Frostburg - Sebastian W. McKenzie, 89, Star Route, died yesterday at his home. Born in Sand Patch, he was a son of the late Patrick and Rachel (Hutzel) McKenzie. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Avilton. Surviving are his widow, Ethel (Garlitz) McKenzie; three sons, Paul E., and Gerald N., McKenzie, Star Route, and Jesse A. McKenzie, Bedford, Ohio; five daughters, Mrs. James Maust, Avilton; Mrs. William Warner, Mrs. Norman Pollatto, Bedford, Ohio; Mrs. Frank O'Grince, Ravenna, Ohio; and Miss Jeanne McKenzie, Bedford, Ohio; a brother, Jesse McKenzie, Meyersdale, Pa.; two sisters, Miss Myrtle McKenzie and Mrs. Orpha Brown, Meyersdale; and six grandchildren. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville where friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Requiem mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church. Frostburg - Mrs. Ethel F. McKenzie, 74, of Star Route, Frostburg, died Thursday at her home. Her husband, Sebastian McKenzie, preceded her in death. A native of Avilton, Mrs. McKenzie was a daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Hetz) Garlitz. She is survived by three sons, Paul E. McKenzie and Gerald N. McKenzie, both of Star Route, Frostburg, and Jesse A. McKenzie, Bedford, Ohio; five daughters, Mrs. James Maust, Avilton; Mrs. William Warner, Mrs. Norman Pollalo and Mrs. James Vivian, all of Bedford, Ohio, and Mrs. Frank 0. Grince, Frostburg Star Route; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Miller, Lonaconing; and six grandchildren. Mrs. McKenzie was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Avilton, and the Confraternity of Christain Wives and Mothers. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A funeral mass will be celebrated today at 9 a.m. in St. Ann's Church by Rev. Conrad Raffel, OFM, Cap. of SS Peter and Paul's Church, Cumberland. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The funeral of Mr. Patrick McKenzie, whose death at his home in Finzel occurred Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, took place Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with interment in the cemetery near Finzel. The deceased is survived by his wife and several grown children, all remaining at that locality. He was well known here by many of the older people. Mrs. Rachel McKenzie, widow of Patrick McKenzie late of Greenville Township, Somerset County, PA, died at her home, Aug. 8, 1922, aged 69 years, 9 months, 12 days. After a lingering illness of two years, caused by goiter, she passed to her rest, leaving to mourn her loss ten children, five married and five at home. She was the mother of thirteen children, three of whom preceded her to the grave. She is also survived by two brothers, residing in Nebraska; one sister, of Swanton, MD., and one of Finzel, MD.
The home and church were filled to overflowing by the host of friends and neighbors who assembled to pay their last respects and homage. The floral tributes were very beautiful and great in number. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o’clock Thursday morning in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Pocahontas. A requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Miller, her pastor, and sung by Father J.J. BRADY of Meyersdale. Interment was made in the Beal cemetery.
