Orville S. McKenzie, 66, of Salisbury, died Nov. 22, 1982, at home. He was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Garrett County, Md., son of the late Olen and Annie (Winters) McKenzie. He is survived by his wife, the former Mable M. Lung; three daughters: Mrs. Naomi Knopsnyder, Salisbury; Mrs. Vicki Steinrich, Meyersdale RD; and Mrs. Mary Layton, Salisbury; five sons: Bernard McKenzie, Gray; Bradley McKenzie, Salisbury RD; Conrad Tressler, Grantsville RD, Maryland; Ralph Tressler, Meyersdale; and Grant Tressler, Somerset. Also two brothers: Byard and Howard McKenzie, both of Avilton, Md.; and one sister, Mrs. Leora Brown, Avilton, Md.; 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a retired bricklayer and a veteran of World War II. Friends were received at the Thomas Funeral Home, Salisbury, where funeral services were held with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment, Salisbury Cemetery. The Republic, November 25, 1982.

Avilton, Md., Dec. 7 — Olen McKenzie, 75, died of pneumonia yesterday morning. Mr. McKenzie had lived in this section practically all of his life. He operated a large farm. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Rosella and Leora McKenzie, at home; three sons, Bayard A., Howard and Orville S. McKenzie, all of the Avilton section. Two brothers, Noah McKenzie and Peter McKenzie, near Frostburg, also survive.

Annie E. McKenzie – Grantsville – Annie Elizabeth McKenzie, 72, died Friday evening at the home of her son, Byard McKenzie, of Avilton. She was born in Frostburg, July 26, 1884 and was a daughter of the late Sebastian and May (Entler) Winner. Besides Byard, she is survived by two other sons, Howard McKenzie, Avilton, and Orville McKenzie, Salisbury; one daughter, Mrs. Leora Brown, Avilton; one brother, George Winner, Midland, and one sister, Mrs. Harry Dishong, Frostburg. She was a member of St. Anne’s catholic Church, Avilton, where a funeral service will be conducted tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today. Cumberland Sunday Times, Sunday, December 2, 1956

I Francis McKinzie of Garrett County in the State of Maryland, being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposeing[sic] mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldy[sic] affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call my hence, do therefore make and publish this my last Will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say:

First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named.

After my debts and funeral charges are paid, I devise and bequeath as follows:

To my dear wife Sarah M. McKinzie of Garrett County Maryland, all my real and personal property which I now posess[sic], or which may accrue hereafter.

Item, Two Military Lots situated in Garrett County Maryland known and distinguished as Military Lots No. Five hundred and sixty (560) and No. Five hundred and ninety two (592) westward of Fort Cumberland, containing in these two lots hereby conveyed One hundred acres of land more or less, being a portion of the land conveyed by John L. McCulloh and Maria S. McCulloh his wife and Naitland Porter and Clara A. Porter his wife to William R. Percy by deed dated on the 30th day of Dec. 1870 and recorded in Liber H.R. No. 31 folio 696 one of the Land records of Allegany County, file and recorded July 31 1886 Liber W.H.T. No11 folio 584 &c one of the Land Records of Garrett County Maryland, dureing[sic] her natural life and after her death to be equally divided between my children to share and share alike.

And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Loyolen McKenzie to be sole Executor of this my last Will and testament, revokeing[sic] and annulling all former Wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last Will and testament.

Singular Deaths With Many Coincidences in Life and Death

Henry Garlitz and Morgan Robinson died about ten days ago on Pea Ridge in Garrett county. They lived on adjoining farms for most of their lives and their dual deaths came within an hour of each other. Their ages were the same, verging on 80 years; always near neighbors, of the same politics (Democratic) and religion (Catholics) and buried in the same cemetery at St. Ann's church nearby. They were two good, honest, law-abiding citizens. No one ever had just cause to complain of either of them. Their places in usefulness can not soon be filled. Both left children and grandchildren. Robinson left a widow, but the wife of Garlitz died some years ago. He was the last son of Christian Garlitz, who died in 1868. They were both of old Allegany county stock with large family ramifications. Cumberland, March 9 ~ J.B." The Republican (Oakland, MD), March 12, 1903
