Born April 3, 1900, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Susanna (Hutzell) Winebrenner. Her husband, William E. Rice, and one son preceded her in death. Mrs. Rice was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Mount Savage, and the Mount Savage Senior Citizens. Surviving are three sons, William G. Rice, Cumberland; Donald C. Rice, Mount Savage; and Elmer W. Viola Deal, age 92, of Bunker Hill, WVa. (formerly of Frostburg), died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Bunker Hill, W.Va. Born October 27, 1921 in Mount Savage, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Maurice and Susan Arvada (Hutzel) Winebrenner. She was married November 28, 1939 to James Harvey Deal, Sr., who died September 10, 1990. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Harvey Deal, Jr., and Eugene Richard Deal; a son-in-law, Herschel Lane Heavner; a great-grandson, Charles Edward Groves; and a great-great grandson, Nathan Allen Pryor. Last of her immediate family, she was also preceded by her brothers and sisters, Lonnie Raymond Winebrenner, Myrtle Alzine Rice, Sarah Elizabeth Bowers, William Benjamin Winebrenner, James Hiram Winebrenner, John Walter Winebrenner, Delcie Louise Witt, Cyrus Samuel Winebrenner, Clinton Edward “Doc” Winebrenner, Susanna Trimble, Ralph Francis “Jake” Winebrenner, Elnora Winebrenner, Jessie Wesley Winebrenner and David Wilbert Winebrenner. She did domestic work for several families in Frostburg and also in her church. Viola was a devoted homemaker, an excellent cook and baker who didn’t need recipes or measuring spoons. She enjoyed a good laugh, solving word puzzles and playing games, especially Rummikub and Chinese checkers. Family was important to her, and she looked forward to the annual Winebrenner Reunions. She was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene and the “elite 90’s group” at the church. Surviving are a daughter, Juanita Mae Heavner of Bunker Hill, W.Va. who was her special care giver; three sons, David William Deal and wife, Mary of Manchester, Md.; Earnest Edward Deal and wife, Mary Ann of Oil City, Pa.; Harold Raymond Deal of Chambersburg, Pa.; and a daughter-in-law, Grace A. Deal of Cumberland, Md.; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. After moving to Baltimore, Allan started working at the Carr Lowery Class Company from which he retired after 35 years of service. Allan was a collector of glassware, especially depression era glass. He also loved to crochet, making many beautiful afghans. OIL CITY, Pa. — In the early morning hours of Monday, March 24, 2014, Earnest E. “Earnie” Deal, 68, of Oil City, was received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. Born at home on April 26, 1945, in Borden Mines, he was a son of the late James and Viola Winebrenner Deal. He graduated from Beall High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Army, Ernie attended Allegany Community College and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1975. Ernie worked his entire life as a funeral director. He began his career in Erie, Pa., at John J. Quinn Funeral Home, where he worked for nine years. In 2012, he retired from Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg, Pa., after 27 years of service. He began attending the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene as a youth but did not come to know the Lord personally until his dad started attending and was saved. Ernie’s life was guided by his faith in Jesus Christ. Feeling a call to the ministry, he had considered becoming a pastor, but was lead to the profession of funeral director, which he considered his ministry. He was a member of the Oil City Community Alliance Church. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and always willing to help neighbors, a mentor to many young funeral directors, and a proud Grand Pap. A cross-country runner while in high school, Ernie enjoyed attending class reunions and recently celebrated his 50th. He was a fan of all Penn State sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers. On June 3, 1972, he married Mary Ann Marley who survives. In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by two sons, Matthew Deal and his wife Rebekah of Oil City, and Michael Deal and his wife Teri of Munhall; and five grandchildren, Benji Deal of Munhall, Madeleine Deal of Oil City, and Brooke, Bryce, and Taylor Gart of Oil City. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia M. “Red” Skidmore, March 22, 1997; a son, Kevin Z. Skidmore, Jan. 9, 2014; three brothers, Harold “Sal” Skidmore, Frank Skidmore, Clifton Skidmore, and Tommy Skidmore (raised like a brother); and a sister, Leona Collawn. Our Dad was a hardworking man during his life. He grew up during the 1930s and 40s. At a young age, after school, he worked the 3 to 11 shift in the coalmines helping dig and load coal cars. He joined the Army National Guard Company D115 Infantry Regiment at a very young age to make extra money. In 1951, Jack married his high school sweetheart, “Red,” whom he loved more than life itself. They moved to Johnstown, Pa., where he worked in the steel mill. Having their first child, “Mommy” wanted to come home, so they moved back and eventually purchased our Grandpap Winebrenner’s home place, referred to as the “Hill.” Alongside with his brother, Bill, they cleared the farm, cutting trees, moving rocks, and all that was needed to call it home. He and our mother raised cows, pigs, and chickens just to keep food on the table. Our parents labored endlessly to support their family. We have had good times and bad, like most families do. Times of sickness, times of happiness, times of sadness and despair, but we have held together as our mother wanted. Today, on that small farm, 10 houses exist and we’re all family, and before our mother’s passing in 1997, it was named Red’s Lane. Dad was an avid baseball player (catcher) through high school, into his early thirties in local leagues, and was instrumental in his sons’ development and interest in sports including his grandchildren. He worked various jobs, including the Cumberland Undergarment factory and eventually the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America. He worked there 23 years until they closed. When mom became sick, he retired early to take care of her and wintered in Lakeland, Fla., until she passed. Jack is survived by his sons, C. Wayne Skidmore and wife, Vickie, Neal “Pete” Skidmore and wife, Donna, all of Slabtown, Dennis “Denny” Skidmore and wife, Rhonda, Midlothian; and his daughter, Jacque Golden and husband, Terry, Slabtown. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Lisa Gaumer and husband, Jason, April Skidmore and fiancé, Roger Moore, Heather Linn and husband, Gary, Jason Skidmore, Becky Skidmore and friend, Aaron Kalbaugh and Ashlyne Skidmore; his great-grandchildren, Logan Skidmore, Daniel Pressman, Blaine Austin, Addison Skidmore, Charlotte Gaumer, Tanner Austin and Max Linn; his step-granddaughter, Angel Africa and husband, Sam; and his step-great-grandchildren, Brooke, Emily, Karlee, Hunter, Chase; and his great-great-grandson, Brantley. Also surviving are his brothers, William “Bill” Skidmore, his best friend, Slabtown, and Leroy “Wee” Skidmore, Grahamtown; his sisters, Helen Potter and husband, Ralph, Roan Mountain, Tenn., Wanda Binnex and husband, Dave, Inez Kifer and husband, Leo, Betty Bittinger and husband, Delmus, Margaret Green and husband, Gary, and Frances Kemp and husband, Kenny, all of Frostburg; and a very special lady friend, Carol Klink and her son, Nathan, and her grandchildren, Emmahley and Allex; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. At his request, Jack is being cremated. Services will be private and at a later date. GRANT TOWN, W.Va. — Kenneth William Winebrenner Jr., 56, of Grant Town, (formerly of Mount Savage), passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at his residence. Born on Aug. 26, 1958, in Cumberland, he was the son of Jeanette “Jean” (Bean) Winebrenner and the late Kenneth W. Winebrenner Sr. Kenneth worked for the Marion County Coal Company. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nanette (Waugerman) Winebrenner; his daughter, Heather Kaye Alves and husband, Evandro; grandson, Emerson Alves; brothers, David J. Winebrenner and finace, Barb Lee, Mount Savage, and Ricky K. Winebrenner and wife, Karen, of Mount Savage and numerous nieces and nephews.
