Notes |
- While at work in the Tyson mine of the Maryland Coal Company, Floyd Garlitz, aged 23, was instantly killoed yesterday by a fall of rock. He was in the act of setting a prop when a "horseback" gave way, crushing him to death. The rock had piled upon top of him and it was sometime before miners could remove it. Garlitz came to Lonaconing about three weeks ago and boarded with Martin J. Eichhorn in Detmold, but for a long time had been employed in the brickyard near Piedmont. His home was in Clairton, Pa. He is survived by his father, Jean (sic:Gene) Garlitz, and a stepmother of Clairton, one sister at Piedmont, and a grandmother, Mrs. Joseph Weinburner (Winebrenner?) of Carlos. The body will remain at Eichhorn's until the arrival of the father for final arrangements. Cumberland Evening Times, Thursday, January 13, 1916
In the 1900 census, Floyd is listed as a nephew in the household of Calvin Lorenzo Fazenbaker and his wife, Lulu. Lulu Susan was a sister to Maggie, Floyd's mother.
