"Mrs. Matilda McKinzie died at her home in Rocheport at 2 o'clock Saturday morning, August 16, of cancer. She was laid at rest in the Rocheport cemetery."

"Mrs. McKinzie was born January 18, 1833, in Knox county Ohio. She was married to Mr. John McKinzie fifty-six years last October. The husband, four sons and three daughters survive. She was a noble wife and loving mother."

"With her husband, she had ever been faithful to her church and died in the Catholic faith. She was patient in her affliction and ever thoughtful of others."

"We have a fine example of loyalty in the way her son, Edward, has even been a strong right arm for his parents. He lived with them until he married and then, his home became theirs and he was ever a good son and he has the consolation that he always did everything possible for mother."

GLASGOW RESIDENT KILLED BY TRAIN
FRANK MCKENZIE STRUCK BY C 7 A FREIGHT
IN GLASGOW YARDS WESDNESDAY AFTERNOON

"Frank McKenzie, about 78 years of age, and many years a resident of Glasgow, was instantly killed at 4:56 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a west bound Chicago & Alton freight train No. 83 in the C. and A. yards at Glasgow about 100 yards from the depot."

"It is said that McKenzie, who had been hoeing potatoes on a tract of land near the railroad, was walking west in the middle of the railroad track when he was struck by the train. Engineer Montgomery of Slater and Conductor Fletcher, also of Slater, were in charge of the train. They were not held for investigation. The body was thrown a long distance from the track and was badly mangled."

"Mr. McKenzie is survived by one daughter who lives in Columbia. His wife, three daughters (should be three sons), and a son (should be a daughter) all died a number of years ago. He was a man who kept to himself a great deal and little is known about his intimate life. He was a carpenter by trade."

"Thursday morning it was not known whether an inquest would be held or not."

AGED WOMAN IS CALLED
CITIZEN OF THIS TOWN FOR OVER QUARTER OF A CENTURY
PASSED AWAY. INTERMENT SATURDAY

"Mrs. Amanda Schmoll died Thursday night, October 10, 1935 at 9:55 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carson Blanton in this city. Her death followed an illness of many months and a critical illness of about six weeks. Aged 76 years, seven months, 20 days."

"Mrs. Schmoll had been in very poor health since November of last year, but was able to remain in her home until six weeks ago, when she was taken to the home of Mrs. Blanton where she could have constant care."

"Amanda Dee McKinzie, daughter of John B. and Matilda Logue McKinzie, was born near Vandalia, Illinois on February 20, 1859. She came to Missouri with her parents when at the age of 14 years and spent the remainder of her life in Boone County."

"She was twice married, her first marriage being to John R. Justus on September 18, 1877, who with three of their four children preceded her in death many years ago. She was united in marriage the second time to George Schmoll, on October 15, 1884. To this union nine children were born. One daughter and two sons are dead. The husband died December 16, 1913."

"The following children survive their mother: Mrs. W. H. Buckler, McBaine; Mrs. J. N. Jones, Pearl, Illinois; Mrs. John P. Palmer, Washington, Iowa; Mrs. R. F. Hopper, Columbia; Mrs. Carson Blanton, Centralia; J. M. Schmoll, Parsons, Kansas; A. M. Schmoll, Kansas City. She is also survived by three brothers, John and Henry McKenzie, Columbia, Edward McKenzie of Greenbridge, Mo. and one sister, Mrs. T. D. Balden of Arkansas."

"She is also survived by thirty four grand children and eight great-grandchildren."

"At the age of 16 Mrs. Schmoll was converted and adopted the Christian faith, united with the church of Perche, south of Sturgeon, under the preaching of R. B.Heiser. She moved her membership to the First Christian church of this city. After her health began to fail she found that she could not walk the greater distance from her home to the church and she worshipped at the Holiness church. She was always faithful to her God and to her religion. She was a good, Christian mother, a loyal friend and so long as her health would permit she willingly gave her assistance to those in need."

"She leaves to her children and grand children the heritage of a well spent, useful life. Coming as this woman did, into the early period of this country's development. Mrs. Schmoll began early in life to learn how to meet and to endure hardships. She accepted them as a part of life and endured them with a fortitude that is worthy of emulation. Lives such as this good woman lived are an inspiration to others and constitute an enduring monument in the hearts of those whom she leaves behind, and a light to guide their footsteps into the abundant life."

"Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the First Christian church at 2:30 o'clock, by Reverend C. Allen Burrus."

MRS. T. D. ELDER DIED AT HER HOME LAST NIGHT

"Mrs. T. D. Elder died last night at 8:10 at her home, 301 Ridgway avenue, of cancer."

"Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, January 22, at the Wilkes Boulevard Methodist Church by the Rev. P. P. Taylor at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be at Midway."

"Mrs. Elder is survived by her husband and nine children, who are: William, T. D., Samuel, Marion, Earl, J. B., and Mrs. Mary Wainscott, Mrs. Bessie Perkins and Mrs. Maggie Gray. Four brothers and two sisters also survive. The brothers are: Henry McKenzie, John McKenzie, Frank McKenzie and Ed McKenzie. The sisters are Mrs. Amadia (sic--Amanda) Small and Mrs. Dena Baldwin. EDWARD C. MCKENZIE

"Edward C. McKenzie, 83, of 718 West Fourth, died at the Community Nursing Home at 1:50 a.m. Thursday. He had been ill for the past ten months."

"Mr. McKenzie was born near St. Elmo, Ill., Dec. 12, 1877, the son of the late John and Matilda Logue McKenzie. The family came to Missouri when Mr. McKenzie was five years old. His boyhood and early life was spent in Boone County."

"He was married in Boone County April 17, 1901, to Miss Sarah C. Plott. They were the parents of six children. One son, Morris (sic) McKenzie, died in 1946."

"Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie lived in Boone County during their early married life, later moving to the Green Ridge community to make their home. In 1951 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Green Ridge. Mrs. McKenzie died June 14, 1954."

"Mr. McKenzie was one of a family of ten children. He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters and one stepson, Kelly Tipton."

"Mr. McKenzie was a member of Sacred Heart Church."

"He was employed by the MKT Railroad for 38 years, prior to his retirement several years ago."

Information from Pearl (McKenzie) Bailey of Decatur, IL

In a conversation with Pearl McKenzie Bailey in 1978 or 1979, I wrote down that she had indicated Benny was to be educated to enter the priesthood. However, before he completed any schooling and made any specific vows, he suffered a severe attack of appendicitis wherein his appendix burst and he died from the infection that spread throughout his body.

"Edward McKenzie, for many years a resident of Monticello, died in his home on Vine street, in Monticello, Thursday, October 16, following an illness of long duration. Funeral services were held from St. Philomena's church on Saturday morning at nine o'clock conducted by Rev. D. Healey and the interment was in the Monticello cemetery. He was born in Effingham county, Illinois, and was married to Miss Sarah Katherine (sic) Meyer in that county on September 10, 1882, coming to this county in 1889.

"Eleven children were born to this union, six of whom, with Mrs. McKenzie, survive: Mrs. John Wilcut of Felton, Minn., Mike of Los Angeles, Calif., Earl of Decatur, Irene, Pearle and Francis at home.

"The Altamont News" (Altamont, IL) Wednesday, February 27, 1935 (page 1)

"SERIOUS ACCIDENT"

"On Sunday morning at eleven o'clock Louis (sic) Curtis McKenzie of Altamont was fatally injured in an automobile accident. This accident occurred east of St. Elmo. Mr. McKenzie passed away on Sunday evening. He was riding in a Chevrolet sedan owned and driven by Edward Logue. Accompanying the two were Edward Kavanaugh and Leo Logue. The three received only minor bruises.

"It is reported that the gentlemen were returning home from St. Elmo, when they were crowded off the slab by a large transfer truck. Mr. Logue, in attempting to get back on the pavement, is reported to have cramped his wheels, shooting to the opposite side of the pavement and turning the car on its side. The transfer truck did not stop to offer assistance of any kind.

"An inquest was held on Tuesday afternoon at Habing's and the verdict was "an unavoidable accident," in regard to the death of Mr. McKenzie. Internal injuries as a result of the accident caused his passing."

ACCIDENT WAS FATAL TO CHARLES B. ELDER
INJURIES SUSTAINED WHEN HORSE FELL ON HIM
SUNDAY MORNING AT F. F. DAVIS' FARM

"Charles B. Elder died last night between 9 and 10 o'clock from injuries received when a horse fell on him Sunday morning at the farm of Felix Davis, three miles west of Columbia. A rupture followed the accident. An operation was performed in the hope of saving the young man's life, but the efforts of the surgeons were futile. Interment will take place tomorrow at 11 o'clock at the Midway Methodist church."

"Deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos D. Elder and was only 17 years of age. He was a young man of excellent habits, industrious, considerate of everyone, and possessed of an unusually happy and sunny disposition. No young man in the neighborhood west of Columbia was more highly thought of, or was more universally esteemed for manly and sterling qualities. His untimely passing is deeply deplored by all who knew this fine young man."

Her husband Chester, died on February 17, 1976 in Nashville, Tennessee. By the way, Sibyl's exact birth date is February 26, 1902. Hope I've helped some cousins with this extra info.

"DEATH OF MRS. ISAAC HIGGINS"

Occurred Sunday at the Macon County Hospital from Injuries Received Recently

"Mrs. Isaac Higgins of this city died Monday night, August 19th, at 7:20 at the Macon County Hospital in Decatur as the result of blood poisoning. She was taken to the hospital on Wednesday, August 15th, and for a couple of days, her condition seemed to improve."

"Mrs. Higgins, it will be remembered, tried to commit suicide on Sunday night, August 2, by lying down in front of an I.T.S. car. She was badly cut, and the left hand badly crushed and for a time it was thought the arm would have to be amputated. The body was brought to Monticello over the Wabash Monday at 12:52 and taken directly to the family residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Catholic church. Rev. Father Selva of Bement was in charge. Interment in Monticello cemetery."

"Sarah Jane McKenzie was born in Fayette county, Dec. 24, 1883, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McKenzie of this city. On Oct. 21, 1901, she was united in marriage to Isaac Higgins. Six children were born to this union, five of whom are living, Francis dying five months ago, and it was grief over his death that undermined her health and caused the act which finally resulted in her death."

"Besides her parents and her husband, I. J. Higgins, she leaves the five children: Willard, Charles, Harold, Lewis, and Mary. She also leaves four brothers, Mike, Pearl and Earl of Camp Lincoln, and Francis, of Monticello, and two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Wilcut of Bement, and Irene of Monticello. The family have the sympathy of the community."

"After seven weeks of suffering from abscesses of the liver, Miss Annie May McKenzie died Sunday evening, April 11, at 11 o'clock at the home of her parents on West Main Street. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McKenzie.

"She was born in Fayette County, Illinois, July 24, 1892. During the early part of her illness, she was in a hospital in Effingham, Illinois, but she was brought home and tenderly cared for by her devoted parents. "FORMER MONTICELLO BOY DIES IN SAN FERNANDO, CALIF."

"Word was received here Monday evening telling of the death of Michael Edward McKenzie, son of Mrs. Sarah McKenzie of Decatur, until recently of this city. The message stated that he died Sunday, June 12, in the hospital at San Fernando, Calif.

"Michael Edward McKenzie was born October 17, 1894, in Effingham, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward McKenzie of this city. He attended school here, and after his graduation went to work at the Pepsin Syrup factory until he enlisted in the World War. He went to France with the French Mateau (sic) Battalion. After the close of the war, he returned to his home here and again went to work at the Pepsin Syrup factory, where he was foreman of the bottling works until his health became so bad that he could not stand to continue his duties there.

"He then went to Colorado, where he entered the Fitzsimmons hospital in Denver, in 1922, and after remaining there for about two years, he was improved so much in health that he left there and went to Los Angeles, Calif., to work. He was married while in Denver to Miss Ella Eckland, who was his nurse while he was in the hospital. He was married in 1925, the same year he went to California. There he remained until the 8th of last March when his health again became so poor that he was taken to the hospital in San Fernando, Calif., where his death occurred Sunday.

"He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Sarah McKenzie, three brothers, Earl and Francis of Decatur, James P. of Springfield, two sisters, Mrs. John Wilcutt of Felton, Minn., and Miss Betty McKenzie of Decatur. His father died October 16, 1924.

"Michael was a member of the Catholic church, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Moose Lodge.

"The funeral services were held in San Fernando, and the interment was also made there."
