    FINZEL - Leatta C. McKenzie, 65, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1989, at Frostburg Community Hospital Extended Care Unit. Born Oct. 1, 1923, in Barberton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Orvel and Leotta (Pope) Crowe. Mrs. McKenzie was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corporation and a member of the Faith Independent Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Clarence M. “Pete” McKenzie; two sisters, Mrs. Iva DeHaven, Winchester, Va., and Mrs. Evelyn Boone, LaVale; one brother, Wilfred Crowe, Finzel; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, Thursday. Services will be conducted there Friday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Teddy R. Herron.     Orville Crowe, 53, a veteran of World War I, died last Sunday morning in the Miners' Hospital, Frostburg, where he had been a patient for a month. He was the son of the late John and Ida Crowe, and was born in the Savage Mountain section of Garrett County, where he resided until three months ago when he moved to Frostburg. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Cleota Pope; five children, Kenneth Crowe, Potomac Park; Wilford Crowe and Mrs. Leota McKenzie, Finzel; Mrs. Iva DeHaven, Winchester, Va., and Mrs. Evelyn Beeman, Wright's Crossing; two brothers, Gilbert Crowe, Eglon, W.Va., and Gurney Crowe, Cumberland; also four sisters, Mrs. Lela Coleman, Frostburg; Mrs. Hazel Brode, Midlothian; Mrs. Pearl Griffith, Finzel, and Mrs. Lulu Wampler, Route 40, near New Colonial Inn, and five grandchildren. Mr. Crowe was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church, near Johnson's in Garrett County. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Zion M. E. Church, Rev. D. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Iva DeHaven, Gainsborough, Va.; Mrs. Leatta McKenzie, Finzel, and Mrs. Evelyn Beeman, Frostburg; two sons, Kenneth 0. Crowe, Indianhead, Pa., and Wilfred Crowe, Finzel; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Michaels and Mrs. Minnie Merrill, Star Route, Frostburg; one brother, Herbert Pope, Star Route, Frostburg; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.     John Crowe, 70, who lived several miles west of Frostburg in Garrett county, died in Miners' Hospital, Frostburg, at 4 a.m., yesterday, of injuries received when struck by an automobile at 11 p.m. Saturday, on the level straight-away halfway up Big Savage mountain. Funeral services will be conducted at Mt. Zion M. E. Church tomorrow. The funeral party will leave the home at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A son of the late George and Louisa Crowe, pioneer settlers of Garrett county, his survivors are the following children: Gurney, Orville, Gilbert and Reynolds Crowe, Mrs. Lulu Wampler, Garrett county; Mrs. Pearl Griffith, Ben Bush, W. Va.; Mrs. Lela Coleman, Midlothian, and Mrs. Hazel Frost, Borden Shaft. He was a brother of Thomas Crowe, Garrett county; Eugene Crowe, Meyersdale, Pa.; Mrs. Calvin Wilson and Mrs. William Murphy, Garrett county, and Mrs. Carrie Finzel, Frostburg. Crowe died as the result of skull and right arm injuries. He was the tenth person to die in the county since the first of the year as the result of auto accidents.     CROWE 22 Feb 1915 (Cumberland Times transcription) - George A. Crowe, 87 years of age, died and was buried from the home of son John Crowe at Johnson's, Garrett Co, MD with Rev W S Nicholson of the ME Church South and interment at Johnson's. He was born at Garrett Co, MD and one of the few remaining citizens who can recall stage coaches. His wife died 18 months ago. These children survive: Mrs William A Murphy; Mrs Calvin Wilson; Floyd, John, and Thomas Crowe of Garrett Co; Clarence and Eugene Crowe of Meyersdale, Pa.; and Mrs. Lawrence Finzel and George Crowe of Frostburg.


    DEATH OF G. A. CROWE, Died at the home of his son, Floyd Crowe, near Finzel, Md., Friday morning, February 19, aged 87 years and 91 (?) days. Neuralgia of the heart was ascribed as the direct cause of his death. Mr. Crowe was born in Garrett County Jan. 31st, 1828. He was married to Louisa S. Chaney, October 11, 1855, who preceded him to the spirit world July 14, 1913. Mr. Crowe is survived by the following sons and daughter: Clarence E. Crowe, U. S. storekeeper and gauger, (?) now stationed at Buhl & Gatesman Distillery; Eugene Crowe, bookkeeper for the Meyersdale Brewing Company, Floyd, Thomas and John, farmers near Finzel, Md., George Crowe, and Mrs. Lawrence Finzel, of Frostburg, Mrs. Wm. Murphy and Mrs. Calvin Wilson, of Belleville, Md. Two daughters are dead. He also leaves 50 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He led a devoted Christian life and was a member of the Methodist Church from boyhood. Funeral services were conducted in the Emmanuel Chapel near Johnsons on the old National Pike four miles west of Frostburg, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in the presence of a large and sorrowing crowd of relatives and friends.
    God has called him from us, One, whom we all loved.
    God has beckoned him to come and dwell with him above.
    Although we sadly miss him, we know that he is at rest.
    We can never more see his smiling face or feel his kind embrace.

    Notes:

    Mrs. Louise Crowe was born on the National Pike 2 miles west of Frostburg, Md., August 17, 1837. She was a daughter of Jesse W. Chaney and Susan Lohr Chaney, and was married to George A. Crowe, October 11, 1855. She died at her home near Frostburg, Md., July 14, 1913, after a short illness of apoplexy, aged 76 years. She was a lifelong member of the M. E. Church, of which she was very faithful, and a devoted Christian. She was a teacher in the Sunday school since 1871. She is survived by her aged husband, and the following children: Floyd, Thomas, and John who reside near the old home, Clarence E. and Eugene of this place and George of Frostburg, Mrs. Henrietta Murphy and Mrs. Annie Wilson, near Frostburg, Mrs. Carrie Finzel, of Davis, W. Va., and one sister at Lonaconing, Md., fifty grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive. She was laid to rest in the cemetery at Emmanuel Chapel at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, in the presence of a large and sorrowing crowd of relatives and friends.
