- June B. Hay, 87, of Rockwood, passed on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in the Edgewood Nursing Center, Youngstown, Pa. She was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Meyersdale, a daughter of the late William and Annie (Merrill) Bittner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hay, in 1987; three sisters, Annie Forespring, Mildred Burke and Agnes Wagner; and a brother, Richard Bittner. Surviving are a son, George Hay and wife, Carol (Gard), of Irwin; two daughters, Susan Shellhammer and husband, Ron, of Kittanning, and Sally Deist and husband, David, of Somerset; and six grandchildren, Amy O'Connor, Julie Hay, Jessica Baker, Abby Mazer, Molly Atwood and Adam Shellhammer. Mrs. Hay was a member of the Trinity Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Somerset Archaeological Society and the Somerset County Historical Society. She was a member of the Trinity Reform Church in Rockwood and a former secretary at Rockwood High School. Friends will be received Saturday and Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Bender officiating. Interment, Rockwood I.O.O.F.
