George Clifford Caton, 63, of RD 2, Frostburg, died suddenly Friday while driving his car on the Ohio Turnpike. He was enroute to Cleveland to visit some of his children. Mr. Caton was a son of the late George and Nancy (Albright) Caton. He was a member of the Lonaconing VFW. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Nellie (Eisler) Caton; four sons, James Caton, Virgil Caton, Thomas Caton, all of Cleveland; Clifford Caton, Frostburg; five daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Himmler, Frostburg; Mrs. Evelyn Short, and Mrs. Emma Thorn, both of Cumberland; Mrs. Maryanne Wilhelm, RD 1, Lonaconing; Mrs. Nancy Wilhelm, Star Route, Frostburg; a brother, Elmer Caton, Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Oma McKenzie, Frostburg, and Mrs. Edna Baker, Cumberland; four stepsons, James Klink, Transfer, Pa.; Robert Klink, Merger, Pa.; Harold Klink, Frostburg; Lewis Shroyer, Cumberland; 36 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Frostburg - Mrs. Mary Verna Caton, 52, of Finzel Road, wife of Clifford Caton, died today at her residence following an illness of five years. A native of Greenville Township, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Cora M. (Steinly) McKenzie and the late Thomas McKenzie. She was born November 21, 1908. Mrs. Caton was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by four sons, Virgil and Clifford Caton, Jr., both of Frostburg; James Caton, Cleveland; and Thomas Caton, at home; five daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Hunter, RD 2, Frostburg; Mrs. Evelyn Short and Mrs.

Caton, 69, widow of George Caton, who died Sunday morning at her home in Finzel. She was stricken by paralysis Saturday. Interment will be in Greenville Township (illegible) Evangelical Church. She is survived by four sons Simon, Saul, Clifford and Elmer Caton, Finzel; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence McKenzie and Mrs. James McKenzie, Finzel, and Mrs. Walter Baker, Cumberland; two brothers, Charles Albright, Pocahontas, Pa.; and Daniel Albright, Garrett, Pa.; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. FROSTBURG — Thomas A. McKenzie, 72, Finzel Road, died last night in Miners Hospital of injuries sustained in an accident about three weeks ago when he fell from a hayloft. He was a son of the late Francis and Leanna (Warner) McKenzie, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas, Pa. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cora (Steinly) McKenzie; two daughters, Mrs. Naomi Lindeman, Route 40, near here, and Mrs. Verna Caton, Finzel; two sons, James and Thomas A. McKenzie Jr., both of Finzel Road; a sister, Mrs. Charles Golden, Meyersdale, Pa., and two brothers, Francis McKenzie, Wellersburg, Pa., and Joseph McKenzie, Route 40. The body will be taken tomorrow morning to the home of his son, James McKenzie. Cumberland Evening Times, December 24, 1952.

Cora Mae McKenzie, 97, of Frostburg RD 2, Md., died June 12, 1980 at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, Md. She was born at Pocahontas, and was a daughter of the late Lewis Steinly and Suzanna (Housel) Steinly. Her husband, Thomas A. McKenzie, and a daughter, Verna McKenzie, preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pocahontas. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Naomi Lindeman and two sons, James A. McKenzie and Thomas F. McKenzie, of Frostburg; one sister, Mrs. Ada Wilhelm, and two brothers, Frank McKenzie and Robert McKenzie, all of Ohio; 21 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas, with Father Henry Joly officiating. Interment will be in Finzel Cemetery. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Paul McKenzie, Bernard McKenzie, Larry McKenzie, Donald McKenzie, Clifford Caton and James Caton. Francis McKenzie, a well-known farmer of Greenville Township, died Monday evening, following an illness of six months. He was aged 93 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was a son of the late John and Barbara Engle McKenzie, natives of Wellersburg. Nearly 70 years ago he wed Leona Weimer (sic) who died Feb. 7, 1935 at an advanced age. Mr. McKenzie lived on the present farm site for the last 60 years.
He is survived by the following children: Joshua, William, Francis and Lewis McKenzie of R.F.D. 4 Meyersdale; Charles, Thomas and Joseph McKenzie of Frostburg, MD., and Mrs. Charles Bolden of High Street, Meyersdale. Two other children, George and Sarah, preceded their father in death. Forty grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) morning at 10 o’clock in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pocahontas, of which church he was a member. Rev. I.A. Stritmatter, pastor of St. Michael’s Church, Pocahontas, West Salisbury, was in charge of the funeral rites. Interment in the church cemetery in Pocahontas, under the directions of R. Reich & Son.

Meyersdale, Pa. June 17 – Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pocahontas, with by the Rev. Innocent A. Stritmatter of Salisbury officiating for Francis McKenzie, member of a pioneer family in Greenville Township. Mr. McKenzie, who was 93, was married 73 years ago and the surviving children are Charles and Joseph McKenzie, Frostburg, Md.; Joshua, William Thomas. Francis and Lewis McKenzie and Mrs. Charles Bolden. Mr. McKenzie lived on his farm 60 years. His wife, the former Miss Leona Werner, died February 7, 1935. Mrs. Laura (Werner) McKenzie, aged wife of Francis McKenzie, died Thursday morning, Feb. 7, at 10 o’clock, at her home in Greenville Township, following a short illness from infirmities incident to old age. She was 89 years, 1 month and 12 days old at the time of her death. She was a daughter of George and Susanna (Enfield) Werner and was born in Greenville Township April 28, 1845. Her husband, who is 92 years old and quite infirm, survives as well as these children: Joshua McKenzie, Francis McKenzie, Lewis McKenzie and William McKenzie, Meyersdale R.D. 4; Charles McKenzie, Joseph McKenzie and Thomas McKenzie, Frostburg, MD. And Mrs. Charles Bolden of Meyersdale. Thirty-eight grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Pocahontas, Monday morning, Feb. 11, at 10:30 o’clock, by Father J. R. Strittmuller followed by interment in the church cemetery under the direction of R. Reich & Sons, local morticians.
