    MOUNT SAVAGE - Margaret Jane Dorman, 92, formerly of Mount Savage, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She had been a resident of Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Born June 7, 1906, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Flora (Martens) Winebrenner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Stanley Dorman; one daughter, Dorothea Simons; and three sisters, Blanch Helmick, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyszynski. Mrs. Dorman was retired from Mount Savage School Cafeteria. She was an active member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church. She held an office in the Parent-Teacher Association. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Arnold Chapter #57, and was a member of Mount Savage Historical Society, Barrelville Outdoor Club, the Frostburg Senior Citizens, and the Mount Savage Senior Citizens. Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Gibbons, Port Charlotte, Fla., Maxine Leavitt, Silver Spring, and Priscilla Simons, St. Cloud, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Murray Winebrenner, Opalocka, Fla., Victor Winebrenner, Orlando, Fla.; and three sisters, Anna Dougherty, Honey Grove, Texas, Roberta McGuire, Frostburg, and Rose Alice Hobbins, Brooksville, Fla. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rebecca Arnold Lodge #57 will hold a service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Mount Savage United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.     HIALEAH, Fla. -- Lawrence Murray Winebrenner Sr., formerly of Slabtown and Zihlman Md., died peacefully in bed at 11:58 a.m. July 24, 2001 at Epworth Village Retirement Community in Hialeah, at the age of 92 years and 25 days. He was pre-deceased by three former wives, Mary Marguerite "Margie" Martin of Beaufort S.C., Marie Virginia McKinzie of Slabtown, and Francis Brown Sasser of Venice. He is the son of Flora Blanche Martens Winebrenner of Wellersburg, Pa., and Lawrence W. Winebrenner of Slabtown. Four sisters, Peggy Helmick, Jane Dorman, Marie Caughey, and Virginia Lee, preceded him in death. He is survived by three sisters, Anna Lillian in Honey Grove Texas, Roberta Violet McGuire of Frostburg Md., and Rose Alice Hobbes of Florida; and a brother, Victor Martin Winebrenner of Orlando. He has four living children, Lawrence Murray Winebrenner Jr. of Opa Locka, Kay Anita Oleson of Thanatosassa, Jack Martin Winebrenner of St. Petersburg, and Michael Winebrenner of Lavale, Md. He had eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Winebrenner was in the construction trade for over 50 years when he retired in 1974. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps for nine years, including five years during World War II. He served in the South Pacific and was on Guam when the war ceased. He owned and operated the Winebrenner Construction Company for a number of years and built houses for several residents in the area. Mr. Winebrenner was an active church member. He attended Mt. Savage Methodist Church as a boy and was still an active member of Miami First United Methodist Church in Florida until his death. His Pastor, the Rev. Joe Teague, will conduct a memorial service at Epworth Village Retirement Community Chapel in Hialeah at 10:15 a.m. August 8, 2001. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Florida Conference Children's Home in Enterprise, FL. Born Dec. 11, 1914 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Flora (Martens) Winebrenner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph James McGuire Sr.; five sisters, Blanch Helmick, Ann Daugherty, Jane Dorman, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyzynski; two brothers, Lawrence M. Winebrenner and Victor M Winebrenner; a son, Joseph J. McGuire Jr.; and a daughter, Nancy L. Lee . Mrs. McGuire was a member of St. Michaels Church and the Sodality. She received the Medal of Honor from the Archdiocese. She was employed by St. Michaels cafeteria and she was a member of the Frostburg Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Surviving are her daughter, Rose Mary Llewellyn and husband Gary, Barton; grandchildren, Joseph J. McGuire III, Frostburg, Mary Leighty and husband Terry, Kentucky, Tammy Woodcock, Florida, John McGuire and wife Tonya, West Virginia, Roberta Weaver and husband Ernie, Cumberland and Catherine Yutzy and husband Wayne, Frostburg; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; special friend, Bertie Lewis and her sister Rose Hobbins; and sister-in-law, Angela McAteer, Frostburg. Friends will be received at Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at St. Michaels Church at 10 a.m. with Father Ty Hullinger as celebrant.     M. Winebrenner, son of Mrs. Flora Winebrenner, Slabtown, and the late Lawrence Winebrenner, was recently promoted to captain. Capt. Winebrenner, serving with the 71st Signal Battalion in Tokyo, was educated In Mt. Savage High School and enlisted In the Army in 1940. He trained in Mississippi and became a corporal shortly after his basic training. He was then sent to two years special duty in the Pentagon Building, Washington, after which he attended Officers Training School in Georgia.     Sunday, February 6, 2005 - Cumberland Times-News - ORLANDO, Fla. - Lt. Col. Victor Martin Winebrenner, 88, of Orlando, went home to live with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Winebrenner; cherished son of the late Lawrence and Flora Winebrenner; devoted father of Victor Winebrenner Jr. and his wife Claudia, from Jonesboro, Ga. and Robert Winebrenner and his wife Cynthe, from Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joy Moore and her husband David, from Aurora, Ill., and Lois Postil and husband Steve from Tucson, Ariz.; step-daughter, Shirley Davis and her husband Walter, from Debarry; and a step-son, Francis McComant and his wife Joan from Mount Prospect. He was the devoted brother of Rose Alice Hobbins from Ridge Manor, and Roberta McGuire from Frostburg, Md. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor; and predeceased by his sisters, Blanche Helmick, Ann Daugherty, Jane Dorman, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyzynski; and his brother, Murray Winebrenner. He is also survived by several grandchildren; step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was born in Mount Savage on Dec. 7, 1916, where he attended school. He joined the Cumberland National Guard in 1935 and rescued many families, including his wife and newborn son, from high water during the flood. He was inducted into the Armed Forces in August 1944, attended basic training in Fort Macon, and then on to Fort Benning where he attended Officer Candidate School. He retired from the Army in 1965, and taught school until 1979. He was very proud to serve in the Armed Forces, and so proud to be an American. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Feb. 9, where he will be interred with Eleanor, the mother of his children.

    He was buried on 9 Feb 2005 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

    LAKE CITY, Fla. — Priscilla Jane Dorman Simons, 73, of Lake City, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Fla., following a courageous battle with cancer. The Mount Savage native graduated from Mount Savage High School in 1955. She moved to Lake City, Fla., one year ago from Austell, Ga. She is the daughter of the late Margaret Jane Dorman and the late William Stanley Dorman. She was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothea Dorman Simons. Survivors include two sons, Lewis Ayers, of Whitehouse, N.J., and Eric Ayers, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; one daughter, Cassie Hart, of Live Oak, Fla.; two sisters, Maxine Dorman Wixom, of Stevensville, and Eleanor Gibbens, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a very dear friend, Marsha Blanchette, of Lake City, Fla.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.     Thanks for this update. I don't know the husband's name, but if I recall the last time we visited, what? twenty years ago? he wasn't around. Probably divorced. She and a friend were living in a house in central FL. Maybe the "dear friend" mentioned in the obit.
    Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
    STORY: Uncle Stanley [Dorman] took Granddaddy on a fishing trip on the river in central MD and passed rowboats with another Winebrenner [David C or D C, I don't remember] who said they were probably related. The other Winebrenner invited them to come up to his house for supper and to examine the records he had. Uncle Stanley was in a hurry to get home, so they turned down the invitation. How close we sometimes may be to discovering roots!

He was the son of Cecilia Jane (Glass) Twist and the late Joseph McGuire Jr. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Woodcock. He worked as a welder for Marshall Ruby and Sons and was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Michael. He is survived by his mother, Cecilia Jane (Glass) Twist; his son, Joseph McGuire IV of Canton, Ohio; his daughters, Christina Fitzpatrick of Cumberland, and Candice McGuire of Eckhart; several grandchildren; his brothers, John McGuire of Ridgeley, W.Va., Thomas Smith Jr. of Richmond, Va.; and his sister, Mary Leighty and husband, Terry, of Mt. Washington, Ky. A memorial service will be held at the Sowers Funeral Home on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Butch Wright officiating.     Tammy Jane (McGuire) Woodcock, 45, formerly of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, of breast cancer in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph James McGuire Jr., of Frostburg. Surviving are her husband, Ellis Woodcock; mother, Cecelia Jane Twist, of Fort Lauderdale; one sister, Mary E. Leighty and husband Terry, of Louisville, Ky.; three brothers, Joseph J. McGuire III, of Frostburg; John R. McGuire and wife Tanya, of Ridgeley, W.Va.; and Thomas L. Smith and wife Rhonda, of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Tommi J. McGuire and Melissa Brown, of Jacksonville; one son, Daryle Brown, of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment was in Jacksonville National Cemetery on Nov. 9.
