Mr. DeVore held memberhip in Ellerslie Evangelical Church and Tonkaway Tribe No. 120, Improved Order of Red Men, Cumberland Survivors include four children, Mrs. Henry Lowery and Mrs. George Spellman, Ellerslie; Mrs. Walter Lowery and Harvey DeVore, both of Route 1, Hyndman, Pa., and 28 grandchildren. Burley, of Mount Savage, and Beverley K. Shank and friend Al Gill, of Mount Savage; grandchildren Kenny Burley and wife Chandra, Katrina R. Burley and fiance Tony Ballerina, Kristin K. Shank, Cassie M. Rock and husband Will; and great-grandchildren, Linda Burley, Destiny and Ariella So and Joey Ballerina. Mr. Burley served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II and later served in the US Naval Reserves. He had worked for the Celanese Corporation, South Cumberland Planing Mill, Squires Electric. He was also a Carpenter and Electrician for the IBEW Local 307. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. He died on 13 Mar 1943 at the age of 24 in Burma. Sgt. Jesse R. LaRue, son of Mrs. Josephine LaRue, Ellerslie, shot down a Jap Zero the latter part of last month, according to dispatches from Rangoon, India. Sgt. Larue, top turret gunner on a four-engine U. S. bomber, saved himself and his plane mates by turning loose a terrific burst of fire on the Zero as it was diving. The Zero peeled off to the left before firing a shot and burst into flames. "The twin-50s did it," Larue said. "They're great guns." Larue enlisted May 5, 1941. He trained at Tampa Field and Maxwell Field, Fla., and since getting into the thick of the aerial warfare, he's seen service in the Middle East, Egypt and India. Mrs. Josephine LaRue of Hyndman R. D. has received word from the War Department notifying her that her son, Sgt. Jesse LeRue, 25, is now officially considered dead. Sgt. LaRue previously had been reported as missing in action in the Burma theatre of operations. The soldier entered the service in 1942 and was assigned to the Army Air Forces. He was trained as a turret gunner and had been overseas for several months prior to being reported missing in action. The deceased was a graduate of the Hyndman High School. Jesse was in the 10th. AAF - Missing in action 03-13-1943 - Was a gunner on a bomber - China, Burma, India - Received Air Medal month before going missing. Body never recovered - Went to Hyndman, Pa. High School - Parents: Clarence and Josephine LaRue. - Jesse's name is on Veterans La Rue was a gunner on a B-24D assigned to the Tenth Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Squadron. They were taking part in a mission of four planes to bomb the Pazundaung Bridge at Rangoon, Burma. The formation was attacked by at least seven Japanese fighters, and though the crews fought gallantly, the enemy succeeded in shooting down La Rue's and another plane. They crashed into the Gulf of Martaban, a few miles south of Rangoon. There were no survivors.

He was from Allegany County, MD, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

La Rue is also memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines.

LAVALE — Roy C. LaRue, 87, of LaVale, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center. Born May 12, 1923, in Ellerslie, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence and Josephine (Burley) LaRue. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse LaRue; and mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Angie Thomas. Mr. LaRue was an Army veteran serving his country during World War II. He was a member of the Eckhart Baptist Church, where he was an active member. He served as deacon for over 35 years, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, Awana commander and retired as a deacon emeritus. He worked as a parts manager for various garages and retired from Gateway Motors. He is survived by his wife, Dona Jean (Thomas) LaRue; two sons, David LaRue, LaVale, and Paul LaRue, Watauga, Tenn.; and a daughter, JoAnne LaRue, LaVale. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Sandvick and Pastor Matt Eichhorn officiating. She enjoyed fishing and canoeing at their camp at Little Orleans for over 40 years. Anna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles Taylor; her nieces, who were more like daughters, Carol A. Hillegas and husband, Earl and Theresa A. Stevens and husband, Larry, all of LaVale. She also leaves behind her sisters, Mary Plummer, LaVale and Delores Stottlemeyer, Rawlings; her brother, the Reverend Francis Morris and wife, Shirley, Cumberland; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews; and her two dogs, Riley and Bailey. Frostburg, MD- Delores Mae Stottlemyer, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. She was born December 15, 1928 to the late Pete and Edna Morris. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Michael Oliver Stottlemyer; her baby, Roger Stottlemyer; two sisters Anna Taylor; and Shirley Plummer; two brothers Richard Morris and wife Marlene; and James Morris and wife Audrey; and one son-in-law Arlie Lease. This amazing woman was one of seven siblings and gave birth to 10 children, losing the first shortly after birth. Her husband passed away when the youngest of the nine was only around seven years old. Says her grandson Greg, Jr., “I have trouble keeping up with three and cannot fathom this responsibility”. Those nine children Penny Lease; Vernon Stottlemyer and wife Lorna; Danny Stottlemyer; David Stottlemyer and wife Jean; Tom Stottlemyer and wife Luann; Debra Poland and husband Greg; Michael Stottlemyer and wife Rose; John Stottlemyer and wife Deborah; and James Stottlemyer and wife Terri; went on to provide her with 20 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and 11 step grandchildren for a total of 73 (and growing). She is also survived by one brother Rev. Francis Morris and wife Shirley; one sister Mary Plummer; and two brother-in-laws Charles Taylor and Dick Plummer. This does not include all of the children's friends, friends of friends and people in the community to who she was Mom or Grandma. Along with her husband, she founded the Potomac Valley Revival Center in Rawlings, MD, which has been a consistent staple of the community for over 50 years. She ministered there many times especially after her husband passed. Virtually every single one of those "73" (old enough to talk) can tell stories of growing up in that church. While she wouldn't want to be put in the spotlight for it, that church has helped rescue and save the lives of more people than she ever knew. Says her grandson Greg, Jr. “What I do know is that as far back as I can remember, every time I walked in that church, I could count on seeing her sitting about five rows back, in the aisle, on the left side of that church.” Her strength shown throughout the years is only matched by her love of the Lord. Many may have known her as the persistent/reliable candy lady that was always at the mall selling peanut butter candy to raise money for the church. Most will remember the person who they could call 24/7, no matter what the reason, so that she could pray with/for you to the point that even though she was on the other end of the phone, it felt like she was in the room with you putting her hand on your shoulder saying it was going to be alright, and you believed it because she said so. Greg,Jr. says that “Today, Grandma went home to be with Pap. My favorite last memory was just last week getting back to town in time to introduce her to my Drew (#72). Not only will she be missed by her family, but there is a whole community that has lost a pillar.” We love you and will miss you! See you again soon. MEYERSDALE - Harry George Shuck, 52, died suddenly Thursday at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born here, he was a son of the late George and Alice (Burley) Shuck. Surviving are his widow, Frances (Durst) Shuck; three sons, Carl, here; Paul and Ira Shuck Jr., at home; two daughters, Georgia Shuck, at home; a sister, Mrs. Patricia Beal, Garrett; a brother, Ira Shuck, RD l; three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Kemp, Wellington, Va.; Mrs. Alice Atchison, Rockwood, and Mrs. Shirley Livengood, RD 1, and two grandchildren. A two-car accident near Charlottesville, Va., yesterday snuffed out the lives of a LaVale couple and hospitalized their three-year-old daughter. Victims of the tragedy were John Russell Wineland, 37, of 15 North Woodlawn Avenue, and his wife, Eleanor Louise (Whetsell) Wineland, 31. The child, Debra Wineland, was critically injured and remains hospitalized in Charlottesville Hospital. Attaches today said the outcome of the child's injuries will not be known for about three days. Virginia State Police said the accident occurred around 3:30 p. m. along U. S. Route 250, one mile west of Charlottesville. Police said a westbound car driven by Debra Schmidt, 16, of Farmington, Va., swerved out of control into the path of the Wineland auto. Mr. Wineland, a native of Connellsville, Pa., was born September 30, 1926, a son of Russell J. and Edith A. (Myers) Wineland, of 538 "A" Street, LaVale. He was a graduate of Allegany High School and attended the University of Maryland. Mr. Wineland, a veteran of World War II, was employed as a foreman in the wareroom at Works No. 7 of Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. He was a member of the LaVale Methodist Church. Besides his parents and daughter, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Robert G. Wallizer, of LaVale. Mrs. Wineland, a native of Cumberland, was born February 4, 1933 a daughter of Charles H. and Gladys L. (Sanders) Whetsell of 609 Lincoln Street. She was a graduate of Allegany High School and Frostburg State College and was a member of the faculty of Parkside School in LaVale. Mrs. Wineland was also a member of the LaVale Methodist Church. She was a member of the Living Water Christian Fellowship, Meyersdale. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his childhood friend Frank Lee and was blessed with a great sense of humor. Man, 33, Fatally Injured - A 33-year-old Hyndman area farmer was killed yesterday when a car he was working on slipped off a jack and fell onto his chest. Robert Edward Logsdon, 33, of RD 1, Hyndman, was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart Hospital following the 3 P.M. accident. Dr. Benedickt Skitarelic, deputy medical examiner said death was caused by asphyxiation due to compression of the chest. The accident occurred at the Grace Garage in Hyndman. A native of Cumberland, Mr. Logsdon was a son of Mrs. Helen L. (Rowe) Logsdon, RD 1, Hyndman, and the late Thomas Logsdon. Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Thomas Logsdon, Jr., RD 1, Hyndman, and James W. Logsdon, Cumberland, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Grace, Hyndman. The body will be at the Zeigler Funeral Home in Hyndman.
