Born May 30, 1915, in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Joseph and Florence (Hasselrode) Thomas. He was a retired Chief Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy, with 30 years of service. Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, the former Ruth L. Hay; a stepson, James H. Morrison; daughters: Ruth A. Williams and Nadene L. Neel; grandchildren: Aaron Morrison, Laura Morrison, Laila Williams, Alia Williams and Melissa Neel; a sister, Mary Geiger; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Jan. 7 at Borgwardt Funeral Home, Beltsville. Md. A funeral service was held Jan. 8 at the Berwyn Baptist Church, College Park, Md. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. A graveside service was held Jan. 8. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon's Memorial Bible Program. New Republic, January 9, 1997
