Notes |
- Conrad P Baker was born in Maar, Oberhessen, Darmstadt, Germany. He was a Stone Mason & Coverlet Weaver. He Enlisted as a Private on 11 March 1865 in Co. D, 88th Pa. Infantry; Mustered Out Company D, 88th Infantry Regiment Pa on 30 Jun 1865 at Washington, DC. The 88th Pa was organized 1 Sep 1861 for a period of 3 years. Co. D was recruited at Philadelphia. Conrad was drafted almost at the end of the war and would have seen the last two battles: 31 Mar 1865 at Hatcher's Run, VA and 1 Apr 1865 at Five Forks, VA. He applied for Invalid Pension June 1883. He was wounded in right arm between the shoulder and elbow about mid-way, a flesh wound. "The wound healed up but the shock and excitement caused when receiving the wound - which came from a Rebel Sharp Shooter - no doubt caused palpitation of the heart from which I have never yet recovered and never will. Other disability caused by my exposure is Rheumatism."
He was buried on 20 May 1906 in Hay's Church Cemetery, Brothersvalley Township, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania.
PA Death Certificate - died of old age and prostrate enlargement; widowed; farmer
