AVILTON - Ellis Charles Crowe, 78, of Avilton, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1992 at his residence. Born April 16, 1914 in Avilton, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Emma C. (Wilhelm) Crowe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ellis C. Crowe, Jr. Mr. Crowe was employed as a construction worker with Orrie Construction Co. Local 616, Laborer's Union, and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, and St. Ann's Shrine, Avilton. He was also a charter member of the Grantsville Lions Club and a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Nora C. McKenzie; three sons, Donald O. Crowe, Bowie, Nevin D. Crowe, Cumberland, Kevin D. Crowe, and wife, Deborah, Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters, Edna M. McKenzie, and husband, Robert V., Juanita C. Swauger, and husband, John W., all of Grantsville; four brothers, Edward Crowe, Avilton, Gilbert Crowe, Baltimore, Glenn Crowe, Amherst, Ohio, Ronald Crowe, South Amherst; six sisters, Ida Morgan and Mable Horn, both of Baltimore, Faye Garlitz, Lorain, Ohio, Betty Garlitz, Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Emma Walker, Avilton, and Mary Engle, Frostburg; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Shrine with the Rev. William Moody officiating, and a grandson, John Swauger, serving as lector. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. AVILTON,MARYALND --- Nora Cecilia (McKenzie) Crowe, 78, of Avilton, went to be with the Lord and her husband, Ellis, on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospice Unit, Cumberland.

Born March 9, 1922, in Avilton, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Maude (Croft) McKenzie. She also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Ellis C. Crowe, Nov. 19, 1992; one son, Ellis (Sonny) Crowe, Dec. 28, 1970; four brothers, Francis, Bernard, William and Sylvester McKenzie; and two sisters, Mary (McKenzie) Broadwater and Rebecca (McKenzie) McLuckie.

She is survived by five children, Edna Mae McKenzie and husband Robert V., Grantsville, Juanita Stoyka and husband Frank, Surfside Beach, S.C., Donald Crowe, Kernersville, N.C., Nevin Crowe, Tampa, Fla., and Kevin Crowe and wife Deborah, Charleston, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, Sonny's children, Jeffrey Crowe Jenkins, wife Michelle and daughter Cherise, and Timothy Crowe Jenkins, all of Frostburg; Edna Mae's children, Linda Bergloff, husband Dan and children Kara and Clayton, West Point, Utah, Tammie Lipscomb, husband Ronald and sons Ronnie and Zack, Avilton, Robert McKenzie Jr., Avilton, Gregory McKenzie, Germantown; Juanita's children, John Swauger Jr., wife Laurel and daughter Lacy, Cumberland, James Swauger, Grantsville, William Swauger, Frostburg; and Donald's daughter, Dana Crowe, Odenton; and two sisters, Pauline Ross, Frostburg, and Genevieve Green, Baltimore. Mrs. Crowe was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, and St. Ann's Shrine, Avilton. She was a retired sewing machine operator for Flushing Shirt Factory, Grantsville. She also was a member of the senior citizens and was involved with and maintaining the old St. Ann's Cemetery Fund.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Shrine, Avilton, on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody officiating.

Pallbearers will be her eight grandsons, Robert and Gregory McKenzie, Jeffrey and Timothy Jenkins, John, James and William Swauger and Ronald Lipscomb, who will carry Nora to her final resting place in St. Ann's Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers. Following the graveside services, everyone is invited to the Eastern Garrett Fire Hall, Finzel, for dinner and social gathering.

AVILTON - Edward L. Crowe Sr., 102, died Friday at the home of his son, Edward L. Crowe Jr., with whom he resided. Born in Bloomington Oct. 3, 1882, he was the son of the late Mary Helen Crowe. Mr. Crowe was a retired coal miner and Garrett County road worker. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church here. His wife, the former Emma Catherine Wilhelm, preceded him in death. Also surviving are four other sons, Ellis Crowe, here; Gilbert Crowe, Baltimore; Glen Crowe, Amherst, Ohio; Ronald Crowe, South Amherst, Ohio; six daughters, Mrs. Ida Morgan and Mrs. Mabel Horn, both of Baltimore; Mrs. Faye Garlitz, Lorain, Ohio; Mrs. Betty Garlitz, Sheffield, Ohio; Mrs. Mary Engle and Mrs. Emma Walker, both of Frostburg; 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Avilton, Md., Oct. 16 — Funeral rites for Mrs. Emma Catherine Wilhelm Crowe, who died last Friday evening, October 8, at her home near Avilton, were conducted Monday morning from St. Ann's Catholic church by Rev. Joseph A. Weber of Frostburg. Mrs. Crowe was the wife of Edward Crowe and daughter of Mrs. Ada Wilhelm of Avilton. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Paul Bugosh, Fay Crowe, of Frostburg; Eddie of Lonaconing; Ellas, Gilbert, Glen, Mabel, Betty, Mary, Emma May, and infant son, all at home. She was a sister of Mrs. Harry McKenzie, Grantsville; Mrs. Meta Anderson, Frostburg; Mrs. Harry Russell, Barton; Mrs. Marshall Broadwater and Elizabeth, Avilton; Frances Wiling, Leonard and Julius, Thomas, Asa, Floyd, all of Avilton. Andrew George MCKENZIE (Elias Marcellus-1) was born on 29 Aug 1879 in Avilton, Garrett Co., Maryland. He died on 6 Aug 1948 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. LONACONING, Aug. 7 — Andrew G. McKenzie, 68, a retired farmer, died yesterday morning in Allegany Hospital where he was admitted July 7. He had been ill since June 1. Born August 29, 1879 at Avilton, Garrett county, Mr. McKenzie came here 10 years ago. He was the son of the late Elias and Rebecca (Garlitz) McKenzie. His wife, the former Miss Maude Croft, died February 24, 1936. Mr. McKenzie belonged to St. Anne's Catholic Church, Avilton, but attended St. Mary's Church here after he moved to Lonaconing. Surviving are three sons, Francis McKenzie, Avilton, and Bernard and William McKenzie, both of Potomac Park, Cumberland; four daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Green, Barton; Mrs. Rebecca McLuckie, Baltimore Pike, Cumberland; Mrs. Pauline Ross, Lonaconing, and Mrs. Nora Crowe, Avilton. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Rella McNamara, with whom he made his home; three brothers, Clarence, Urban and Arthur McKenzie, all of Lonaconing; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Frostburg, Feb. 26 - Funeral services for Mrs. Maud McKenzie, 55, wife of Andrew McKenzie, who died Monday night at her home in Avilton, Garrett county, will be held tomorrow morning from St. Anne's Catholic Church, Avilton. Besides her husband, Mrs. McKenzie leaves her father, Alexander Croft, and the following children: Mrs. George Broadwater, Mrs. Elbert Green and Francis, Bernard, William, Rebecca, Pauline and Nora McKenzie.
