Norris (Joe) Garlitz, 68, of RD 1, Lonaconing, Maryland died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland on December 20, 1982. He was born at Avilton, Md., and was a son of the late Orville Garlitz and Molla (Bardon) Garlitz and was a retired electrician from the Celanese Corporation. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Avilton, and was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Grantsville American Legion Post 214. He is survived by his widow, Pearl (McKenzie) Garlitz; five sons, Miles Garlitz, Arnold Garlitz, Clay Garlitz, all of Avilton; Cecil Garlitz of Pocahontas; and Allen Garlitz of Cresaptown, Maryland; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Gilpin of Girard, Ohio; two brothers, Ellis Garlitz of Avilton and Leonard Garlitz of Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Michaels of Amherst, Ohio, and Mrs. Lillian Kemp of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Frostburg with the Rev. John Reinsfelder officiating. Interment was in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad. LONACONING — Pearl Helen Garlitz, 79, of 259 Sam Crow Road, Lonaconing, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Jan. 13, 1923, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Inez (Minick) McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Joseph Garlitz, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by seven brothers, Leo, Clinton, Cobey, Harry, Fred, Stanley, and Norman; three sisters, Bertha Garlitz, Blanche Spiker, and Mabel Winters; and one grandson, Douglass Garlitz. She was a member of Old St. Ann’s Catholic Church and she was a homemaker. Survivors include five sons, Miles J., Arnold B., and Clay L., all of Avilton, Cecil W. of Pocahontas, Pa., Allen L., of Frostburg; one daughter, Helen I. Gilpin of Girard, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a Christian Wake will be held at 3:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Funeral Home, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody officiating. Interment will be held at the Maryland State Veteran’s Cemetery, Rocky Gap, on Tuesday May 28, at 10 a.m. Cumberland Times obituary.

He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Avilton. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mollia (Bardon) Garlitz; four sons, Norris Garlitz and Ellis Garlitz, both of Avilton; Paul Garlitz, Lorrain, Ohio; and Leonard Garlitz, Salisbury, Pa.; two daughters, Mrs. Inez Michael, Amherst, Ohio and Mrs. Lillian Kemp, Sheffield Lake, Ohio, 28 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. I Francis McKinzie of Garrett County in the State of Maryland, being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposeing[sic] mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldy[sic] affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call my hence, do therefore make and publish this my last Will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say:

First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named.

After my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and bequeath as follows:

To my dear wife Sarah M. McKinzie of Garrett County Maryland, all my real and personal property which I now posess[sic], or which may accrue hereafter.
