- FROSTBURG — Elmer H. Durr, 87, of Frostburg, went home to be with the Lord and is wife of 68 years, Leona (Griffiths) Durr on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his daughter's home in Odenton. He was born on Dec. 7, 1925, in Pocohantas, Pa. and was the son of the late George S. Durr and Viola (Housel) Durr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, George J. Durr. Mr. Durr served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He was a retired school teacher with the Allegany County Board of Education. He was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Brethren where he served as choir director, Sunday school teacher, served on the Board of Deacons and the church board. He is a member of the American Legion and VFW. Elmer is survived by his daughters, Patricia Stanton and husband Ronald, of Odenton, Mary Hare and husband R. Kenneth, of Annapolis and Donna Lemmert and husband Donald, of Crofton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, on Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Frostburg Church of the Brethren on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Riley and the Rev. Mark Durst officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. American Legion Farrady Post 24 will accord military honors at the graveside. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons Donald Lemmert, Christopher White, Mark Shultz, Jonathan Shultz, Zachary Shultz and Drew Nations.
