- CORRIGANVILLE- Howard Olen Piper, 71, of Cash Valley Road, died Tuesday at Lion's Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1927, at Oldtown, a son of the late Daniel and Agnes (Beeman) Piper.
Mr. Piper is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jane (Lowery) Piper; a son, Richard O., married to Norma (Schilling), Upper Homewood; a granddaughter, Dawn Piper; and a great-granddaughter, both of Upper Homewood; a sister, Agnes Piper, Blackstone, Va.; and a niece, Nancy (Lowery) Hunter, St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Mr. Piper was a crusher operator who had worked for Cumberland Cement and the Martin-Marietta Mandley Sands Plant. Later he worked for a number of years for Sacred Heart Hospital. He served as a military policeman for the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He attended the New Life Tabernacle, Cumberland, and the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Kennells Mills, Pa. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Henry L. Crissinger officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be conferred by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard of Allegany County.
He was buried in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Allegany Co., Maryland.
