- Ulysses Grant "Huck" Phennicie, 67, of 22 Hope Road, Frostburg, Md., died Wednesday, April 19, 1989, of natural causes while hunting on Piney Mountain. Born May 9, 1921, in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Dewey and Irene (Miller) Phennicie. His first wife, Dorothy (Truly) Phennicie, preceded him in death. He was a retired supervisor with the State Highway Administration for 33 years, retiring in 1981; an Army Air Force veteran of World War II; and a member of the National Rifle Association, Salisbury American Legion and the Church of the Brethren. Surviving are his widow, Elvie (Wampler) Rankin Phennicie; two sons, Michael Phennicie, Glen Burnie, Md.; and Thomas Phennicie, Frostburg, Md.; one step-son, Bill Rankin, Eckhart, Md.; one step-daughter, Wanda Scott, Frostburg, Md.; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary where services were conducted Friday at 1 p.m. Interment, Mount Carmel Lutheran Cemetery. The Republic, April 27, 1989
