- BARTON — Norma “Elaine” Russell Green, 73, of Barton, passed away on Feb. 6, 2014 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after a battle with thyroid cancer. Born July 23, 1940 in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Bertha Wilt Russell. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Owen Russell; two special nephews, Randy Russell and Larry Russell Jr.; and a son-in-law, Barry Clark. She is survived by two daughters, Terri Green and Robin Clark of Barton. She is also survived by two grandsons, Adam Clark and wife Misty of Lonaconing, Bradley Green and wife Cindy of Midland; one granddaughter, Brooke Clark Eacho and husband Stephen of Lonaconing. She is also survived by three special great-grandsons, Wyatt Clark, Vance Green and Noah Merling; one great-granddaughter, Paige Clark and a new great-granddaughter, Baby Eacho who will arrive in March. She also leaves behind one brother, Larry Russell and wife Linda of Barton; special nieces and nephews, Kenny Russell, Ellie Russell, Susie Hinzy, Melissa Donald, and Stacey Russell Bradley. She always had a special place in her heart for her great-nephew, Anthony Russell-Johnston of Lonaconing. Elaine was a 50+ member of the First Presbyterian Church of Barton and the George’s Creek Senior Citizens, and the Barton High School Alumni, class of 1958 from Valley High School. She also attended Catherman’s Business School and Allegany College. She was a certified Nursing Assistant in the Cumberland area with the elderly. Her hobbies included going to yard sales, scrapbooking, letter-writing, shopping, and collecting pretty things. Some of her favorite past-times were visiting Amish families and spending quality time with her life-long friends. She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a loyal friend to many, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. At her request, her body was donated for scientific study to the State Anatomy Board. Even upon her death, Elaine’s generous spirit continues to live on. We would like to thank WMRMC and her doctors for the care and support they gave her and the family during this difficult time. Dr. Gupta, Dr. Pierce, Dr. Litman, Dr.Hasslinger, and the caring nursing and staff on the Progressive Care Unit and Seven South Oncology. There will be a memorial service held on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at 3 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Barton. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Harry Coleman, Pastor Tom Morgan, and Pastor Sandy Cowan will be officiating.
