- OAKLAND — Lester Franklin Durst, 84, of RD 2, Swanton, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, April 28, 1989, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Feb. 22, 1905 in Fairview, he was the son of the late William E. and Cordelia (Blocher) Durst. Mr. Durst was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and the Chessie System as a conductor for 47 years. He was a member of the Railroad United Transportation Union Local 430; the Living Stone Church of the Brethren, Cumberland; and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was a Senior Golden Eagle of Cumberland Aerie 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include his widow, Nadiene (Green) Durst; four sons, Melvin L. Durst, Hinckley, Ohio; William H. Durst, Temple Hills; Ivan Terry Durst, East Sparta, Ohio; and Craig W. Durst, Penn Run, Pa. ; one daughter, Carolyn Jean Cook, Westernport; two sisters, Hattie Murphy, Frostburg; and Lois Howell, Corriganville; one step-sister, Mrs. Clark Nicklow, Oakland; 15 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. John Groth.
