- He died on 8 Feb 1904 at the age of 38 in Allegany Co., Maryland. Mr. George Henry Rizer was killed at the clay mine of the Big Savage Fire Brick Company at Allegany mines yesterday. Mr. Rizer went to the mine with a man named Oliver Beal from his home in Mt. Savage, going into the mine with Beal. Mr. Beal, seeing that it was dangerous on account of some rock hanging down, told Rizer to go back a piece while he took the rock down, and thinking Rizer was from under it he proceeded to remove the rock, when Beal looked back he was horrified when he saw Rizer under the pile of rock & clay, which had killed him instantly. A jury was summoned and viewed the remains at Allegany mine. Judge John Chambers was acting coroner for the state, with the following jurymen: Messrs. H. Rizer came to his death from a fall of rock in the mine of the Big Savage Fire Brick Company; said George H. Rizer's death being due to his negligence and that we exonerate the said Big Savage Fire Brick Co. from any blame because of his death. The remains were brought to this place and taken to Messrs. Gehauf & Mauer's undertaking establishment on main street, where the body was prepared for burial, which will take place in Mt. Savage.
