  Notes	Esther May Benedict, 83, of Friendsville died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at her residence. Born Feb. 24, 1935, in Friendsville, she was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Theresa (Selby) Murphy. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert S. Murphy. Mrs. Benedict was a registered nurse, having worked for Garrett County Memorial Hospital and then Garrett Medical Group, Friendsville office. She was an active member of Asher Glade Church of the Brethren. She volunteered and ran blood drives in Friendsville for the American Red Cross and also volunteered for Hospice of Garrett County. She is survived by her husband, V. Gene Benedict; two sons, Gene (Karen) Benedict and Rick (Belinda) Benedict, all of Friendsville; two daughters, Melany E. (Irvin) Platter, Grantsville, and Kathy M. (Dan) Swartzentruber, Oakland; one sister, Mary Schroyer, Grantsville; six grandchildren, Amy Leydig, Nathan and Megan Swartzentruber, Laura Humbert, Brian Benedict and Christi Knox; eight great-grandchildren, Jared Warnick, Sophia DeWitt, Kamryn Knox, Carsyn Knox, Lane, Reed and Avery Humbert and Haisley Benedict. Memorial services will be held in Asher Glade Church of the Brethren Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Michael Saturday officiating. Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is in charge of cremation arrangements.
