I see that you discovered, puzzled over and solved all in one fell swoop. Yes, that 1900 census is a curiosity. (Ed. Note: referring to the 1900 census where Isabella is listed although she had died the previous year).
When I found John Gardner Murphy's obit it was the first I knew of a son John and a brother James. James must have been in Chicago at the time of John's death. He died there a few weeks later and his body was taken back to the family plot in Cincinnati. The only evidence I have of John and Isabella's son John is a card that re-recorded his birth after the 1884 courthouse fire in Cinci. I've not been able to find him in any other records, so I've presumed he died young, but seeing his name again in my g-grandfather's obit makes me wonder about that....
Beezie Murphy is the reason I got hooked on genealogy. I grew up hearing about her, but never much, so I started searching. She is the closest thing to a "famous" relative I'm likely to have. She was a nanny for some famous Cincinnati citizens, for most of her life in the employ of Jane Herron Anderson and Charles Longworth Anderson. Jane's sister was married to president Taft and the Taft children were often in the care of Aunt Beezie while Taft was governor of the Philippines. This was attested to in a letter to me written by Charles Phelps Taft about 1980, just before he died. The tragedy is that the letter was lost in one of my many moves. My dad's cousin also said that Beezie was nanny for some Longworth children but I've not been able to determine that in anyway. The Anderson's lived on Grandin Road next door to Nicholas and Alice Roosevelt Longworth but their daughter (actually not Nicholas' natural child) was born in 1925. It is possible that Beezie assisted them with her, I suppose. She was 14 when Nicholas was born, possible that she cared for him I guess, but not likely. Anyway, she continues to be of great interest to me but there is not much info available.
