Lonaconoing - Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Jane Crawford, 55 years old, of Moscow, this county, who died in Miners Hospital, Frostburg, Tuesday, will be held from the Pentacostal Church, here, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow. Rev. Shewbridge, pastor, will officiate. Mrs. Crawford died following an operation for the amputation of a leg, which followed the amputation of the other one, with pneumonia held as partly responsible for her demise. She was a daughter of the late Susannah and James Winebrenner of Mt. Savage. She lived in Moscow for 13 years, going there from Mt. Savage. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Elmer Broadwater, Moscow; Mrs. Gibson Matthews, Morgantown, W. (Winebrenner) Winebrenner, Mr. Winebrenner was employed at the Cumberland Brewing Company. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of First Nazarene Church. Also surviving besides his widow, Helen V. (Twigg) Winebrenner, are three children, Mrs. Herbert F. Dawson and Leo L. Winebrenner, both of this city, and Lawrence H. Winebrenner, Seymour, Ind.; two brothers, Charles W. and George Winebrenner, both of Mt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Stanley Dorman; one daughter, Dorothea Simons; and three sisters, Blanch Helmick, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyszynski. Mrs. Dorman was retired from Mount Savage School Cafeteria. She was an active member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church. She held an office in the Parent-Teacher Association. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Arnold Chapter #57, and was a member of Mount Savage Historical Society, Barrelville Outdoor Club, the Frostburg Senior Citizens, and the Mount Savage Senior Citizens. Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Gibbons, Port Charlotte, Fla., Maxine Leavitt, Silver Spring, and Priscilla Simons, St. Cloud, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Murray Winebrenner, Opalocka, Fla., Victor Winebrenner, Orlando, Fla.; and three sisters, Anna Dougherty, Honey Grove, Texas, Roberta McGuire, Frostburg, and Rose Alice Hobbins, Brooksville, Fla. HIALEAH, Fla. -- Lawrence Murray Winebrenner Sr., formerly of Slabtown and Zihlman Md., died peacefully in bed at 11:58 a.m. July 24, 2001 at Epworth Village Retirement Community in Hialeah, at the age of 92 years and 25 days. He was pre-deceased by three former wives, Mary Marguerite "Margie" Martin of Beaufort S.C., Marie Virginia McKinzie of Slabtown, and Francis Brown Sasser of Venice. He is the son of Flora Blanche Martens Winebrenner of Wellersburg, Pa., and Lawrence W. Winebrenner of Slabtown. Four sisters, Peggy Helmick, Jane Dorman, Marie Caughey, and Virginia Lee, preceded him in death. He is survived by three sisters, Anna Lillian in Honey Grove Texas, Roberta Violet McGuire of Frostburg Md., and Rose Alice Hobbes of Florida; and a brother, Victor Martin Winebrenner of Orlando. He has four living children, Lawrence Murray Winebrenner Jr. of Opa Locka, Kay Anita Oleson of Thanatosassa, Jack Martin Winebrenner of St. Petersburg, and Michael Winebrenner of Lavale, Md. He had eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Winebrenner was in the construction trade for over 50 years when he retired in 1974. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps for nine years, including five years during World War II. He served in the South Pacific and was on Guam when the war ceased. He owned and operated the Winebrenner Construction Company for a number of years and built houses for several residents in the area. Mr. Winebrenner was an active church member. He attended Mt. Savage Methodist Church as a boy and was still an active member of Miami First United Methodist Church in Florida until his death. His Pastor, the Rev. Joe Teague, will conduct a memorial service at Epworth Village Retirement Community Chapel in Hialeah at 10:15 a.m. August 8, 2001. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Florida Conference Children's Home in Enterprise, FL. Born Dec. 11, 1914 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Flora (Martens) Winebrenner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph James McGuire Sr.; five sisters, Blanch Helmick, Ann Daugherty, Jane Dorman, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyzynski; two brothers, Lawrence M. Winebrenner and Victor M Winebrenner; a son, Joseph J. McGuire Jr.; and a daughter, Nancy L. Lee . Mrs. McGuire was a member of St. Michaels Church and the Sodality. She received the Medal of Honor from the Archdiocese. She was employed by St. Michaels cafeteria and she was a member of the Frostburg Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Surviving are her daughter, Rose Mary Llewellyn and husband Gary, Barton; grandchildren, Joseph J. M. Winebrenner, son of Mrs. Flora Winebrenner, Slabtown, and the late Lawrence Winebrenner, was recently promoted to captain. Capt. Winebrenner, serving with the 71st Signal Battalion in Tokyo, was educated In Mt. Savage High School and enlisted In the Army in 1940. He trained in Mississippi and became a corporal shortly after his basic training. He was then sent to two years special duty in the Pentagon Building, Washington, after which he attended Officers Training School in Georgia. He left for Tokyo in 1948 where his wife, two sons and daughter joined him in 1949. His wife Is the former Miss Eleanor Brinkman, Cumberland. The Cumberland Sunday Times, January 28, 1951


Sunday, February 6, 2005 - Cumberland Times-News - ORLANDO, Fla. - Lt. Col. Victor Martin Winebrenner, 88, of Orlando, went home to live with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Winebrenner; cherished son of the late Lawrence and Flora Winebrenner; devoted father of Victor Winebrenner Jr. and his wife Claudia, from Jonesboro, Ga. and Robert Winebrenner and his wife Cynthe, from Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joy Moore and her husband David, from Aurora, Ill., and Lois Postil and husband Steve from Tucson, Ariz.; step-daughter, Shirley Davis and her husband Walter, from Debarry; and a step-son, Francis McComant and his wife Joan from Mount Prospect. He was the devoted brother of Rose Alice Hobbins from Ridge Manor, and Roberta McGuire from Frostburg, Md. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor; and predeceased by his sisters, Blanche Helmick, Ann Daugherty, Jane Dorman, Marie Caughey and Virginia Wyzynski; and his brother, Murray Winebrenner. He is also survived by several grandchildren; step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was born in Mount Savage on Dec. 7, 1916, where he attended school. He joined the Cumberland National Guard in 1935 and rescued many families, including his wife and newborn son, from high water during the flood. He was inducted into the Armed Forces in August 1944, attended basic training in Fort Macon, and then on to Fort Benning where he attended Officer Candidate School. He retired from the Army in 1965, and taught school until 1979. He was very proud to serve in the Armed Forces, and so proud to be an American. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Feb. 9, where he will be interred with Eleanor, the mother of his children.

Born October 27, 1921 in Mount Savage, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Maurice and Susan Arvada (Hutzel) Winebrenner. She was married November 28, 1939 to James Harvey Deal, Sr., who died September 10, 1990. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Harvey Deal, Jr., and Eugene Richard Deal; a son-in-law, Herschel Lane Heavner; a great-grandson, Charles Edward Groves; and a great-great grandson, Nathan Allen Pryor. She enjoyed a good laugh, solving word puzzles and playing games, especially Rummikub and Chinese checkers. Family was important to her, and she looked forward to the annual Winebrenner Reunions. She was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene and the “elite 90’s group” at the church. Surviving are a daughter, Juanita Mae Heavner of Bunker Hill, W.Va. who was her special care giver; three sons, David William Deal and wife, Mary of Manchester, Md.; Earnest Edward Deal and wife, Mary Ann of Oil City, Pa.; Harold Raymond Deal of Chambersburg, Pa.; and a daughter-in-law, Grace A. Deal of Cumberland, Md.; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. BEDFORD, Pa. — Iris E. Dawson, 84, of Bedford, formerly of Mechanic Street, Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 11, 1926 in Barrelville, she was the daughter of the late Henry Steward Winebrenner and Hazel Olive (Grady) Winebrenner. She was also preceded in death by her son, Herbert Francis Dawson Jr; and, two brothers, Lawrence H. Winebrenner, and Leonard L. Winebrenner and wife Ruby. Iris grew up in Cumberland and attended Allegany High School. After high school, she worked several jobs, including Mason’s Barn and Telephone Answering Service. Her favorite job was at the B & O, where she met and married Herb, and became a homemaker. She was Methodist by faith. Iris was a member of the D.A.R.; the UTU, Chapel Hill Lodge 176, and Cumberland Aerie 245, F.O.E., where she enjoyed helping out with bingo when she was younger. More than anything, Memaw, as she was affectionately called, loved her family. She was never too busy to be there for anyone who needed help or a hug. In her early years, she loved roller skating, bowling, and bingo, but took time to serve as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for her kids. In later years, she found slot machines to be her total pleasure. Survivors include her husband, Herbert Francis Dawson Sr.; two daughters, Sandi Hnilica and husband George, and Dee Owens and husband Harry; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Dawson; six grandchildren, Dena Couturier and children Harmoni and Noah, Dillard Irvin and wife Kathy and children Amber and Ashley, Dustin Hnilica and wife Jennifer, Krista Friend and husband Jimmy and children Curtis, Madison, Joe, and Sarah, Amber Beachy and husband Darren and children Micah and Jonathan, and Herbert W. Born on Jan. 6, 1939, he was the son of the late George Shoemake and Cora Winebrenner Wolford; stepfather, Joseph Wolford. STORY: Uncle Stanley [Dorman] took Granddaddy on a fishing trip on the river in central MD and passed rowboats with another Winebrenner [David C or D C, I don't remember] who said they were probably related. The other Winebrenner invited them to come up to his house for supper and to examine the records he had. Uncle Stanley was in a hurry to get home, so they turned down the invitation. How close we sometimes may be to discovering roots!

SUTTON, W.Va. — Evelyn Ruth Glyn, 87, a long-time resident of Sutton, W.Va., died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 26, 1924, in Moscow, Mrs. Glyn was the daughter of the late Albion Mobray and Rose Ella (Crawford) Hyde. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Glyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Glyn; sisters Daris Arnold and Helen O’Malley; and brother, James Hyde. A graduate of Barton High School, she was a clerk and stenographer for the Social Security Administration in Maryland, where she worked her entire career. Her sister, Phyllis Richardson, of Lonaconing, and 10 nieces and nephews survive her. A private memorial service will be held in Western Maryland, where Mrs. Glyn was raised. LONACONING — Phyllis (Hyde) Richardson, 88, of Lonaconing, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Born on Feb. 6, 1927, in Moscow, she was the daughter of the late Albion Hyde and Rose Ella (Crawford) Hyde. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Evelyn Glyn, Doris Arnold, James Hyde and Helen O’Malley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A graduate of Barton High School, she was a homemaker. She had been employed with Kelly Springfield in Cumberland for 13 years. She was a member of the former Moscow Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her son, Randall Richardson of Lonaconing, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating. Mrs. O'Malley, who was born in Moscow, Md., graduated from the Gallinger Nursing School in Washington and was a registered nurse at D.C. General Hospital in the 1950s. She took time off to raise her children until 1973, when she returned to work as a nurse for the National Lutheran Home, where she became nursing supervisor. Her marriage to Joseph O'Malley Sr. ended in divorce. Born June 23, 1931 in Moscow, he was the son of the late Albion and Rose (Crawford) Hyde. A daughter, Tina Hyde, and two sisters, Helen O’Malley and Daris Arnold, also preceded him in death. Mr. Hyde was a graduate of Barton High School, Barton. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired from Westvaco Corp., in 1978, having worked in the 4 and 5 Beater Room Lab. He attended the Westernport Church of the Brethren, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He leaves behind his wife, Ann (Hartman) Hyde; a son, Gary Hyde and wife Wilma, of Fort Ashby; a daughter, Debra Bohrer and husband James, of Ridgeley; two sisters, Evelyn Glyn, of Sutton, and Phyllis Richardson, of Lonaconing. BALTIMORE — Allan W. Winebrenner, 82, formerly of Mount Savage, went to be with his Lord, April 16, 2009, at Glen Burnie Nursing Home in Glen Burnie. He was the husband of Ruth M.J. (Shumaker), with whom he celebrated 61 years of marriage. Born on Oct. 13, 1926, he was the son of the late William and Ellie Winebrenner. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Graham; his sister, Thelma; and granddaughter, Amanda Twigg.
After moving to Baltimore, Allan started working at the Carr Lowery Class Company from which he retired after 35 years of service. Allan was a collector of glassware, especially depression era glass. He also loved to crochet, making many beautiful afghans. In addition to his wife, surviving Allan are his brother, Albert; and his sisters, Hazel Shroyer and Marilyn Evans; five children; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Born at home on April 26, 1945, in Borden Mines, he was a son of the late James and Viola Winebrenner Deal. He graduated from Beall High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Army, Ernie attended Allegany Community College and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1975. Ernie worked his entire life as a funeral director. He began his career in Erie, Pa., at John J. Quinn Funeral Home, where he worked for nine years. In 2012, he retired from Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg, Pa., after 27 years of service. He began attending the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene as a youth but did not come to know the Lord personally until his dad started attending and was saved. Ernie’s life was guided by his faith in Jesus Christ. Feeling a call to the ministry, he had considered becoming a pastor, but was lead to the profession of funeral director, which he considered his ministry. He was a member of the Oil City Community Alliance Church. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and always willing to help neighbors, a mentor to many young funeral directors, and a proud Grand Pap. A cross-country runner while in high school, Ernie enjoyed attending class reunions and recently celebrated his 50th. He was a fan of all Penn State sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers. On June 3, 1972, he married Mary Ann Marley who survives. In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by two sons, Matthew Deal and his wife Rebekah of Oil City, and Michael Deal and his wife Teri of Munhall; and five grandchildren, Benji Deal of Munhall, Madeleine Deal of Oil City, and Brooke, Bryce, and Taylor Gart of Oil City. Also surviving are a sister, Juanita Heavner of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two brothers, David Deal and his wife Mary of Manchester, and Harold Deal of Chambersburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by two brothers, James Deal and Eugene Deal; and a brother-in-law, Lane Heavner. Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum Street, Oil City, Pa. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be a visitation at the Sowers Funeral Home, 60 W. Main Street, Frostburg, on Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at the Morrison Funeral Home following visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene 150 Center St. with Rev. Jerry Breedlove Jr. and Rev. Galen Winebrenner officiating.
