A native of Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Emma J. (Burley) Logsdon. Mr. Logsdon was a farmer and retired coal dealer and was a member of Wills Creek Methodist Chapel. Surviving are his widow, Helen L. (Rowe) Logsdon; a daughter, Miss Mary Jane Logsdon, at home; three sons, Thomas, Robert and James Logsdon, all at home; a brother, Timothy Logsdon, RD 1, Keyser, W. Va., and three sisters, Misses Esther, Mary and Delilah Logsdon, all of RD 1, Hyndman. The body is at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, where services will be conducted Thursday at 3:30 p. m. by Rev. B. I. Harman, pastor of Wills Creek Methodist Chapel. He was born in Hyndman RD1 on Feb. 24, 1915, the son of Charles Edward and Rose May (Lowrey(?) Burley. Mr. Burley is survived by his wife, Emma Roberta (Clites) Burley; two daughters, Linda Mae Wills of Cumberland, and Carol Sue Salyards of Great Mills, Md.; three brothers, Robert Burley of Cumberland, Lewis Burley of Baltimore, and John Burley of Hyndman RD 1; and by two sisters, May Meders of Cumberland and Myrtle Kane of LaVale, Md. He is also survived by four grandchildren. Mr. Burley served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for valor. He was a retired machinist formerly employed by Martin-Marietta of Baltimore. He lived in Cumberland for the past 18 years. Funeral services: Tuesday, February 2 at 1 p.m. at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home in Hyndman with the Rev. Leroy Logsdon and the Rev. Timothy Stamper officiating. Burial in the Porter Cemetery. Man, 33, Fatally Injured - A 33-year-old Hyndman area farmer was killed yesterday when a car he was working on slipped off a jack and fell onto his chest. Robert Edward Logsdon, 33, of RD 1, Hyndman, was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart Hospital following the 3 P.M. accident. Dr. Benedickt Skitarelic, deputy medical examiner said death was caused by asphyxiation due to compression of the chest. The accident occurred at the Grace Garage in Hyndman. A native of Cumberland, Mr. Logsdon was a son of Mrs. Helen L. (Rowe) Logsdon, RD 1, Hyndman, and the late Thomas Logsdon. Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Thomas Logsdon, Jr., RD 1, Hyndman, and James W. Logsdon, Cumberland, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Grace, Hyndman. The body will be at the Zeigler Funeral Home in Hyndman.

Born May 29, 1936, in Hyndman, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Harvey M. and Meridith (Willison) Gaumer. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Gaumer; and a sister, Mary Lou Horner. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert G. Shaffer, whom she married Dec. 12, 1952; sons, Robert C. Shaffer, of Frostburg and his daughter April, James L. Shaffer and wife Carol, of Cumberland, and their children, James, Jennifer, Jodie, Frank, Carol Lee, and William, David G. Shaffer and his children Kristia, Sara and David Ti, and Gregory C. Shaffer, of Frostburg; a sister, Emma Harden, of Hyndman and a sister-in-law, Jean Gaumer, of Eckhart. Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Frostburg, where she was very active and engaged in church ministries. She also volunteered the Western Maryland Food Bank. She touched the lives of many through her kindness. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held in the Church of the Nazarene, 150 Center St., Frostburg, on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Timothy Smith officiating.
