptown; Mrs. Dorothy Shimer, Eckhart; Mrs. Verna Moon, LaVale. Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there Friday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Gary J . Butler. Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Grant recently observed their 65th wedding anniversary at their home, 59 Brant Road, Cresaptown. The Grants were married February 3, 1907, at Barnum, W.Va., by Rev. Yost, pastor of the Methodist Church. Attendants were Cornelius Cramer and Miss May Durham. Mrs. Grant, formerly Eva V. Burke, is the daughter of the late Dorcas and William N. Burke. Mr. Grant is the son of the late Mary and John Grant. He has one brother, John, who is 78 and resides in Florida, and two sisters, Bertha Stottlemyer, Cresaptown, 86, and Edna Stottlemyer, Cumberland, 83. They are the parents of nine children, seven of whom are living. Amelia Clayton, Cleveland, Ohio; Mildred Combs, LaVale; Robert Grant, Cumberland; Clarence Grant, Hyndman; Pauline Flanagan, Cresaptown; Dorothy Shimer, Cumberland; Verna Moon, LaVale; Paul, a twin to Pauline, died in 1940 and James, who died in 1967. They have 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grant, 83, is able to do some light housework although confined to a wheelchair. Her hobbies were sewing and quilting. Mr. Grant is 89 and enjoys gardening and working in the yard even though he spends most of his time in a wheelchair because of a broken leg suffered in an automobile accident. He was a former pastor of Cresaptown Assembly of God Church and also retired from the Celanese Fibers Company in 1953. The Cumberland Sunday Times, March 12, 1972.

The Rev. Charles R. Grant, 97, of 13513 Brant Avenue, Cresaptown, died yesterday in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born July 10, 1882, in Cresaptown, Rev. Mr. Grant was a son of the late John D. and Mary E. (McKenzie) Grant. His wife, Eva V. (Burke) Grant, died in 1974. Rev. Mr. Grant was a member of the Cresaptown Assembly of God Church, a former Celanese Fibers Company employee, and a retired Assembly of God minister. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Amelia I. Clayton and Mrs. Mildred L. Combs, both of Cresaptown; Mrs. C. Pauline Flanagan, at home; Mrs. Dorothy M. Shimer, Eckhart, and Mrs. Verna R. Moon, LaVale; one son, C. Robert Grant, this city; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Stottlemyer, Cresaptown; 29 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the George Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at the Cresaptown Assembly of God Church with the Rev. William M. Hoard officiating. Interment will be in Eckhart Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers, all grandsons of the late Rev. John D. Grant, 75, a farmer of Cresaptown, died this morning at his home. Mr. Grant is survived by two sons, John and Richard Grant, both of Cresaptown, and by five daughters, Mrs. Scott Chilott, Mrs. James Stottlemeyer, Mrs. John Stottlemeyer, and Mrs. Edward Carpenter, all of Cresaptown, and Mrs. Howard Darr, Frederick, Md. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Thursday from the Cresaptown Church, with burial in the Cresaptown cemetery. The Cumberland Evening Times, July 11, 1928.

Grant, died yesterday morning at her home in Cresaptown. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. H. S. Chilcott, Richard Grant and Mrs. James Stottlemeyer, Cresaptown; Mrs. Howard Darr, Frederick, Md.; Mrs. Edward Carpenter, Philadelphia, Pa.; Mrs. John Stottlemeyer, this city, and John Grant, of Philadelphia.
