- David Marshall Stark, Jr., 33, of Rockwood, PA, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015, in Cumberland. Born November 22, 1982, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of David Marshall Stark, Sr. and Lisa K. (Davis) Stark. David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Margaret and Jefferson Davis; paternal grandmother, Marc Stark; and uncle, Roger Davis. David enjoyed fishing, shooting guns, snowboarding, hiking, bowling, and biking. Most of all, he loved spending quality time with his family. David was a highly decorated Special Forces veteran. He entered military service in 2004 and was selected to attend the Special Forces Qualification course in 2008. Upon completion he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His military education includes basic Airborne course, Warrior leader course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer course, and Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape course. He served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom where he earned several medals including a Bronze Star, two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals as well as a Combat Infantryman's Badge. Surviving David are his wife of 11 years, Shannon Noel Stark, Rockwood, PA; children, Jaden Stark, Mady Stark, and Carson Stark; parents, David Marshall Stark, Sr. and Lisa K. (Davis) Stark, Frostburg; paternal grandfather, John Stark, Frostburg; sister, Stacey Householder and husband Jason, Sr., Cresaptown; nephews, Jaycob Householder, and Jason Householder, Jr; niece, Chloe; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on December 11th, from 11:30 am to 1:30pm. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on, December 11th at 1:30 pm with Rev. George Harpold officiating. Interment will follow in the MD State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap. Military Honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans.
