  1. 1.  Rosalie Ethelyn McKenzieRosalie Ethelyn McKenzie was born in 1907 in Maryland (daughter of Samuel Bernard McKenzie and Mamie A. Ravenscroft); died on 6 Aug 1930 in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland.

    Notes:

Frostburg, Md., Aug. 6 — Miss Rosalie Ethelyn McKenzie, aged 24 years, registered nurse at the Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, daughter of Samuel McKenzie, Shaft, who received a fracture of right arm and leg and other injuries this morning at 10 o'clock in front of her home, died at noon at the Miners' Hospital. Miss McKenzie was enroute from Cumberland to her home in Shaft and in alighting from an automobile walked directly into another car coming in the opposite direction. She was knocked to the ground and received two bad fractures. She was taken to Miners Hospital where her injuries were treated. Miss Virginia McKenzie, a sister, also a nurse, was at her bedside and Miss Leah Smith, R. N., Cumberland, was called. Miss McKenzie was enroute from Cumberland to Shaft to nurse a patient and had been brought by Daniel Bolton of Cumberland in a car. She alighted from the machine and walked directly in front of the car driven by Allen Morton of Lonaconing and was struck and knocked down. Bolton and Morton put her in the former's car and took her to the hospital. She is survived by her father, her stepmother, one brother, Charles McKenzie, and two sisters, Misses Bonnie and Virginia McKenzie. Miss McKenzie was an attractive blonde and graduated from the Midland High School. She later entered the Allegany Hospital School of nursing and graduated in 1927 and became a registered nurse. She and her sister, who graduated from Allegany Hospital in 1929, lived at 1 Decatur street, Cumberland. The Cumberland Evening Times, August 6, 1930.

  1. 4.  Charles Lemuel McKenzieCharles Lemuel McKenzie was born on 22 Jul 1849 in Maryland (son of Samuel Francis McKenzie and Catherine Durbin); died on 23 Mar 1932 in Garrett County, Maryland.

    Notes:

This is a winner! The reason this might look strange is that Charles McKenzie (b 1849) was the son of Samuel F. McKenzie (b 1805) and his FIRST wife, Catherine Durbin. Catherine died and Samuel married a second wife, Hannah Guslor, in 1857.

In the 1870 census (District 3, Allegany Co) Charles McKinsey age about 21 (bc 1849) was unmarried and living with his father Samuel (b 1805) and Samuel’s wife Hannah.

According to one of the family trees on Ancestry (with an unnamed owner), this Charles McKenzie (b 1849) married Lydia Wiland at St. Michael’s Catholic church in Frostburg MD on 24 January 1883, with witnesses Cletus Thomas McKenzie and Maria Anna McKenzie present.

In the 1930 census Charles L. McKenzie was living in Shaft, Allegany Co, with his son Samuel and Samuel’s wife Emma. This may be the “Samuel Jr” who signed the death certificate. He may have been called “Jr” within the family because his grandfather was also named Samuel. The death certificate was from also Shaft.

Lastly, the death certificate states the place of burial is St. Anne’s in Avilton MD. I’ve been to this cemetery and seen the grave of Samuel F. and Hannah Guslor there. They have a nice big head stone. I don’t remember seeing the stone for Charles, but it makes sense that they would be there together.

Hope this helps. No one else seems to have a death date for this Charles, so this is new information. Thanks to Don Kagle.
